  1. Many have criticized the Israeli Health Ministry’s study which suggests vaccine efficacy is declining (down to 93% at preventing severe illness; and down to 64% at preventing infection) . I believe much of that criticism is misplaced wishful thinking. Americans need to wake up to the reality that the mRNA vaccines are losing some efficacy in the battle against Delta. A Singapore study released today more or less confirms the essence of the Israeli data (drops efficacy to 69%). https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid-19-vaccine-protection-against-infection-delta-variant-15172308

    1. There is now talk of MANDATORY vaccinations at least here in the U.S.

      Finally!!

It will be interesting if the rest of the world starts to consider the same.

      1. Probably not across the board, but certainly in certain settings like hospitals, nursing homes, colleges, etc … Italy has instituted a mandatory vaccine requirement for ALL healthcare workers and anyone working in a hospital (even temporary staff, catering companies, and others).

        1. Not just those “certain” settings you mentioned but I hope that individual employers will mandate proof of vaccinations for current and new employees. For example, simple office settings.

  2. Wasn’t kidding when I said the Rt in Holland was 2.8. Cases there have gone up 500% in 1 week. Test positivity is now above 6%. It was ~2.3% 10 days ago.

Meanwhile, UK cases increased by close to 4k in 1 day. Highest number since January (over 32,000). Hospitalizations are rising at almost the same rate, with ICU usage not far behind.

Health minister in the UK is beginning to backtrack on “commitment to lift Covid restrictions” on July 19th. Still wants to do so, but is inserting multiple caveats today.

Really glad my ex-wife got to visit with our daughter in London this past weekend. If anyone thinks, though, that quarantining there is optional or not checked by the authorities, they’re totally wrong. My ex-wife got two phone calls from the authorities during her 3-day visit, imploring her to quarantine and telling her she must get tested. Failure to do so would have resulted in large fines (340 pounds per day – ~$470).

  3. The Topsfield Fair returns this fall. No restrictions, no masks required.

    October 1 – 11

    1. Glad to see that coming back. 🙂 It’s outside for the most part – they won’t need to require anything. And it’s always an option for people to wear them anyway.
