Friday Forecast

7:33AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 6-10)…
The final in a series of low pressure areas will cut off south of New England and weaken through Saturday, close enough for lots of cloudiness and a risk of showers, far enough away to allow a few breaks in the clouds. A cold front passing by on Sunday, Mother’s Day, will boot the weakening low out to sea, but itself will bring some showers, followed by improvement. High pressure will control Monday and Tuesday with fair weather.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Breaks of sun most likely in eastern MA and southern NH this morning. Scattered rain most likely southern MA and RI favoring midday and afternoon, but possible anywhere by late day. Highs upper 40s immediate eastern shores, 50s elsewhere. Wind N shifting to E 5-15 MPH interior, 10-20 MPH with higher gusts coastal areas.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Episodes of rain and drizzle. Areas of fog. Lows in the lower to middle 40s. Wind E to NE 10-20 MPH, higher gusts especially eastern coastal areas where minor flooding may occur near high tide times (generally 10:30PM to 12:30AM).
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy – a few breaks of sun possible but also a few scattered showers possible too. Highs in the 50s, may reach 60 far inland. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH morning, shifting to SE afternoon.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows around 50. Wind SE to S 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY – MOTHER’S DAY: Mostly cloudy morning into midday – areas of fog early to mid morning, showers likely mid morning through midday from west to east. Clearing west to east during the afternoon. Highs upper 50s to middle 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH early, then SW 10-20 MPH for a while before shifting to W with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 11-15)…
Unsettled weather returns May 11-12 and departs May 13. Fair weather May 14-15. Temperatures near to below normal early in the period, moderating later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 16-20)…

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Day 6 is this series of MISERABLE WEATHER DAYS!!

    YUCKORAMA continues!!!

    1. Let’s go for a full month with 0% of the possible sunshine.

We’re already going to be practically 20% of the way there by day’s end.

  2. Thanks TK! Quite a contrast for central vs. southern New England today. Beautiful morning here in Plymouth, NH for the semester’s last day of classes (finals next week). Mostly sunny and hopefully heading well into the 60s 🙂

  3. Partly to mostly cloudy this morning, but I did see blue sky and sun! Imagine, just seeing a little tiny bit of blue sky and sun makes all the difference! It was so nice to not have to run my wipers on my way to work (I’m conflicted about this because I know how much we do need the rain, and my thoughts are with the folks in Alberta, Canada and am praying it rains there very soon)!

  4. Something strange is happening in Marshfield ……

I’m not sure what it is.

    Its coming from the sky.

    Its bright, very bright.

Its causing the trees to cast their shadow.

We are trying to determine what this yellow brightness is ………

    1. I saw it too Tom! It was marvelous! But alas, as quickly as it appeared, it was gone in an instant, back into the far reaches of the heavens, behind the darkness cast by the clouds, never to be seen again…

      1. Boooooooooo 🙁 …and I sit in a room without windows, so I have no idea what’s going on outside. We could have a zombie apocalypse and I wouldn’t know. Have a fair amount of work to do today, so no getting up anytime soon!

  5. The same UFO-like bright light, surrounded by some Carolina blue, just came over Middleborough 30 minutes ago. There are F-16s flying over the area to investigate.

  6. I also kept hearing the same five notes, being played over and over, faster and faster…
Wait, sorry. That was “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

  7. Sky just brightened up here. I don’t see the shadows previously reported, but the sky is significantly brighter. 😀

  8. I still think everyone greatly overreacted to the unsettled stretch. 😀

Let’s hope we don’t get another 9-day sunny stretch again like we had last month.

    😛

    1. I agree and disagree.

I agree in that, a long stretch of cloudy, damp, cool spring weather is quite normal in New England and so, acting frustrated that its happening is really fighting the norm or expected.

I disagree in that, even when you know its coming, 5 days and counting (I really don’t count a few glimpses of sun as it ending) is understandably tough to take for some people. And so, on that angle, I know I express frustration cause it gets depressing not seeing the sun after a while. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Bout sums it up for my thinking too. We know it’s cut off season, but still doesn’t make me like it. As I’ve said before, it’s the lack of any type of high temps over upper 40’s that put it in the hopper for me.

      2. Sorry…WHW account temporarily out of service. 😉

Of course then you have someone like my wife, who is literally “allergic” to the sun. The stretch we had in April was, for her, in many was analogous to the grey stretch for many others.

  9. TK or anyone, any rain expected later? I know your forecast mentioned it just didn’t know if anything is changing or not? Thanks.

    1. Speaking of nyc. My wife has been asked if she would like a promotion to the nyc office. They are in a process of making nyc the main office in the northeast. We shall see. We will be going to a Yankee game in June. Not sure which game yet though.

      1. Manhattan blak!!! But there’s many nice areas around nyc. We’ve been there maybe 30-40 times.

  10. Interesting look on the national radar right now. The low centered around DC spinning counter clockwise pulling the rain over us SE to NW. Then on the opposite side of the country with a low spinning around the southwest and even pulling rain into the San Diego area. You can almost see the omega structure on radar without having to look at a 500 mb map. Pretty cool.

    1. Forgot to add that you can even see the rain moving along with that kicker low moving across Ontario that will move this mess out of here.

  11. Family and I are thinking about taking a short day trip to the north shore. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go?

    1. Newburyport is nice if you want to go that far. Cape Ann (Gloucester / Rockport) are the obvious draws.

Route 1A ride has several shops and a zillion places to eat if that’s any kind of draw to you.

If you want to be closer to Boston, Nahant to Marblehead are scenic.
