Sunday October 3 2021 Forecast (7:58AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 3-7)

Coastal areas will experience rough surf and high rip current risk today as Hurricane Sam passes by far offshore, and then conditions will subside. Today we’ll be fighting off a rain-producing system with a high pressure shield that is weakening, but we’ll get through the daylight hours across the region without the rain – just varying amounts of cloud cover. We’re starting out relatively mild today, or at least not as cool as yesterday morning was, and it will start to warm nicely across the region even further, only to be thwarted in southern NH and northeastern MA by a frontal boundary advancing southward through the region during the day. There may be some ocean-moisture-created low clouds that come in behind this front, so any thin enough areas to allow sunshine through higher clouds later in the day may be of no benefit in some locations due to the lower cloud cover. Eventually, that frontal boundary will continue and complete its southward journey by tonight as low pressure approaches from the west, finally spreading rain across most of the region, first to the north, then southern areas get involved, and a fairly widespread rain shield will be over the region for early Monday, before it thins out and breaks up somewhat, only to have another return by Monday evening into Monday night. As we get to Tuesday, a renewed push of high pressure from eastern Canada will begin a gradual drying process from north to south, and we’ll see the rain end first, and eventually a decrease in cloud cover, but that may take into mid week to fully occur. High pressure should be more atop the region by Thursday which at this time looks like a fair and mild day.

TODAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 58-65 southern NH and northeastern MA, 65-72 elsewhere. Wind variable up to 10 MPH early, becoming E 5-15 MPH southeastern NH and northeastern MA, SW 5-15 MPH elsewhere.

TONIGHT: Becoming cloudy. Occasional rain north of I-90 by mid evening with patchy rain to the south. More widespread rain likely overnight. Areas of fog overnight. Lows 48-55. Wind variable to E up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Cloudy. Areas of fog. Steadiest rain in the morning. Occasional rain in the afternoon. Highs 56-63. Wind variable to E 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain likely. Areas of fog. Lows 48-55. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Areas of fog in the morning. Rain diminishing north to south. Highs 56-63. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 50-57. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 45-52. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 8-12)

High pressure is expected to sit over and just north of the region with fair and seasonable weather. We need to watch low pressure sitting to the south of the region for possible northward push, or at least some of its moisture being drawn northward into the region.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 13-17)

Low pressure from the south and west may bring wetter weather for the first part of this period before a drier westerly air flow finally takes over. This continues to be a low to moderate confidence forecast.

    1. Thank you, JJ. I often forget that but has a special connection in that area so remember being concerned

  1. Don´t know my geography too well in this part of the world, but this cyclone is well to the north and west of areas where there has certainly been documented tropical cyclones.

  2. Thanks, TK.

Well, tonight’s the big game! Wait a minute – who do I root for, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers w/Tom Brady or our home team, the Patriots? I think I’ll watch something else. Hope I don’t get thrown off the blog for saying this!

    1. Hahahaha. It is a difficult decision. I have been cooking up a storm. I can’t bring myself to root for either team against the other so am rooting for both

      1. Frankly, I am not a big football fan – unless the Patriots are in a Superbowl. I know it was a money thing but they should have kept Brady in the Patriots. But I think he wanted to leave. In any case, I will probably be watching golf with my husband this afternoon. We used to be big tennis fans but since my husband used to play golf back in the day he likes watching it now. It’s relaxing. I used to love playing Pitch and Putt and Miniature Golf a long time ago. Anyway, enjoy the day. Looks like a dismal wk. weather-wise. Actually looking forward to snow!

    2. We’re watching the game for the first time in a few years,

We both want Brady to win. I wan him to annihilate the Patriots.
The Patriots ran him out of town as far as I am concerned and the pats deserve to lose this one.

Call me a traitor if you must.

      1. You are not a traitor. I don’t know the whole story, but Brady is a star and they didn’t give him what he wanted. All confusing. But then, this world is a mess right now anyway!

      2. Not a traitor at all. I have an attachment to the Pats that I suspect everyone understands. Were a Mac not Pats QB, I’d be Brady all the way.

      3. BB ran him out & Kraft did not have the guts too stop it . Brady is going to destroy them tonight . Kraft could have nipped this in the bud preventing Brady from walking bud he did not but he’s kicking himself in the ass now .

  3. Dry air is winning the battle so far as it was expected to do. Rain that looks impressive on radar to the W & NW is but splotches of barely visible echoes by the time it gets into eastern areas. This will continue for several more hours.

  4. CPC & our friend WxW indicate the warm trend heading into mid month for a good part of the eastern US and I currently agree. Cold Alaska & chilly West, warm central & eastern US. Also the trend is going to be for a dry spell to set up. CPC has revised its monthly outlook for October to put New England in the greatest percentage chance for below normal precipitation of anywhere in the Lower 48. I also agree with this. Wet pattern going BYEBYES.

  5. Well now, that was an exciting game. Fun to watch. I often wonder why I don’t watch baseball any more.

      1. I can see why.

My theory always was with Red Sox (after maybe early 60s) that If they started the season well, they tended to fall apart. And vice versa.

I haven’t followed for years so that may no longer be the case…..or is it 😉

        1. Since 2003, they´ve had many more strong finishes than falling apart. 2011 was a collapse right up there in Red Sox fashion.

They´ve certainly broken the curse. Now Tuesday, is the chance to even out the 1 game playoff, 1978 loss vs the Evil Empire.

          1. That is great news. I was careful to say I didn’t know if that still held true. Did the strong finishes start strong too? That would be encouraging.

They were surely the come back kids for a while

  6. Hurricane Sam, what a system.

After really weakening late yesterday and last night, has definitely intensified yet again. Looks pretty darn good on satellite.

  7. Fun afternoon. As my Dad would have said, “it is as it should be … Yankees versus Red Sox.” One game playoff, similar to 1978, though that was technically Game 163.

  8. Clearly incorrect timing on the rainfall forecast. 🙂
    Well, doesn’t matter. It’s game time…

  9. Ok now all we need is the Pats to get a TD with a 2 pt conversion + a field goal, and the Bucs to get a TD with a 2 pt conversion, and it’ll end 25-24, my prediction from a few days ago.

    1. Yes sir.

I am as impressed with Mac Jones as I knew I would be. The announcers? I’d like to knock their heads together.

  10. 1st, I was saying that this was going to be either a blow out in the Buc’s favor or it came down to a field goal.
    2. Mac Jones continues to impress me.
    3. Pass defense has been really good. Needs to be consistant.
    4. Run defense, was suppose to be something they worked on. yet to see it besides for Judon.
    5. The weapons did better today but please do better with ball security.
And the unit that I hate the most, the offensive line which has been crap. It was suppose to be a strength of the Patriots. I laugh at that.

    1. oh also I hope Josh and Bill now trusts Mac Jones to throw the ball in the spread offense and call plays at the line like he did tonight.
