Thursday Forecast

3:33PM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 2-6)
Simple pattern = simple forecast. Warm front has gone by today and has brought lots of clouds but mild air. Cold front will cross the region during Friday and will be proceeded by very mild air and accompanied by a broken to solid line of showers. High pressure slides west to east across southeastern Canada over the weekend. A north to northeast flow of air will bring fair weather on Saturday and as the wind turns east to southeast Sunday it will become at least cloudy and possibly wet at times. The flow will continue to veer toward the south and southwest by Monday ahead of a cold front so it will warm up again that day but still be on the unsettled side.
REMAINDER OF TODAY: Lots of clouds / partial sun. Highs 65-72. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 53-58. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy through mid afternoon north and west and late afternoon south and east with a band of rain showers likely moving northwest to southeast across the region during the afternoon, then a clearing trend especially north and west late. Highs 67-74. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, a few higher gusts, shifting to W late.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 36-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 53-58. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 38-45. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light rain. Highs 48-55. Wind E to SE 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 7-11)
Cold front sweeps through early November 7 with a rain shower risk followed by drying then fair and cooler through November 8, warming somewhat November 9 and 10 with a rain shower risk followed by cooler again November 11.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 12-16)
Unsettled weather early in the period followed by fair and cooler to colder as a flat ridge in the Southeast backs up a bit to the Midwest and allows a dip in the jet stream over the Northeast.

  1. Thanks so much, TK…
Life is spinning at 45 rpm right now. For the younger generation, 45s are what we used to buy if we wanted to hear the latest single…before downloads!!!

Sue, I just wanted to say what a wonderful story you posted a couple of days ago about the Abington coach. I am assuming it was Pop Warner football since you mentioned the game was Sunday!!! What a moving tribute!

I saw a similiar story on Channel 4 last night about the Attleboro and North Attleboro (eternal rivals) Pop Warner teams dedicated the game to one of the NA young players battling cancer. It was planned by the Attleboro team!

I have coached at the youth level (soccer and baseball) and at the high school level (track and field) and, from my experience, most of the coaches and parents are there for the right reasons: the kids. Of course, there are the few that should be near a field and, like most things, are the one who are on the news or social media.

I have witnessed many coaches cheering for both teams during a game as they know kids on both teams.

    1. Thank you Captain. It was my son’s Silver Lake Coach that requested the moment of silence at the Abington field. He knew my dad tore up that field during his high school years and how much it meant to us to see my boys playing on that field. Class act for sure and a reminder that it isn’t just about winning.

  2. All week I have been thinking about Sunday night’s storm. I know it has been said here before…the winds weren’t that bad and look all of the damage and havoc it caused. Imagine the storm that is overdue…We are in big trouble.

    1. I have been thinking the same thing, Captain. Areas of MA are still out. I read somewhere that the storm caused the largest number of blackouts in Maine’s history. I know RI was still out in parts Monday night. Maine, in particular, surprised me. They have to have had far larger storms – wind, rain, or snow – than this.

I know a good deal is due, in part, to the cuts in testing by utilities. I’ve said here before that the company Mac worked for (40+ years) and I worked for until early 2000s (30+ years) specialized in power equipment testing for the utilities (98% of the utilities in north america were their clients). The test schedule has become longer and longer.

Also, and also along the line of cutting expenses, trees have not been maintained near power lines. Double poles that are supposed to be removed in a matter of months are left standing. You don’t see them as much in wealthier towns, but you see plenty in other areas.

I am sure that lack of preventative testing and care increase the chances of an outage.

  3. Thank you, TK.

Speaking of time zones, did you know that Newfoundland/Labrador is 1.5 hours ahead of us? I’ve always found that so bizarre. So, across Canada from, say, Vancouver to St. John’s, there’s a 4.5 hour difference.

  4. It’s November–so I’ll be back checking this blog on a daily basis after a 7 month hiatus. Eric Fisher suggesting some cold air could be in play prior to Thanksgiving–here’s to hoping!

    1. Welcome back. Even though it can be quiet at times during the Summer,
it is very nice site to visit. Come by more often. 😀

    2. From “about” 11/15 forward it looks cooler to perhaps even cold.
We shall see and I’ll believe it when I see it. 😀

          1. Yes, of course, but the Euro shows the 20s to the coast. Do I have to be that explicit around here????? 😀 😀 😀

  5. Good morning,

Let me see, I believe it is 11/3???? Yes? Came into the office today
wearing a short sleeve Jersey (dress down day) and jeans without any
jacket whatsoever. That is how warm it is. Insanity.

Will Boston chase the record high for today? My Understanding from Harvey last night is that the record is 76. He is expecting 71 or 72, so there appears to be a fairly
wide gap there. One never knows. 😀

    1. They will fall short.

For as warm as this autumn has been, Boston has not set many warm records. 😉

  6. New post!

It’s kind of a cheat-post since I updated late yesterday. There is not much “new” there.

    See you in the comments!
