May, Yay!

5:36PM

May has come ’round. And it’s the month when the landscape shifts from looking like Spring to looking like Summer, as trees that have not already started to leaf-out will do so. Flowers are already out in most areas, including tree blossoms which have been coloring the landscape for a week or so now, earlier to the south and more recently to the north. Of course along with all the blooming comes allergy problems for some people, and that will be the case for much of the month and into June with especially tree pollens.

As for the weather itself, a broad trough of low pressure will take 3 days to pass through England (Friday through Sunday), so clouds will be plentiful and there will be a daily risk of rain showers.

Next week looks dry, starting cool then moderating a little, with a broad westerly flow dominating the weather in southeastern New England.

  1. Thanks TK! That late afternoon sunshine was all it took to kick the temperature up to 71 for a high in Wrentham.

  2. Yes the sun came out shortly when I got home and you sure could feel it. Now if we can get warmer and stay that way till fall all will be good .

  3. The CPC outlook continues to show above normal temps through mid-month for the eastern U.S. πŸ™‚

The Great Lakes is still ice covered in spots. It will be interesting if it affects our summer temps in NE. AccuWeather says the hottest temps will occur during August with near normal for June/July.

TK – The TV mets have cool rains for next Thursday. I hope “your” forecast verifies instead. πŸ™‚

  4. Looks like a few showers, maybe even a thunderstorm popping near Providence, RI ….with a broken line extending northeast to just south of Boston.

  5. The Bruins are playing a very bad passing game along with a lack of confidence and the current score shows it.

  6. Cup year they lost both at home to start the series. Home ice is not a big deal in the NHL like it is in basketball or football. Get a goal back in the first 5 minutes and we have a game.

  7. And of course while this is going on, the Red Sox just made a bonehead defensive play on an infield pop-up.

  8. Sox straying pitching is not good. They won’t make playoffs this year. To be honest they had grit last year that win the series. Talent wise they are good not great.

  9. Krug could have a good and long hockey career. He has a ways to go to become a mature NHL player, but he is a young-gun threat.

  10. Nice thunder storm just finishing up passing through Clinton. Surprising amount of lighting.

    1. It was pretty impressive. Now they are starting to feel the marine air to the east. It’s very foggy here in Woburn and it’s gotten damp and cool.

    2. I’m jealous. Well talk about the power of wishful thinking. I thought I could hear it to our north so headed for the window. Nothing πŸ™

  11. of course good weather decides to show up finally when i can’t enjoy it god darnit finals… also just seen a few flashes of lightning

  12. Good morning!! Happy Friday!! Big dinner at skip jacks at Patriot place tonight. Happy weekend everybody πŸ™‚

  13. Some showers SE MA this morning. Updated forecast to reflect this.

    New blog this afternoon!

  14. Praying praying praying that those scattered showers stay away from Mayfair in Harvard square on Sunday! GO AWAY RAIN!!!

    1. I know hairdryers have worked for snow but I am not so sure what will push the rain away.

  15. Well at least it’s NOT in the 40s with the wind coming in off of that ocean.
    (for now anyway)

Not sure the Bruins are going to beat Montreal. They just seem to have our numbe
for whatever reason. They did get all that many shots off, but when they did, they
    nailed them.

    1. I heard the bruins lost, sorry to hear about that. Montreal is the king of hockey, along with canada, I say canada beats em in 6, but what the hek do I know, like I’ve said I’ve been to Montreal a few different times, and they or everyone there r crazy crazy about hockey, I’ve been inside that arena they play in, and wow!!! It holds around 25,000 people. That place is a huge hockey arena. Good day everyone πŸ™‚ hoping the bruins can take game 2 for ya

      1. So true! I only wore a jacket bc it was raining on my way to work. Other than that, i wouldnt have one πŸ™‚

  16. Thanks TK! This may be the first Friday that I don’t need a heavy coat and gloves at my son’s flag football game. Go Vikings!

      1. They are undefeated after 3 games so I am hoping they continue with their win streak. It is a great group of 7-9 year olds.

  17. A question for the computer folks on here. I never had popups on WHW before but notice that my popup blocker is now very active (31 just in the few minutes I am typing). How do popups get attached to websites?

            1. Spybot is “usually” good at removing that
kind of junk. I use it at home and at work.

I tried to get you the correct site as there are many bogus sites that will try to charge you for it and/or download other non wanted programs. The correct site has no charge and WON’T download unwanted programs.

              1. Thanks, OS. Norton deep scan picked up something and I have downloaded spybot (free version) from the site you gave me and am running now. These things drive me nuts

                1. another good one is Malwarebytes

                  https://www.malwarebytes.org/

With any of these scanning software programs you have to be careful that they don’t recognize legitmate files as something to be deleted. If at all possible set the scan to detect any bogus files but set you can manually pick and choose which ones to delete

                2. Thanks Keith. Spybot came up with a ton of things. I can’t really tell what is what so deselected some but left most selected. One was OptimizerPro and after a search it appears to be malware. I’m in panic mode waiting to see if the computer works after this πŸ™‚

  18. Montreal may be the “king of hockey” in the sense that it’s basically a religion there. But as for the team? And the country for that matter regarding the NHL…

Well, the last time Montreal won a Stanley cup was 21 years ago (1993). In fact, that’s the last time a team from Canada won the cup.

I guess the kings of hockey are having trouble climbing back onto the throne. πŸ˜‰

    1. They won’t win it this year either. Even if they manage to beat out the B’s in this series, this is their Stanley cup finals. All they care about is beating out the Bruins. They will get steamrolled after putting all their energy into this series.

    2. Part of the reason is that in the past, Montreal had EXCLUSIVE rights
to ALL players from Quebec. Imagine that! Now they don’t and look what
      has happened.

On the other hand, they have figured out how to survive like all the other teams do. They are clearly on the way up. Is this the year? Probably not, although anything can happen in the play offs. Most likely they are a couple of years away. Either way, you’ll be hearing from this team in the future. You can count on it.

Btw, I’d take Subban any day of the week!!

      1. Subban is a great player. Why do you think Bruins fans “hate” him so much? We’d love the guy if he was on our team. Imagine Marchand in a Canadiens jersey. We’d loathe the guy (as a player). πŸ˜‰

        1. I certainly don’t hate him! I think he is great!
          Wish we had him.

Why so much hatred? I certainly HOPE that it is because he is the enemy and he is so good. I sure hope it isn’t something else like….

There were some nasty racist facebook and twitter posts directed at Subban last night and today. Classless morons!!!!!

            1. I saw that. Ridiculous.

When I “hate” a sports player, it’s only in the sports sense. Of course I don’t root for the Canadiens. They are the enemy – as a team. They’re all nice guys off the ice and have families etc. .. They just play hockey for our rival. Any one or more of these guys could be Bruins next season…

              1. I am not a hockey fan. Perhaps I should be because the Bruins never fail to impress. Their immediate reaction to this is a perfect example.

  19. Only two Canadian teams have played in Stanley Cup Finals since Montreal won in 93 and both lost. Calgary in 2004 and Edmonton in 2006.

  20. 63.7 framingham…63.1 Humarock. Spectacular night. We have a fire and are enjoying the deck. I hope everyone is out and about and having fun

        1. Hahahaha we are having dinner on the deck by the fire …. I think you were peaking and thank you. Enjoy your evening also, John

  21. Do you have the cottage booked for the summer. You should really retire down here since you love it so much .

    1. Im afraid the summer won’t happen. It will be hard for all of us. Our plan is to retire there but if it doesn’t work we would be able to spend several months in the off season which we also love

  22. Just got in and it’s such an awesome mild night tonight. I love it. Almost time for shorts. Go bruins!!! 12:30 game tomorrow for a must win.

  23. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Rain has fallen at some point on 46% of Kentucky Derby days. How many times has the Derby been postponed due to rain?
    A. None
    B. Once
    C. Twice
    D. Three

    Answer later today.

  24. Would not be surprised some interior locations see a non severe thunderstorm at some point this weekend with just enough instablitly for a quick gust of wind and even some small hail as the main threats.

  25. Good morning!! Baseball, then Patriot Place for lunch, then relaxing before we have dinner, maybe a good movie tonight with the kids. Temp is 48.4, looking like upper 60’s for highs today. Having the traditional draft party next sat, should have quite a few people including some ex patriots, ex nfl players here for it πŸ™‚ good day all

    1. My interests won’t be anywhere near the NFL until sometime in August. πŸ™‚

The off season stuff doesn’t matter too much to me. πŸ˜€ But I hope you enjoy it!

  26. Just updated. But only an edit. Nothing new to add, except Friday. πŸ˜›

Heading out for an annual city-wide yard sale before coming back for Bruins & Kentucky Derby stuff. πŸ™‚

  27. this is the worst possible time for my allergies to kick in and i have no more allergy medicine and have to go into boston in order to renew it. πŸ™
