Friday Forecast

9:44AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 3-7)
A cold front will cross the region during today and will be proceeded by very mild air and accompanied by a broken to solid line of showers. High pressure slides west to east across southeastern Canada over the weekend. A north to northeast flow of air will bring fair weather on Saturday and as the wind turns east to southeast Sunday it will become at least cloudy and possibly wet at times. The flow will continue to veer toward the south and southwest by Monday ahead of a cold front so it will warm up again that day but still be on the unsettled side. By Tuesday we should be back to dry but this time much cooler weather.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy through mid afternoon north and west and late afternoon south and east with a band of rain showers likely moving northwest to southeast across the region during the afternoon, then a clearing trend especially north and west late. Highs 67-74. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, a few higher gusts, shifting to W late.
TONIGHT: Clearing. Lows 36-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 53-58. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 38-45. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light rain. Highs 48-55. Wind E to SE 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 8-12)
A wave of low pressure should stay south of the region early November 8 otherwise dry and cool, then dry and moderating November 9, a chance of rain or showers with a cold front about November 10, briefly fair and cooler November 11 then unsettled weather returns to end the period as a fairly fast flow dominates.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 13-17)
Unsettled weather early in the period followed by fair and cooler to colder as a flat ridge in the Southeast backs up a bit to the Midwest and allows a dip in the jet stream over the Northeast.

  1. I am getting the feeling that November will trend the complete opposite of October in terms of temps…correct?

    1. I think the trend will eventually be for this month to approach normal in terms of temperature and precipitation. This said, yesterday and today certainly feel like an extension of the warmth we had in October.

  2. Thank you, TK. So far we have been warmer than Atlanta every time I have spoken with my sister in law lately. She is coming for a visit this weekend. I think we may have a bit of an autumn feel for her judging by your forecast. I’m hoping that Sunday pm might see warm enough temps for us to sit out….or dry enough to have a fire.

  3. Roller coaster temperature ride so far with the temps going up and down. I am hoping when we get into December we will get a few opportunities for snowfall around here. I am not upset if does not snow in November but December through March I can’t stand rainoramas.

  4. Thanks, TK…
Darkest commute of the year this morning. There was fog on the bog!
Warm in my classroom right now. Windows face the south and the sun is so low in the sky, the sun’s rays are shining in and cooking the room like a greenhouse.

    Shadows don’t match the temperatues!

I was going to type “Go Pats” but it’s the bye week. I don’t like bye weeks.

Nonetheless, have a great weekend, y’all!

  5. HMMM, Logan is at 74 and Norwood is sitting at a lofty 77!!

2 short of Boston record. I hope it sneaks up there or has snuck up there
    in between obs. 😀 😀 😀

      1. Well, it hasn’t happened yet and TK only mentioned briefly cooler, nothing about COLD, other than a cold front.

moderating November 9, a chance of rain or showers with a cold front about November 10, briefly fair and cooler November 11

  6. Thanks, TK.

Weather is interesting around here because it invariably presents us with surprises. While I never discount long-term forecasts or trends entirely, I take them with a grain or maybe even a tablespoon of salt, especially during transitional periods like April and November. We don’t know yet how this month will play out. But, recent model trends suggest colder than we all thought just a few days ago. I would love to see that verify. How about ice on the ponds in early December. That would be nice. I learned to skate on a pond in Needham in 1972 and 73. I recall early December freezes without snow at first, which meant beautiful black ice.

    1. Indeed. I can remember many a December in my youth where
there was safe ice early in December, sometimes as early as around 12/5, almost always by 12/15. However, I don’t ever recall being able to skate in November.

Btw, I was born in Needham and although I was gone by age 5, I would often
visit and stay with my Grand parents well beyond that.

Where did you skate? Rosemary? Walker-Gordon? Or some other location?

      1. Skated at Rosemary, but my favorite spot was where we lived. It’s close to where you sometimes fish – on the Dover/Needham line. We had our own little pond.

I also do not recall skating in November. But, I do remember skating in early to mid December. The pond was not deep – maybe 7 or 8 feet in the middle. It froze over quickly.

  7. Please tell me the humidity went down as the day progressed. It felt damp this am but lovely in afternoon. On the deck now enjoying the air. TONS of dark clouds have moved through. No rain

  8. JPD, Yes, I skated at the one that abuts the river (Mill Street), but the little one I’m talking about is the circular pond across the river to the northeast of the one that abuts the river to the left. The elongated pond to the right of the little circular one is not as skatable as it has lots of vegetation (bushes) that stick out through the ice. We lived on Wilson Lane, at the very end. My parents rented the house for $300 a month for 4 years. As Joe Castiglione says, “can you believe it!”

    1. Wow. $300/month. Macs and my first apartment was in Lexington in 1978 for $251. I’d say it had about 1000 sq Ft minimum. Captain Parker Arms.

        1. The home was out of the way, and almost inaccessible in winter storms. Wilson Lane is … a lane. Hardly paved, and on a hill. My parents owned a 1965 International Harvester (precursor to SUV), which sort of got up the hill. The other car was a 1966 Volvo station wagon, which was terrible in winter weather. Both cars were 4-speed manuals, which helped a little in terms of control. But, they were bulky and always got stuck in snowdrifts, or on icy patches.

My Dad had a way of finding cheap AND interesting housing. The only problem with all the renting we did is that we moved from town to town to town to town. We stayed in Needham for almost 4 years, but we also lived in Nahant, Milton, Natick, and Brookline for 1-2 year periods. It drove me crazy as I had to switch schools so often.

          1. Fascinating, Joshua. I sympathize Oddly, I only lived in Belmont. However, my parents sold the house I lived in until maybe a year and then we rented four different homes until they puchaswd when I was 14 in 1963. It meant starting in a private school which I hated because my neighborhood friends didn’t attend and then changing to three other schools. And still in the same town….just different kids which of course made the difference. But then mac moved around the world so he is probably laughing down at me

    1. According to Accuweather, near record temps for Boston on Monday. When will this warmth ever end? April??

    2. For the month overall yes. But we’ll have some below normal temperature days. We had a few of those in October too. 🙂

        1. Yes there were very few. But we’ll have several below normal days in November before the middle of the month.

  9. According to Barry this morning, November is the tip-off as to what the upcoming winter will be like. If that is the case then I can only imagine what November 2014 must have been, given January/February 2015. Did any measurable snow fall November 2014? I would be curious. I honestly don’t remember.

    1. At Boston, November 2014 was 2.2F below normal, 1.28 inch wetter than normal, and they had 2.6 inches of snow, which is 1.3 inch above their 1.3 inch average.

  10. New post!

And as the moon sets and the run rises I am off to the SNE Weather Conference.

See a couple of you there perhaps!
