Monday Forecast Update

8:23PM

INTRODUCTION…
This is the first post under the new basic format I will follow. There will be daily (or almost daily) posts with a similar title such as the one above. There will be other posts that contain other related topics as well, with their own titles as I have always done. And of course, comments are welcomed. Remember to follow the guidelines and post responsibly!

SUMMARY…
The chilly and damp stretch of weather that arrived Sunday continued today and will last well into Tuesday. High pressure finally pushes it all to the south and introduces drier but still somewhat cool weather by Wednesday with a slight moderation Thursday. I’m still expecting high pressure to sink to the south later in this week with a slight warm-up, but we’ll have to keep an eye on a couple disturbances which may pass closer to or through the region and bring the chance of showers.

DAYS 1-5…
TONIGHT: Overcast with areas of fog and drizzle. Periods of rain with occasional downpours. Local flash flooding possible. Lows 45-53. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Overcast with areas of fog and drizzle. Periods of rain, but additional areas of heavy rain especially morning. Highs 48-57. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clouds linger. Lows 45-53. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs in the 60s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH with sea breezes.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 50s, some 40s valleys. Light wind.
THURSDAY: Clouds return. Highs around 70. Wind light SE.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows around 60. Wind light SE.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers. Highs 60s coast, 70s interior.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows around 60.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers early. Highs 65-70 South Coast, 70s to 80 elsewhere.

DAYS 6-10…
High pressure ridging will be well east of the East Coast and a weak mean trough will be in the Great Lakes and Northeast. This will prevent it from turning hot again for a while. Weak weather systems should provide some humidity and shower risks, but it does not look like a return to anything like the wet spell that started the month off. Temperatures and precipitation should average around normal.

DAYS 11-15…
A slight retrogression, or “backing up” of the pattern is expected, putting high pressure off the East Coast, but this will fight a northwest to southeast jet stream and occasional embedded disturbances. A couple renegade warm days may take place but no prolonged heat is in sight. Temperatures will again average near normal with precipitation near to below normal.

  1. Thanks!

I may tweak a few things here and there. This particular entry is not very well-written, but you get the idea of where I’m going.

      1. Thank you. Didn’t feel that way to me. I felt like I was playing a street hockey game while half asleep. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. … Record cold high temperature set in Providence today…

The high of 53 degrees today at tf green state Airport in Warwick
set a record for the coldest high temperature on June 1… breaking
the previous record of 56 degrees set in 1984.

The average high temperature for today is 73 degrees.

Records in Providence date back to 1904.

    1. Boston is about to break the record as well, but we discussed that earlier.
Unless it makes it to 54 by Midnight, highly highly unlikely!

      47.7 here.

  3. Saw that is was only the second time in recorded history Boston failed to make it to 50 for a high in the month of June!

  4. Ace, my pool gets full sun from 11am to around 5pm, Also have a solar cover and i hope to god that it does not rain and is nice at my pool party.

    1. I hope so to Matt. ๐Ÿ™‚ our pool had full sun for maybe 3-4 hrs/day and it very rarely got to 75 degrees. It took at least 3 days of 90+ and high 60s-low 70s at night to get it there

  5. Today could also be a record-breaker. Temp will likely hit 50, but it’s possible Boston stays in the upper 40s. And even if Boston hits 50 it will not go much further than that, which I believe would also count as a record.

  6. Two facts:

There is a Flash Flood Watch is up til 8 PM.

The TSA failed to catch 67 out of 70 weapons, a 95% failure rate, in a test run by Homeland Security.

  7. At my house I recieved 1.70″ so far starting Sunday afternoon. Looks like it could push past 2″ before it wraps up. This is very good for my lawn seeing that it was showing dead patches that were worse than last summer. It appears we have two chances of additional precip in the next 7 days, Friday and Monday. This is exactly what the lawn gods needed!

I have mowed my lawn twice so far this year which amazes me. This is the time of the year when you usually have to mow it two times a week.

      1. Yea i wasnt happy. Its all programmed so when it hit 62 in the house overnight it kicked in. The wife wasn’t happy but she did admit it was getting uncomfortable.

  8. We have three quarters of an inch since midnight. I have not kept track of each day (my bad) but we have to be over three inches here.

JR said he does not believe there will be any flash flooding at this point.

  9. I believe the rain of the last 24 hrs has been much more productive.

What happened in some cases Sunday afternoon probably accomplished little. I saw Sunday, during one of the afternoon torrents, water rushing off over dry sand. Literally, it did not soak in. Of course, then came all the evening news pictures of all the flash flooding.

But since Sunday night, there’s been drizzle and lighter rains that I think have had a better chance of soaking into the ground.

    1. Agreed, Tom. It has, for the most part, been a nice, moderate to light and consistent rain for the past two days.

  10. The rain has been most beneficial. It has kicked in the rapid proliferation of
    CRAB GRASS! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

    1. I’m pleasantly surprised I have not seen any crabgrass yet. Here’s hoping the crabgrass preventer I put down a few weeks ago will help keep it away.

  11. Nice background color, TK. Is this the same green as yesterday? It was quite a bit darker on my iPad.

    1. I think we have done it!

high temp so far today 49 Degrees as far as I can tell.
Doesn’t look like it’s going up anytime soon.

…record cold high temperature set in boston today…

the high of 49 degrees today at logan airport in boston set a record
for the coldest high temperature on june 2, breaking the previous
record of 50 degrees set in 1946.

it is also only the third time in boston that the high temperature
on any day in june was below 50 degrees. the other times this
occurred were on june 5 1945, when the high temperature was also 49
degrees and yesterday when the high temperature was 49 degrees.

the average high temperature for today is 72 degrees.

records in boston date back to 1872.

  12. I saw dim sun for about 4 minutes!!!! Alas, it’s murky again. Not complaining though, thanks to the rain, my tomatoes and cucumber plants have grown a lot!
