Wednesday PM Update

3:09PM

Apologies for the abbreviated update again as I try to fit 2 days’ worth of errands into 1 day. 😉

SUMMARY…
High pressure builds overhead tonight and ends the breezy weather but allows it to be quite cool. Temperatures rebound nicely Thursday with lots of sun. Clouds arrive by later Friday as a warm front approaches. This front will be in the vicinity from Friday night through the weekend and be the avenue for a few disturbances which bring the threat of showers. It’ll be hard to time these threats but this forecast will give it my best shot for now and then adjustments will be made, if needed. A small high pressure area is expected to bring fair weather Monday followed by a frontal system with showers Tuesday.

  1. Thank you TK.
    I like your Saturday forecast.

Last night Eric had 59 and the night before he had 56.
63-72 sounds oh so much better!!!

    1. It’s gonna be an ugly weekend however. Lots of clouds and damp. We need the rain badly and I don’t mind cloudy weather as long as we see substantial rain as in an 1+. However, cloudy weather with a few showers is depressing. After a beautiful Thursday and Friday, the sun could do a disappearing act for more times than not for the next several days. Admittedly, we’ve enjoyed fantastic weather, but if it’s going to be cloudy, then RAIN. Just as if it’s going to be bone cold, please SNOW. Not sure if any of that made any sense.

      1. Sure it makes sense, however, honestly I don’t care as long
as it does NOT rain. I hate rain, unless it comes over night, then
        it is fine.

          1. Such as? And only early April? Usually you think that most of the Winter. 😉

    1. If that’s the case than why even deal out the punishment in the first place?? I don’t think the suspension gets overturned, reduced maybe, but Brady will miss games and I predict lawyers will never end up involved. No one wants to see that including Brady and the team. I also wonder, IF Brady does end up going all the way to court over this, what about the team punishments? IMO the 1st round draft pick is the worst punishment of all in this entire mess. If Brady fights and the team doesn’t, does that make Brady selfish.

      1. OS I read that but am dubious. ACS The team is foolish not to fight IMhO. It states clearly in the report they didn’t find fault with anyone else. To level two massive penalties completely out of whack with the last two teams caught manipulating balls has to be overturned. It the team doesn’t go at it, then that is its problem. If tom feels he should, it is his reputation and I will forever lose respect for BB and Kraft if they do not back him. And where has BB been?

          1. See we are not going round and we all agree. It is the rest of the country that just doesn’t get it 🙂

    2. Don’t be fooled about WHY they got a harsh punishment. This is called redistribution of the division/wins. By doing this, they are guaranteeing the Pats start at 0-4 and give other teams a chance to make the playoffs. It’s all it is. They don’t want us to win, and certainly don’t want a historic 5th Superbowl win.

  2. Thank you TK. We are loving this weather. And isn’t the world a lovely shade of yellow

  3. Decent CAPE and Lift just to the west and southwest of SNE for Saturday with latest GFS and NAM runs. Looks like we stay in the stable air but its close.

    1. Yeah nasty cloudy, cool, damp air. Watch for a raw BD cold front again later in the weekend.

  4. If you look at those model runs of the GFS and NAM the warm sector is not that far away for Saturday. It something worth keeping an eye on.

  5. Anyone remember the supercells that passed through the SE New England area in the very early morning of August 10, 2000? I recently remembered this event. It was the fiercest lightning displays around here that I have ever seen. It was one of the few times that we ended up in the cellar because of a Tornado Warning.
I found this “play-by-play” of the events of that morning from NWS-BOX Skywarn. Very interesting.

    1. I do not remember it. However, my guess is it was at the time. With horses in two different locations at the time and not near us, we were always aware of danger.

That is a GREAT account. Thank you for sharing it.

    2. I have absolutely ZERO recollection of that? Strange for me. I guess it’s
because it didn’t affect my area, so I had no concerns.

      Weird.

Absolutely awesome account and many thanks for sharing.

  6. Kind of ironic that the National Weather Service office had to evacuate because of a possible tornado!

      1. Yup, you do. It’s called Woods Hill Weather. 😀

Well only IF you are up and reading posts.

I wonder if there is anyway WHW could broadcast some sort
of warning to it’s members? We could supply Tk with cell phone numbers and receive at least a text alert?

        TK, what do you think?

        1. Ohhhh I like that. If I hear anything at night I come here but too many live east of here so may not hear anything firsf

  7. Your best bet for middle of the night warnings is a NOAA weather radio with an alarm. THOSE work just fine. Cell phone warnings, on the other hand, remain unreliable. That system needs to be improved.

The NWS is excellent most of the time at giving warnings. Nobody will ever be perfect. But they are staffed 24/7 and as far as we are concerned, the Taunton office is absolutely top notch.

    1. We gave my inlaws one years ago as well as my SIL as both live in south. Good idea to get for here, TK.

  8. A check in to Logan’s “average” long term high and low temps for 5/14 finds :

    66.1F and 49.5F.

    1. Think the ocean modifies climate …

Hartford’s for the same date is :

      71.3F and 47.5F.

      1. A threat on a bathroom (I believe) door. And no, it doesn’t. It is so sad that the place where are children should be safe is such a big target.

  9. A Snow Bet.

I have a bet, involving an expensive bottle of wine, as to whether the man-made snow mounds at the Riverside T-Stop will be gone by June 1st. I am betting they will not be entirely gone by that date. This is going to be a close call!!!

    1. Nice. I heard a discussion on WEEI while at lunch.
Brady’s suspension certainly will be reduced, if not eliminated altogether.
IMHO, the NFL completely butchered this report and tailored it to the results
they wanted. I can’t wait to see how the appeal process goes.

AND on a related subject, WHY oh WHY is BB so quiet on all of this?

      1. OS – I’ve been saying that for a while……what is up with BB. I thought he tossed Brady under the bus at the start and he’s not helping now. That is one of the things that makes me wonder what is really going on.

        1. Yup, that is an issue. Perhaps Patriots lawyers
have told him to lay low in the best interest of all
concerned. There has to be a calculated reason for it and clearly it is all by design.

          Hope it doesn’t back fire.

          We shall see.

Personally, I hope it goes to Court and they NAIL
the NFL Big time. I sincerely hope so.

            1. He and his team have to know that.
There wasn’t a single text between Brady and McNally on McNally’s phone, was there?

There’s probably nothing incriminating there. He just didn’t want to turn it over
to an NFL Dickhead. A court is a different story and perhaps he is prepared to do just that.

              We shall see.

It will be very interesting and quite entertaining I’m sure.

              1. The texts were between Brady and Jastremski I believe. BUT, there could be texts between Brady and others (family members, friends, other teammates, Belichick, Kraft) that incriminate him

                1. I’m guessing there isn’t anything incriminating.

Hey you could be correct, but I honestly don’t think so.

I’m dying to see how this plays out.

                  We’ll know soon enough.

  10. Weather radios and alerts: I bought a Midland wx radio and severe weather alert device. a couple of years ago. It works really well. (Do you remember the Radio Shack “cubes”?) It had a siren for severe weather alerts. The problem was that the NOAA weather radio alert system was in its infancy. They used to send out an alert to activate the siren when there was a warning in the entire forecasting area. I used to be frightened to death out of a deep sleep because of a severe thunderstorm over the waters south of Nantucket or southern New Hampshire when I lived in Bristol County, Massachusetts!
It finally got so bad that my wife said it was either me or the weather radio that was going out the window! LOL!

I now silence the tone and I bought a red blinking light that is used for the hearing impared that I use in the middle of the night. I am usually awakened by the approaching thunder of the storm anyway. I turn the tone on during the daytime when Bristol County is under a watch or there’s a line of storms heading our way.

    1. Until they fine tune those things, I think they are useless.
I can remember Vicki residing in Framingham getting a tornado warning
alert for a tornado warned storm in another part of Middlesex County
30 or 40 miles from her. I’m sorry, but that is NOT right.

Until they can get the warning down to specific towns, either by zip code, or
phone exchanges or GPS or whatever, don’t bother.

  11. Evening all. Working on an update.
You may have been hearing from some sources about how dismal the coming weekend is going to be. Not true. While it won’t be a “wonderful” weather weekend, it won’t be a wash-out, and some areas will get some sunshine especially Sunday. It’s not even out of the question that some sun breaks out Saturday late morning to mid afternoon. As is often the case with this type of set up, there are impulses of mid level instability coming along. They can be rather difficult to time, but the best I can tell right now is that the first of these will bring the best chance of rain pre-dawn to early-mid Saturday morning. This will likely be followed by a long lull with even possible breaks in the clouds. A second impulse will bring thicker clouds and some risk for showers later in the day and evening. The driving disturbance will move offshore Sunday and I think enough dry air will be pulled into the region for at least partial clearing, if not more. It will be a cool weekend, especially near the coast, but some 70 degree readings will take place over at least inland locations.
