Sunday Forecast

10:41AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 12-16)…
The cool pattern is entering its final days but will be reinforced once again by a cold front charging across the region this morning. This front is moisture-starved, so only some cloudiness is about all it can muster up. An isolated shower may result but most areas will see nothing. More cloudiness will wheel in from the north later in the day as a broad pool of cold air aloft circulates its southwestern side across New England while the center passes northeast of the area. This cold pool will be east of New England Monday into Tuesday so we’ll still be under its influence, especially Monday, which will be a breezy and cool day with some cloudiness around at times and perhaps even a couple passing showers over southern NH and northeastern Massachusetts especially from late afternoon into evening. Any of this activity should be well offshore Tuesday. As we get to midweek, high pressure will become established and bring warmer, sunnier days.
TODAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. A few isolated showers possible. Temperatures cool from the 70s to the 60s. Wind W shifting to NW 15-25 MPH with gusts 30-40 MPH at times.
TONIGHT: Mostly to partly cloudy. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Wind NW to N 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH or higher at times.
MONDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. Brief passing showers possible southern NH and northeastern MA late day. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind N 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows from the middle 40s interior valleys to middle 50s coastal/urban areas. Highs in the 70s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs around 80.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows around 60. Highs around 80.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 17-21)…
The pattern during this period will feature a final attempt at a cool-down to start the period as a trough axis is pushed southward across New England on June 17, then replaced by a growing ridge of high pressure from northwest to southeast for the remainder of the period. This transitional time will start with some cloudiness at times on June 17 then sunshine dominating for several days thereafter. Temperatures will start the period near to below normal and end up above normal for the last 3 days of it.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 22-26)…
Early summer heat June 22-23, tempered by a cold front around June 24-25 briefly, but limited moisture will limit rainfall. Fair again by the end of the period.

  1. Thank you for the update. We’re getting there, slowly but surely.
77 here now, I guess it won’t go any higher and likely to fall back some.
I am hopeful the high June Sun angle will at least maintain the temperature.

    1. Vicki just an awful situation. Worst mass shooting in U.S. history. We have seen too many of these tragedies over the years.

      1. The attack took place around 2 a.m. last night at the Pulse nightclub. 300 revelers were in the building as Omar Matteen, a United States citizen aged 29 from Port St. Lucie, FL, entered with a handgun and an AR-15 β€œBushmaster” assault rifle – the very same weapon used to kill twenty six at Sandy Hook Elementary and twelve at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado – and proceeded to slaughter fifty innocents and wounded fifty-three more.

Yet there are those out there who still support the right
for US citizens to own these type of weapons. Twisted!

      2. It’s not a tragedy. A tragedy is a bad accident that kills people. This was terroristic murder.

        1. It is a tragedy that in this country we still foster prejudice. Although I suspect you know what I meant. We are all equal. Yet we continue to try to legislate equality which implies it is somehow negotiable.

  3. Just saw the EURO and its 850 mb temps for hr 240.

20 to 22C ….. Am I really reading that correctly ? That seems excessively hot. 95F plus potential.

  4. Was 77 most of the way Sutton to Wellesley on my car thermometer. However jumped to 79 in Wellesley with what seemed like stronger wind and more clouds. May have just been focused on other things prior however

  5. Horrific and senseless carnage in Orlando. “I am Orlando,” just as “I am Paris,” “I am Oklahoma City,” “I am Virginia Tech,” “I am Sandy Hook,” I am Aurora,” “I am Oslo,” “I am Brussels,” etc. In each instance, the victims could have you or me, your loved ones or mine. Hence the “I am.” The perpetrators were deranged. Some belonged to militant organizations, others did not.

I find labeling acts of mass murder as terrorist or non-terrorist somewhat problematic. In part because we become so primed to zero in on a potential religious or ideological motive, with the attendant consequence of demonizing entire groups of people. Radical Islam is salient in the minds of many – myself included – as a perpetrator of acts of terrorism. But, radical Islam doesn’t own monopoly rights to terrorism. And radical Islam is not representative of the vast majority of Muslims. Militant anti-abortion folks have killed to further a cause. But, the vast majority of pro-life people are not violent. Anti-government folks like Brevnik, McVeigh, and others, have killed to further a cause. But, the vast majority of anti-government folks are not violent. Moreover, labeling an act of mass murder as terrorism or non-terrorism may mask fundamental issues we have here and overseas with under-funding of mental health care and easy access to weaponry (a particularly American phenomenon). Andreas Lubitz’s suicidal impulses led to the death of over 150 innocent people last year as he deliberately crashed a German jet airliner into a mountainside. Yet, there’s little real discussion of more funding of mental health care, and reforming laws and regulations regarding confidentiality of patient data. Similarly, Adam Lanza’s slaughtering of school children touched off an ever so brief conversation about mental health and guns. The conversation didn’t last long, unfortunately.

    1. Thank you, Joshua. That so needs to be said ….over and over. I think the president was very correct when he said it was an act of Hate.

  6. The report at this point is the shooter called 911 while he was shooting and pledged allegiance to ISIS.
So there you go. Islamic terror. Call it what it is, people. It ain’t Catholics trying to kill us.
That’s all I’ll say. I suspect my politics don’t line up with some regular posters here, but that’s ok. I’ll stick to weather and will all get along πŸ™‚

    1. Your’re right that your politics don’t line up with some of us (not sure how many) but a reasonable discourse on these issues is what is needed and your thoughts are just as important and valid as anyone’s (as long as all of us can keep us civil). My take..yes Terrorism, LGBT hatred (yes it’s there too whether it was religious based or personal–according to the shooter’s father), Mental health and a problem with gun control in this country. Why oh why does anyone need a Bushmaster AR15 and why was he allowed to own (purchase) one.

      1. I’m a big believer in the second amendment. I own guns. Hand guns, rifles, shotguns. Have the carry permit. I can shoot a target on center mass and take a shooter out and many many yards. BUT, I’ve never had a reason to own an AR15 or any other high capacity rifle. No need. They should be banned.
But, I will say if someone wants one, no law making it illegal will stop them from getting one, but it might make it a little harder.

        1. Umm I can think of why…you are in a night club and a guy walks in with an AR and you brought a bolt action. Never wish to be outgunned.

          1. I hear ya there too. But they wouldn’t let me in a night club with my sig 9mm. And I can promise you I could have hit that shooter center mass as long as he didn’t get me first. But a sig 9 isn’t a match for an AR 15

            1. The problem is that this guy was interviewed by FBI. Three times. They found nothing. First amendment rights cover anything he said.

He bought all firearms legally last week according to reports. How does that not mean gun laws need to be changed. And mental health enters into it. And hate which many of our politicians spread

He may have said he supported ISIS but does ISIS know this or is he, who was American, just need an excuse?

        2. BTW I shoild have added Blackstone that your view is one I share. Guns are a right. High capacity (maybe wrong term) are not and should be banned. There is a middle area we need to reach. Every responsible gun owner I know believes this.

  7. After a bizarre 06z GFS operational run with the cut off that I posted on the previous blog entry, the 00z ECMWF also bit the same piece of sour fruit, leading me to think some kind of shared information was corrupt. I am not sure if this theory is correct, and more doubt was cast when I saw that the 00z CMC was in the same boat, but still… something does not seem right. So the waiting game is underway, and already the 12z CMC has backed off the idea and moved a weaker cut off further south and east of New England, and the 12z GFS operational has backed off the speed and intensity of the system, and the GFS ensembles from 12z offer little or no support to the cut off scenario.

    1. That 00z Euro inferno was muted at 12z too. At any rate, it may not be an inferno from the far depths of Hades, but it does look to warm up a little towards the end of the week.

      1. I think the inferno was overdone as well as the upper low scenario. Something is up with the data. I’ll give it the rest of today to sort itself out.

  8. I listened to a Unitarian minister on NPR on the way home this pm. She made a comment that I wish everyone could hear and I know I won’t do it justice but will try to paraphrase it.

She said that they….her congregation…falls on the side of love. She called this a hate crime because the person targeted an entire group. She cautioned that we must not also point fingers and target an entire group. He was one man. He did not represent an entire group. We must absolutely be certain not to group the Muslim community in the same way this man grouped the LGBT community.

    1. We’re 180 degrees opposite here Vicki. Sorry, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one and let it be.

  9. On to weather….this is absolutely one of my favorite types of weather. Is it more like early spring or even fallish? I suppose if one need to categorize it it. But I absolutely love it. I’ve decided the trees here play a different tune in the wind than they did in framingham. It’s one I love. And the clouds are awesome.

    1. I categorize it more in the late April feel versus the autumn feel, and my reason for doing that is because of the later sunset versus the much earlier one we’d have in autumn. πŸ™‚

Knowing there is heat of summer not that far off, I enjoy this particular batch of cool air even more. πŸ˜€ I always loved the contrast and the anticipation of weather changes.

  10. 18z GFS backs away further from the “upper low disaster prognostication” for June 19.

      1. My thoughts are this will be the pattern from about June 20 into the first week or 2 of July and then we’ll start to build a more classic Bermuda High going forward from there.

          1. It’s been a while since we’ve been in a classic Bermuda High pattern. We’ll see that for at least part of summer 2016.

  11. Is the big heat going to be delayed a teeny bit beyond the 20th?

AFAIC it can be delayed until October. πŸ˜‰

    1. We’ll get shots of heat and the overall temp pattern will be above normal last third of June through first third of July. It won’t be hot every day as we will still have the mean ridge to our west with the ability for over the top disturbances. I just don’t see them digging troughs and pulling down chilly air to the magnitude of the last 2 (this one included).

  12. Vicki, Thank you for sharing what you heard on the radio. Murderous acts of terror, such as those perpetrated by Omar Mateen and Dylann Roof, or psychopathic acts of violence such as the ones committed by Adam Lanza and Seung-Hui Cho, should bring us all together in solidarity. We’re one nation, and not groups pitted against another. The ISIS and Al Qaeda mindset does pit groups against one another, as does fascism, communism, and religious fanaticism of all kinds. We’re better than that. Much better. And we need to lead by example.

    1. I’m glad it resonated. It sure did with me. If we target groups for the actions of one, we are no better than the people you named. And you are right. We are so very much better than that. You sure are correct that the aim of these people is to pit groups against each other. Divide and conquer. I hadn’t thought so far as to realize that is a deliberate tactic.

  13. The 00z GFS has a low move off the East Coast later this week then it drifts southward, sitting off the Southeast for a few days. it moves northward early next week but weakens, bringing just a little rain into southern New England next Tuesday. It’s not the 12z Euro “your weekend will suck” pattern (which had virtually NO support from the ECMWF Ensemble), but it’s not exactly the complete opposite. The 00z CMC also drifts it south, develops it into a tropical system, then sends it into Jacksonville early next week. Then again, it wouldn’t be the CMC if it wasn’t trying to develop a tropical system somewhere.

00z GFS also does not show much sustained heat across New England for the next 2 weeks. It’s got a few warm days, but that’s it. (And I am perfectly fine with that)
