Front Pauses, Causes Interruption In Great Weather

11:16AM

The cold front that moved into the region Wednesday night, causing scattered thunderstorms, has hung itself up in far southern New England and will sit there until Saturday morning. This front may result in a few thunderstorms south of Boston today, scattered showers as a wave of low pressure moves along it across southern New England Friday afternoon and evening, and perhaps a shower early Saturday over far southeastern New England before high pressure finally pushes it out of here for the rest of the weekend.

Looking into next week, the large scale pattern over the USA is likely to feature a large ridge of high pressure in the middle of the country. This tries to push hot weather our way at times, but with the jet stream nearby, fronts pass by on a fairly regular basis, so here, we see air mass changes, variable temperatures, and mostly fair weather with episodes of showers and storms, mostly brief.

Details for the next several days for the Boston area…

TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy, warm, and moderately humid. Isolated thunderstorms south of the Mass Pike this afternoon. High 82 to 87. Wind variable to W 5 to 15 mph.

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 61 to 66. Wind variable up to 10 mph.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers in the afternoon. High 72 to 77. Wind E 5 to 15 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 62 to 67. Wind E up to 10 mph becoming N.

SATURDAY: Clearing. High 78 to 83. Wind N 5 to 15 mph.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 64. High 85.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 68. High 88.

TUESDAY: Showers/thunderstorms. Low 68. High 82.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 61. High 81.

  1. The weekend looks phenomonal. This week last year there were places in SNE that hit the 100 degree mark. That is way too hot for me. So far this summer has not been heat or humidity wise compared to last year. Hopefully I will be saying that in August.
Thunderstorm Index just at 1 since I don’t see severe weather.

  2. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. TK I have a wedding I have to attend in Kennebunkport, ME on Saturday late afternoon, and an outdoor Rehearsal dinner Friday late afternoon. I think the wedding on Saturday looks fine what about tomorrow afternoon in Kennebunkport, ME? Will we be on the northern fringe of the rain up there? Anyone else that may know please chime in…Thanks

    1. I think the rain may stay south of you on Friday. Saturday may start cloudy but should turn glorious.

      1. Do you think the rain will also stay south of Jefferson, NH??

Haterain – my business associate has a place in kennebunkport and headed on up there today for an extended weekend. Lovely area!!! Enjoy. John, I hope your vacation is perfect!!

      2. I should have added, TK, that my daughter keeps seeing storms/showers popping up in forecasts for Jefferson NH for Saturday and then the next time she looks it says no rain – very confusing!

        1. At the moment I think it will stay south. Please check back. I will give the 00z runs a full look and update.

  3. Hi TK- I am on vacation next week, how does the weather look for the next 9days. Thank’s TK.

    1. The overall pattern is a great one for vacation. Interruption may come around Tuesday in the form of a cold front with showers/storms. Check back!

  4. Are any of you fans of WBZ TV on Facebook? Barry posted. I commented. See if you can figure out which one I am. Tom, you are already a FB friend so you can’t guess. 😉

    1. I took a wild guess, seeing how 2 people posted, I figured it’s the one with the lengthy paragraph 🙂

      1. Yes, and since only 2 people had posted at that time, and my name isn’t Maria (sorry wrong gender), it would have been pretty simple. 🙂
