Monday Forecast

7:15AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 7-11)
High pressure builds in today through some leftover low level moisture will result in early fog for parts of the region and then a sun/cloud mix as the ground heats and the moisture rises into cooler air during the day. Still have to watch a low to the south Tuesday in case it is close enough to spread more cloudiness into the region as high pressure tries to hold it off. High pressure will take more control by Wednesday with nice weather before a cold front approaches late Thursday and passes through early Friday with most of the shower activity expected Thursday night with the front. Detailed forecast…
TODAY: Areas of fog early otherwise a cloud/sun mix. Highs 58-65, cooler coast. Wind light variable becoming NE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog in low-lying areas. Lows 38-45 most interior areas, 45-52 coastal and urban centers. Wind calm.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny north, mostly cloudy south. Highs 60-67, cooler coast. Wind light E to SE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 46-53. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 60-67 immediate coast, 68-75 elsewhere. Wind light variable with coastal sea breezes.
THURSDAY: Sunshine, clouds late, risk of showers at night. Lows from the lower to middle 50s. Highs from the lower 60s South Coast to upper 60s to lower 70s elsewhere.
FRIDAY: Early clouds and possibly a shower then more sun and breezy. Lows from the middle to upper 50s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 12-16)
The May 12-13 weekend is uncertain but will probably be somewhat unsettled. What is most uncertain is timing and position of frontal boundaries in the area, so will need to figure that out in the next few days. The leaning is toward fair weather for Saturday May 12 with a front still far enough south and damp/cool weather Sunday May 13 as it moves into the region as a warm front. This timing would probably lead to a shot of warm air about May 14 then a trend back to cooler again May 15-16. Again, highly uncertain and low confidence forecast period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 17-21)
Still watching for the possibility of an omega block to set up which could put the region into several days of unsettled weather. This is also low confidence and not unusual for trying to look ahead and upcoming weather in the spring.

  1. Thanks TK!

It seems more often than not, Mother’s Days are usually unsettled around here although there have been some very nice ones as well.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

RIP Boston Bruins (till next year)

Despite the poor officiating, I think they were simply outplayed by a superior team.
    Perhaps next year.

    1. I don’t follow hockey….but what is the thing with licking another player? Makes me squirm just typing it.

      1. I think Brad Marchand is mentally unstable. How/why else would he be doing this?????

        1. I’m just glad he’s not out there hitting guys in the head and slew footing everyone getting penalties and getting suspended. I think this is his way of channeling that. Nothing in the rule book against licking. I think its hilarious (albeit gross)

          1. there is going to be a Marchand rule, as one of my friends put it. No licking aloud lol.

          2. It is sad how much we accept in adults that we teach our children at very young ages is completely inappropriate.

      2. He is a bit of a sicko, in my view. Love his line mates; can’t stand him. Lots of anger in that guy, IMHO. πŸ™

        1. I don’t have a ball (or puck) in the game since I don’t watch. But it sure looks as if you are correct. I was dumbfounded when I saw it and then learned it is something he does.

          1. Bruins are 0-23 when trailing 3-1 in a series.

Tukka Rask is 7-15 lifetime in deciding games.

With all these negative stats they realistically never had a chance once they lost game 4.

  3. Thanks TK.

Need a nice forecast for May 19th. 6th birthday party scheduled outside with way too many 6 years olds πŸ™‚

    1. Oh my – I’ll hope for that for sure. It cannot be six years since we were waiting for your youngest to be born.

  4. Thanks TK
At least you still got the Celtics and what is amazing with their playoff run is missing Kyrie Irving and Gordon Heyward your one win away from a conference finals. Looking at this time if there doing this well with the two of those players out look out next year when there back. I think they will be a heavy favorite to win the east next year assuming Lebron leaves Cleveland.

    1. Even if Lebron stays the Celtics still have an excellent chance of winning the east as long as Kyrie and Heyward are healthy.

  5. Thank you, TK.

JJ, I read yesterday that the Yankees hadn’t won 15 of 16 since September 1980. Is that true? Didn’t the 1998 Yankees go on a 15 of 16 run or better? In any case, the Yankees look awesome, pitching has come around, and the showdown this week in the Bronx will be reminiscent of years past. I love it. It’s the best rivalry in sports, in my view. Two very good teams going at one another. Contrast this with the AL Central. That’s a laughable division in which a so-so team is in first and lots of mediocre teams have a shot at the division title.

Vicki, Brad Marchand is a talented player, and apparently a nice person off the ice. A friend and colleague of mine lives in the North End, in the same apartment complex as Brad. Marchand is nice to everyone in the building, is very approachable and easygoing. Always smiling and has a delightful Nova Scotia (Halifax native) accent – Canadian with a tiny bit of a Scottish ring to it. [By the way, the Newfies (from Newfoundland), like Michael Ryder, have an even more pronounced Scottish twang, while many Labradorans really sound Scottish.] On the ice, however, it’s a different story. He’s been a nuisance, a `dirty’ player, and a petulant pest for many years. The licking is new, and it’s really bizarre. I think the Bruins will sit him down during the off-season and make sure he understands that his antics must stop. They’re certainly not helping the team at this point.

    1. How interesting, Joshua. That he is a nice person is great to know. It could be that he has a form of a disability that he struggles with. If that is the case, then it is a shame. I have always been of the opinion that sports figures should be a role model for youth. They don’t always accomplish that and there are reasons that are truly legitimate. I should have thought of that before I asked so that is my bad.

Mac’s family was from Scotland and then Nova Scotia. He still has family there and I have noticed the Scottish brogue.

  6. Thanks TK.

Back to the great weather today. Making up for last month in a big way. I’m not at all sold on the long range omega block development either. The possibility has been high enough to mention it, and it’s still possible, but if anything it’s more likely now that we just remain progressive with a semi-permanent ridge in the East. That will keep us on course for a near record warm May.

  7. Joshua the stat you read about the Yankees is right with regards to 1980. It was said on air after the game was over. The Yankees team of 1998 won 14 of 15 games. Three of the games in this current stretch the Yankees are on the bullpen blew the lead and the Yankees still ended up winning those games. The rivalry is back between the Red Sox and Yankees.

This is extremely interested, They are using acustics to collect crab, to limit the amount of bait needed, and make it so less small and female crab goes into the traps, as there is some mortality that happens in the traps, and while the pots are being pulled up. Very cool stuff and great to see members of the fishing community wanting to help conserve. Some of the biggest allies are those who depend on it.

  10. Scott77 – if you are reading, I understand that Sterling has done a considerable amount of solar installations. I understand if you do not want to discuss; but just in case, I’d be interested in your view of its impact on the town. Maybe here – I did ask TK’s permission to ask… perhaps TK could send you my email address? Sutton is now debating allowing solar arrays to be placed in a couple of locations. I already have one by my house. Thank you!

Please, please, please, this is not intended to begin a debate on solar. I am just hoping for some firsthand experience on the town level.

    1. We have a large solar complex in billerica, a quarter of it goes to town buildings the rest is sold by the town, difference is that it’s over a dump site

          1. Hi Vicki,

Yes you are correct. One of the advantages of living in the town is the Municipal company itself. Extremely affordable rates and they have recently reached out to residents offering the option to allocate a set percentage of monthly usage to solar at a specific rate. There are a number of arrays installed throughout the town and they are hardly noticeable. Definitely a positive for the town. Here is an article. https://www.renewableenergyworld.com/ugc/articles/2017/04/14/sterling-massachusetts-changes-the-business-of-electricity-in-new-england–forever.html

            1. Scott thank you. It makes sense to me. Some will save portions of existing farmland from development. My last choice is more houses.

                1. It makes such sense to me. Many folks say they’d rather houses than solar arrays. I don’t get it.

                2. Scott thank you for your help. Tk thank you for allowing me to ask Scott. Greatly appreciated

                3. Happy to help πŸ™‚ It definitely had backing from the residents. Nothing gets through this town without it.

  11. My snow shovels will be in the back of the garage as of tomorrow, so with a few days to go until my “safe date” I hereby declare an end to the snow season for 2017-2018.

  12. Comparing the 12z GFS and it’s experimental version (FV3-GFS) from the same run shows a remarkable difference between the 2 models regarding the position of the boundary for this weekend. The current GFS is north early, the experimental is WAY south, even further south than the ECMWF, which I think has the best handle on things.
