Minor Events

10:08PM

Warm air returning first above us and then at the surface will cause a burst of snow and snow pellets in some locations late this evening. Accumulations should be under 1 inch in just about all locations as this is a fast-moving area and not very wide.

Once a second area of precipitation arrives overnight, temperatures will be warm enough aloft for rain, and marginal at the surface near 495 so that some icing may take place. Elsewhere, temperatures should be rising above freezing so icing will not be a problem. By dawn, continued warming should take care of any icing that does occur, and expect a mild Tuesday with rain showers around.

A strong cold front will cross the region at night, setting us up for a windy and colder Wednesday but with dry weather.

Chilly/dry weather will last into Thursday, and a weak system moving in at night will cause some snow showers. This will get out of here by early Friday with another fair but chilly day.

There are some questions for the weekend, and some potential changes to the thinking on the last post. I’m not quite sure how things are going to shake out yet, but some reliable guidance has shifted the track of Saturday’s disturbance further south, possibly increasing the chance that it will be snow. Sunday’s warm-up may also be delayed behind this system if a north or northeast wind sets up, as is shown on the same rather reliable guidance. But with this still many days away, I’ll just put out a low confidence outlook leaning in the direction of this guidance for now.

  1. There looks to be holes in the precipitation with the first coming through as snow now. The next will be that mix for the interior rain for the coast.

        1. Thanks TK ! I see Logan has made it to 33F, so officially, only yesterday ended up subfreezing for a high temp. Unofficially, it was a very cold long weekend.

  2. I just posted to Barry on WBZ that this reminds me of a slow-motion snow squall. You get the low vis, moderate snow, just without the wind, technically making it not a squall anyway, but you know what I mean… Relatively short duration but a little longer than a typical snow shower/squall and with much the same result on the ground. I expect the snow to be mostly done by midnight.

  3. It is completely snow covered (streets included) in Dorchester…wasn’t this good during the pre-Halloween storm. 🙂

  4. You could tell where that warm front is and with a storm track to the west we all know the mild air will win out.

  5. What a treat, everything’s snow covered in Brighton! Will I have to think about clearing snow off the car in the morning, or will rain be doing it for me?

      1. Hopefully, come February we can get snow that stays on the ground for at least a couple days or so…probably asking too much during this crazy winter. 😉

  6. TK, I would like to make one final suggestion regarding this blog.

It might be best if any potential new posters only come from the WBZ blog who imply directly or indirectly that they wish to join us. As for Benson, I don’t recall seeing the name over on WBZ and I really never got the impression that he wanted to discuss weather anyway.

Keep up the good work here as always! 🙂

    1. The blog was initially set up to include anyone who wanted to join. It just so happened that 99% of the people that post were on WBZ. There are actually several dozen readers of this blog that are friends and family of mine. They seldom, if ever, post here.

Anybody can read, and post, though of course I must approve a first post. There will be continued effort to keep the blog free of trouble makers. As far as Benson (or anyone) goes, I know I stated previously that I would not allow personal attacks. And I know some people would and others wouldn’t view his “request” on the blog the other day as a personal attack, I did use it as an opportunity to bring attention to the type of conduct I want to see here. I felt that reply in itself was not enough to remove him, but make no mistake that if I determine someone’s posts are not beneficial to the blog, and they continue despite warning, then that person will be blocked from posting here. This is not a threat to Benson or anyone, but a general statement. Benson has just become the example, since his posts were the subject of controversy.

  7. WBZ 11 pm: BB says Sat storm will get nudged OTS. (And by the way, that’s Barry Burbank not Bill Belichik. 🙂 )

    1. And of course, PB is still bullish for snow on Saturday. Who knows, he might end up being right and Barry did say that his forecast for Saturday is “low confidence”. I missed Harvey’s 11:00 pm forecast.

    2. Barry must have taken a look at the oz GFS…looks to shunt the storm out to sea. Will be interested to see if the 0z Euro is consistent with its prior run and keeps the Sat. snow potential.

  8. Over 2 inches of snow on the ground in Coventry, CT and still snowing. The 1″/hour intensity of the snow over the past few hours kind of surprised me. We’ll take it!

  9. TK, it would be nice if those friends and family of yours would post over here every now and then, if nothing else just to say “hello” or whatever. 🙂

Have a good night and enjoy the little snow we get!

    1. Once in a while you’ll see one of them sneak in and post something, but you have to not blink or you’ll miss it. They are content to read for the forecast. Many of them don’t venture into the comment section. 🙂

  10. It has just stopped snowing, there is a few wet raindrops mixed every once in a while, I am surprised to say we have nearly an inch of wet snow, temp has dropped to 32.7 degrees, there’s a mist almost a drizzle in the air

  11. No snow left here on the ground in Marshfield, at least the eastern part of town.

If I am reading Logan’s ob correctly, I think Logan reported an inch of snow.

There is a big surge of warmth coming up the Mississippi Valley this morning….50s pretty far north, accompanied by showers and thunderstorms

  12. 33.6 and light drizzle in JP. Just heard a plow go by and things on the driveway are still covered.

I still expect Thursday night to give another round of snow and if you look at 06z GFS much more bullish then the 00z for Saturday. I will peek at the euro when I get into office. NWS also talking about both systems.
