  1. Thanks TK. Looking cool for tonight and tomorrow, a little cool for Sox game on Weds and very OK for Halloween.

  2. Was there an earthquake this morning (small)? My daughter said she felt something shake the house shortly after 5:30.

  3. Major Atlantic storm is raging over Southern England and the low countries. I’ve lived through these events for many years, and the wind is truly ferocious. There’s usually not a lot of moisture involved. In fact, rain is almost never the main story. It’s invariably the wind. Sustained wind speeds of 55-60mph with gusts up to 80mph were measured along the Dutch coast this morning. Note, these are usually long-duration events.

    1. It amazes me how much just looking at snow brings all sorts of great feelings. I must have been Mrs Jack Frost in a previous life.

  4. I’m not starting a text argument, just simply stating last nights tv ratings, all I will say is more people watched the regular season NFL game over the World Series on a national basis 3 to 1, absolutely crazy stuff!! Anyways beautiful day once again thanks tk 🙂

    1. Doesn’t surprise me. If the sox weren’t in the world series, i would have been watching the nfl game too.

        1. Not so crazy I think because the main interest is only for two cities. Charlie, I thought of you the other day. Husband works with a dr from panama. He raises cattle in panama but has lived/worked/studied in various parts of the US for several years. He was at St. Louis last week for a conference and said the sidewalks literally roll up at dark. Even when the series was playing, no one was out and about. He said of all the other cities he’s lived in or around Boston life and all it has to offer “kicks you know what” – sorry his quote not mine 🙂

          1. Great!!! We’re like St. Louis, have u been to St. Louis? It’s not a city i want to be compared too, ask my wife, she’s from there 🙂

            1. We’re nothing like St. Louis Charlie. I think what Vicki said was he said Boston is much better as far as nightlife and activity after dark.

            2. We are absolutely nothing like St Louis, Charlie. Ace is absolutely correct in his interpretation of what I said.

          2. The ratings tell us that someone in Pennsyvania was watching an nfl reg season game over the World Series Championship, lol that doesn’t shock you, these ratings would have been vice versus just 25yrs ago.

    1. Mixed signals. I hear rain during trick or treat and then I hear it’s comig much later in the evening.

    2. There’s going to be a “leading edge” somewhere nearby. Too early for solid timing. But I can say the better chance of rain appears to be the further west and north you go. Boston may luck out through the main trick or treat hours.

      1. I was hoping it would rain a little bit later in the evening, to deter the troublemakers who come out after trick or treating hours 😉

        1. what you don’t want to get flocked 😛 … PS thats when you wake up and find 11 plastic flamingo’s in your front yard.

        1. Working on that… I have a feeling we may see one batch go NW of us in the early evening then a break before a main area arrives later at night.

          1. Thanks, TK. I don’t think we have had a rainy halloween in a long while. It seems to me that I remember very few in my past. One I can think of when my kids were small. I’m probably blocking memories.

  5. Looks like the the above normal temperature regime with a ridge in the east is coming back in the latest CPC 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks.

  6. Back in my day (1960s/early 70s) Halloween Trick-or-Treat was between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Is that pretty much the same timeframe these days?

    1. We turn lights off around 8:00 or so depending on age of kids. It seems the “more rambunctious” groups are out later than that. We used to start at 5:30. Took a while to change into our second costume and revisit. Just kidding…..maybe 🙂

    1. We always had to buy larger costumes to fit a jacket under. I was a tom boy through and through. My favorite costume was a cowboy outfit compete with a fringe jacket. I mostly liked it cause girls couldn’t wear pants back then and I could for my costume. And also cause i didnt need an extra jacket 🙂

Do you have lots of trick or treaters JJ?

        1. I’ll try. Problem is we are doubling up hours this week to get everything done before we take time away from clients. So very long days….

      1. Hi Vicki… I don’t where I am but my mom has a good amount. Its no where near the number of trick or treaters when I was young.
Two years ago they cancelled Halloween after the Autumn Noreaster and Halloween was celebrated the second Saturday of November and there was only two trick or treaters that came.

        1. We used to have groups in our neighborhood when my kids were little. Now if we have a dozen its a lot. Daughter in Uxbridge has 50 or so. But you are so right that its not like when you were young and even more not like when I was young. You could not close the door before a new group came.

  7. We would trick or treat until as late as 9PM when I was little.

I remember a big variation in weather through the years. Sometimes we froze. Other times it was balmy. Very few wet ones. Only one soaker in all the years I can recall. Some years the leaves were down, others there were barely any on the ground.

I have never noticed a steady trend one way or another, just lots of variability around here NW of Boston. Not sure about other places.

    1. Agree. We had a few in the 80s where it was so cold my kids wanted to come home. But it certainly varied. Warmer certainly this decade. But rain not so much. Yay

  8. I sure hope the rain will hold off to later at night. It defently would wreck the night for all the young ones. I look forward to this night. I always stay home and give out the candy and set all our anamatronics off. My wife goes around the neighborhood with him.

  9. Never had a problem with dogs with this problem. Little dog this morning my wife pulled two ticks. Big dog tonight when it came in she pulled two fleas, does this mean now my house has fleas, I’m freaking.

    1. John we have in the past had flea and tick infestations. Its the time of year. They are looking for warmth. Do u use a flea tick treatment? Last time we found a couple of fleas, we applied. It kills fleas and they don’t reproduce. We didnt have infestation that time. Check dog beds. Check any area they usually sleep. Watch dog for Lyme symptoms and check yourselves regularly for ticks. Although that should be done always when they are active

      1. Btw I’m itching like crazy here :). Don’t freak. If u r only finding a couple of each you shouldn’t have problem. When we had the problem YEARS ago – two different times and two different dogs – they had a lot of ticks and fleas respectively. Back then no one talked about it so we didnt no till too late

        1. I am freaking as I have a houseful coming Thursday night and my mom is coming and staying till Saturday. So it is possible that the house won’t become infested. I’m wondering if I should crate her tonight but she sleeps with me everynight. When I say it’s bedtime she goes right up with me.

          1. We have had a couple of ticks this summer. No infestation. Check dogs every few minutes. If she sleeps on ur bed, check it. If no ticks I’d think no problem. Just treat now if u can. I’m assuming when u use frontline dog doesn’t sleep with you anyway?? I have this thing about chemicals like that so might be just me

  10. Ya know. You’d think these guys would know not to swing at first pitch by now…especially being from Boston sox

    1. It was fun tracking. I still have vivid memories of being awake in the middle of the night two years ago listening to tree branches crack and the flash and spark of the arc overs. Mother nature’s power is absolutely amazing.

      1. Vicki leaving my home that morning two years ago today it had the feel of snow. The forecast for where I am in CT that
day said rain snow mix to start changing to snow late in the afternoon. My gut was telling me after leaving my home
that forecast will not pan out and it didn’t as it was snow from start to finish and ending up with a foot of heavy wet
        snow.

        1. I remember sitting in the parking lot of the nursery in Hopkinton waiting for my daughter and kids. They were having a production of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I was posting here and some were seeing snow. It was raining in Hopkinton with just a touch of snow mixed. When we left, it was looking like it would change over completely. I’ll have to go back and read this blog. That’s the fun part of having the archives here!!

  11. my brothers, cousins and I use to go to his place and tricker treat there from like 630- 8 then scare the living crap of people who dared to walk through the woods to get to the other side.
But recently have not gone over there for halloween do to school activities and stuff, though some of my freinds now and I when i get back , we go into the woods down the street and scaring the crap out of the kids that usually causes trouble 😉

  12. TK what is going on at NECN and BZ? Just fond out this morning that Matt Noyes is now on mornings starting this week, Danielle has left and moved to BZ for weekend mornings…What is happening to Barry and Joe? Who will stay on for weekend nights?

Not happy if Nellie is Matt’s replacement at night.

  13. From what I saw on Twitter from Eric Fisher and Matt Noyes, Danielle will be doing weekend mornings and Nellie will be doing nights…Barry will still be doing weekends and it looks like Joe Joyce is the odd man out…Like Matt much better at night. Not sure if this is temporary or not?

  14. Sigh…..back to reality. What a fabulous vacation we just had and the weather was picture perfect for us the entire time. Got some beautiful pictures of the castle in Magic Kingdom with a gorgeous clear blue sky. Couldn’t have asked for better. But I have to admit, the chill this morning also felt good.

      1. Thank you! Vicki…I just sent you a picture to your e-mail. Now we will have to connect on facebook so you can view the rest of my photos!

  15. Hello everybody, a little cool but still nice, I just sold my other last 2 redsox tix game 6 for $3,300, go Patriots go sox 🙂
