The Warmer Side Of Spring

7:34PM

SUMMARY…
Your long awaited above normal temperature pattern has arrived and will last through the weekend. As is always the case in the Spring, there will be modifications based on locations. A weak cold front settled through southeastern New England Tuesday and a second weak boundary will try to sneak down the coast through Wednesday. At the same time a narrow area of high pressure will sink southward over the region and push a disturbance south of the region overnight and early Wednesday. Cloudiness with this disturbance will be over the region tonight but exit Wednesday morning, and the day turns out quite bright. Coolest air will be along the coast with some onshore wind while it is somewhat milder inland. By Thursday expect high pressure to be centered to the south with warmer air for most areas, the exception being the South Coast and Cape Cod. On Friday another area of high pressure will nose down over the water to the east, and allow for an onshore wind and somewhat cooler air. This cooler influence may linger into early Saturday before the wind flow turns more to the southwest and transports Summery air into the region later in the weekend and very early next week, until low pressure and a front approaches by Tuesday with the threat of showers/thunderstorms.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…

  1. Thank you TK. Looks like my optimistic prediction for this week’s upcoming weather (i.e. average to above average temps) will hold. I still feel this pattern will continue into next week. I’m not buying the below normal temps that the GFS is offering for next week. We’ll see. Thank you again.

    1. I had above normal temps as well, but for me it was more than being optimistic. It was a tough analysis to come up with the details. What has worked out is the cooler trend near the coast which was expected today and indeed took place. This will be the case again Wednesday. What remains a little tougher to place is ocean influence as we go through the week. We probably see less of it Thursday but more of it Friday again. Then we have to wait to see when the larger-scale flow goes more southwest again sometime over the weekend. After that, the question becomes how warm does it get and where does a boundary set up? That may make the difference between 80s and 50s for Boston for late Sunday and Monday.

        1. Most likely yes, unless it was one of those boundaries that had enough push to get through the whole area. Not entirely impossible. At this early stage I’d lean away from that at first. If you notice, my above forecast does not mention a big cool down from the northeast at this time… 😉

      1. Agreed ….. Never fully want to let your guard down against colder, dense air from eastern Canada that has a cold ocean to help let it seep further southward than weather models may suggest ….. especially in May (as opposed to say August).

I do hope that in this instance, the warmer air continues to win out. 🙂 🙂

        1. Be prepared for Ocean Winds along the coast.
          Inevitable.

Eric had it very cool coastal areas for Friday.

We need to warm up that ocean and the sooner the better.

Warmer days and high sun angle will aide in that regard.

    1. At 8Am boston’s wind was from 020 degrees, off the water.
At 9AM Blue Hill wind is from 050 Degrees about as NE as you can get
(Ok 45 degrees would be on the button).

    2. Saw that this am, Tom. They said even if it does not, it will create dangerous rip tides along the southern atlantic coast.

And did you see that there were three pilot whales off of Humarock this am?

  2. Wind is light North at the Airpot, Light NW at Beverely and NE at 10 in Plymouth.
Won’t take much to turn them Easterly soon.

  3. Up to 66.7 here already. I suspect that rise will be tempered soon by an East Wind, but
it won’t be as cool here as it will be at the Airport. 😀

  4. WOW! Logan is up to 65 at 9AM with Wind at 030 Degrees, but only at 7MPH so
perhaps that why the temperature is still rising.

    1. Ocean temperatures a tad over 47. Getting there and my sense is believe it or not, they are close to average for this date.

  5. From NWS this morning:

HIGHS SHOULD CLIMB WELL INTO THE 70S TO NEAR 80. THE
EXCEPTION WILL BE ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST…WHERE SEA BREEZES
WILL HOLD TEMPS MAINLY IN THE 60S.

  6. 10AM Logan has dropped to 64 with NE wind up to 9 mph.

Was up to 70 here, now dropped a tad to 69.4

  7. THIS JUST IN: For the first time since scientists began tracking carbon dioxide in the global atmosphere, the monthly global average concentration of this greenhouse gas surpassed 400 parts per million in March 2015 (see the chart.) What does this “significant milestone” mean in the most basic terms? See what Pieter Tans, lead scientist for NOAA’s Global Greenhouse Gas Reference Network, has to say: http://go.usa.gov/3KdcR via NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.

Makes me sick to read. Makes me sick period. What happened to the only ball being deflated was the one the colts had? What happened to the fact that the Colts “knew” about deflation (coincidentally in a game against them in their stadium where they handle the balls) in November? Why were they the only team that seemed to be aware of this? If they notified officials, as they claimed to have done, why would it take months for the officials to check the balls? What about the other players who say they deflate the balls intentionally?

It smells like a Brady witch hunt …..jealousy will do that to people.

          1. Total and Complete BULLCRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

            the NFL SUCKS big TIME!!!!!!!!!!1

            1. its because the commisioner is trying to improve is tarnished poor rankings. even if the patriots are not guilty he would punish them.

        1. Ok, here’s my take …… the Pats got caught. Many do it, but unfortunately, they got caught.

The public reaction is going to make the league come down hard.

Don’t be surprise if they lose next year’s draft over this and Brady is suspended.

The NFL thinks Brady is not telling the truth to the investigators.

The whole issue, as it is on its own legs, is pretty silly. But, even in a silly issue, you need to tell the truth and the league or the investigation doesn’t think he did and that’s going to cause this penalty to be huge.

I’m of the opinion, that had they just came out and said, ok, you got us, it would have been a slap on the wrist penalty and it would be forgotten. But, I don’t know how many times in all instances people shun a less harsh penalty and easier resolution for a tougher penalty and a longer shelf life on an issue by denying wrong doing. I just don’t get it.

          1. Totally agree with that assessment Tom. It wouldn’t surprise me if at the beginning of next season Brady serves some kind of suspension and hefty fine along with a smaller team fine. I don’t think they will lose draft picks IF this is determined to be isolated to just Brady and the ball attendants.

          2. But what about three of the four colts balls being underinflated?? I don’t believe the Pats did anything. I do believe there is a lot more to this than we will ever know but it smells.

            1. Definitely smells. Same as spygate, everyone knew other teams did it, but the Pats were the only ones to get caught. Same thing here. I bet other teams alter the game balls, but the Pats (fair or not) have a target on their backs for being successful. They have to be smart enough to know this and NOT take any chances like this deflating the balls crap. They are too good for that. Unfortunately, these two “scandals” will solidify an asterisk to this Patriots era from the rest of the league and fan bases.

              1. I’m not sure they altered anything. Everyone is ignoring the fact that three of four colts balls were underinflated. And why would they alter them if Brady played far better in the second half with them supposedly at the right pressure. Also, altering them would have to be done on the field in front of all the cameras. And the officials noticed nothing when they handled the balls after every play. There is much more to this and I’m not feeling totally comfortable about where it is coming from. Remember, BB threw Brady under the bus from the get go.

                1. Maybe the Colts were trying to level the playing field? I have no idea but good question.

  8. Tom – it could be the whales were right whales. I’m seeing different reports. Either way, pretty cool.

And on to weather so I cool off 🙂 72.5 here and solid blue sky. Beautiful!!!

  9. I just heard over the radio that Brady could be suspended for Game #1 vs. Steelers. I don’t know though if it is true or not. 🙁

  10. Vicki, did you just call into 98.5 the sports hub? LOL. This lady was saying some of the same things you are 🙂

      1. Yes we all know you are much better temperature forecaster. 😉

Care for a little contest? 🙂

  11. With bright sun and SE drift from the Ocean, the 2 off shore buoy temperatures
are 50 and 51. As soon as there is a wind shift, I’m sure they will drop back to 47 or 48.

  12. No green worms yet eating the leaves. I was ready to take action but I don’t think they’ll show.

  13. I’ve changed my mind on this whole wells report and Brady. While I agree this smells rotten on so many levels, for this report to come out with no real conclusive evidence and one man’s opinion, how can this be used to determine any kind of guilt or evidence of guilt? One man’s opinion of inconclusive evidence and words like “probable?” Come on man. Brady and the Pats should sue for defamation of character and the NFL should just rip up this sorry excuse for a report.

    1. Did you read the txts. MCNally and J guy clearly hate brady and other than one comment about him from some very bitter guys which is vague NOTHING incriminates brady. But they need to be fired. Sounds like they were playing hum big time

    1. Pats fans don’t give a flying #^+~. Nor should anyone. If anyone thinks deflated balls is the biggest issue facing the NFL, they need to have their heads checked.

    2. The pats fans and any American says we are innocent until proven guilty. Show me the proof and I’ll say Brady is guilty. Not he probably knew more than he didn’t know. That is the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard. Don’t convict a player with an amazing rep on that

And this pats fan says her husband is thinking he may not eat until I calm down…which he is afraid could be days 🙂

  14. All I am going to say is a QB livlihood is based on how those balls are. He knows every detail about them. They all have a way they want them. I think the eveidence is weak at best but imo Brady is responsible for this. He also lied to the league imo bc he said he knew nothing about the balls. That’s a bunch of crock imo bc every QB knows everything about the balls.

    1. That’s the only thing that gives me pause are his statements to the league when this all started that don’t jive with his statements to the investigators. There’s some inconsistencies there. And every pats fan should care about this regardless of the level of evidence. This teams and Brady’s legacy is at stake.

      1. Ace I’m curious where you see inconsistencies. If we need to stop dominating here, I’ll watch for it on FB.

Hadi, you need to give me hard evidence. I’m guessing not one person here or in this country wants to be found guilty based on the fact he probably knew more than he knew less. Scares the daylights out of me that is what we have come to

        1. Was hearing on the radio he originally said he didn’t know the ball boy but yet he works closely with him to prep the balls. There were texts to prove it. Also, I’m pretty sure Brady was refusing to turn over his phone

          1. Thanks Ace. Those are the things that give me room for pause. I have to read the entire report. I would hope they appear there also or I’d find the report to be a waste

    1. Couple of tornado warnings our around oklahoma city. Some cells in PA too but not tornadic.

  15. On to weather. Still 66 and was the best night for sitting out so far. The may flies we’re missing 🙂

      1. They were everywhere this morning here also. I yelled at them. Maybe that was enough to get them to go away tonight 😉

  16. There is one glaring problem with the report which makes any action questionable: The use of the word “probable”. Look it up.

  17. OS. And again I am off topic I know your daughter is in the area. There is UNOFFICIAL word that the guy who has been approaching kids in Uxbridge, mendon, Upton, etc has done the same in hopkinton. I know this may be a false alarm but thought it was worth being aware of.

  18. going to just put this out about the “deflate gate”
    1. why the heck does everything have to have GATE at the end of it. dam give it a break.
    2. the report is a hole bunch of nothing. Possible this, probably that. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
    3. Godell is trying to improve his tarnished reputation with the rest of the nfl, the rest of the nfl teams and fan base hate the patriots. So i was all ready thinking even if they are not found guilty, there would be people saying they did it. If they are found guilty its because they hate the pats because they are not us.
    4. patriots will be punished more harshly since the patriots win year after year.
    5. foot ball teams that cheated
Bronco’s in their superbowl years with elway were found cheating the salary cap… 2 wins were those superbowl wins tarnished.. nope
    browns using cell phones
falcons using radio to filter crowd noise.
chargers illegal substances on towels to wipe the football with.
bronco’s cheated by video taping the 49ers
jets were found guilty of tampering
jets were caught taping other teams as well.
the rule they broke was implemented the year after the superbowl years. so it was legal to do before hand so do not tell me those superbowls are tarnished. the tuck rule was a thing so do not pull that crap on me.
Also the formations the patriots did in the ravens game were all legal. they are now illegal do to the other teams crying and not knowing the rule book.
also bounty gate from the saints. you notice that none of these really ring a bell…..

    1. i also wonder if there was a motive the ball guys had, trying to get back at someone

      1. Maybe others higher up with a motive. The txts alone are curious. Well put together Matt

    1. I am looking forward to pressure and wind data from the recon plane later this morning !!

  19. I guess it might be briefly very cool near the coast tomorrow afternoon.

Thats alright, warmth to return soon thereafter.

  20. Yeah Tom NWS showing 55 on the coast but I agree quick flip over the weekend to very warm weather. Today looks like a near 10 day. High around 80 and no humidity, take this all summer.

  21. I was amazed to hear that baseball to softball size hail was being reported over the scanner last night for Cleveland County, OK. I never realized that hail could get that large!
