The Week Ahead

11:00PM

Low pressure will spin just off the coast for the first few days of the week, keeping it cool and at times unsettled in eastern New England. By Thursday, this low should move far enough east and a ridge of high pressure should move overhead to bring brighter, warmer weather for a day, before a new high pressure area to the north sends a cold front southward across the area with a late-week cooling trend.

  1. On Monday May 9 -Tuesday May 10, 1977 record snowfall fell in parts of SNE including Boston which received 0.5″ with over a foot in the W & NW suburbs.

I attended a private high school in Boston at the time and still got a snow day. The school closed because some students and staff lived in those W and NW suburbs. I of course lived in Boston and still do. Imagine…a half inch of snow and STILL getting a snow day! I still “lol”about it to this day. 🙂

Anyone else have stories to share about that May 1977 snowfall?

    1. We had about 5 or 6 inches in Woburn, very wet snow, TONS of tree limbs down. City had a special collection the following week to pick up all the debris. City plows were in storage for the season and the snow fell heavy enough so that the roads were impassable for a few hours in the morning on the 10th. Remarkable event. Certainly in the top 10 of my lifetime.

  2. Hey Philip I was talking about that snow event on the BZ blog and a few people responded with stories. I mentioned that Boston got 0.5 inches from that event but I was not sure but if you said they got it I know its correct since when it comes to stats for the weather you are the best. I was not alive for that event so I don’t have a personal story.

  3. The next blog update will be adjusted to show a sunnier Saturday. Not sure about Sunday yet. 🙂
