July’s Dry

3:48PM

You’ll notice some unwatered lawns starting to brown up. Topsoil has been drying out with a lack of regular rain lately. This will go on for at least a few more days and possibly longer, if what minor to moderate shower and thunderstorm threat that presents itself around Monday doesn’t produce very much.

As for the air (humidity), it’s been pretty dry in that department too, but that will be changing this weekend as a muggy airmass finally comes for a visit.

Updated forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

  1. I guess there’s a price to pay for the very nice July weather that we’ve had the past couple days.

    1. well it will warm up the pools and lakes. My mom would not go in the pool since it was “to cold for her” My mom thinks any water that is not as warm as st thomas and st johns water is to cool for her. She only went two times one when i was not born yet and then last year she might go in the lake and pool depending. So next week will be a chance for her to get in.

  2. Thanks TK.

Son is driving to Philly sat am and returning sun pm. Any chance he could run into bad storms? Thank you 🙂

    1. We’ll have to watch for a few but so far doesn’t look like any large-scale organized areas of them. One of those overnight storm clusters may occur but that would likely be Saturday night.

  3. Thanks TK ! Like the updated red glowing sunrise/sunset picture.

Its been warming a few degrees per day out here, so that today was generally in the low 90s.

Seeing lots of burnt lawns and very low water levels out this way. One majestic waterfall we came upon today had a trickle of water going over it, so, I dont think I’d mind a couple of non-severe storms to add a bit of flow to the creeks.

I am impressed with how much of the country is experiencing summer warmth. Usually, you can look to Caribou, ME or International Falls, MN and find some area that is cool, but it seems that the extreme majority of the continental US is having afternoon highs in the mid 80s or warmer.

  4. well what a sight. this evening right when the sun was going down…. 3 large dragon flies and I swear one must have been 5 inches long.( not wing span) Then seeing bats fling an hour later. thank god somthing is eating the bugs.

    1. I am a big fan of dragonflies.

On a related topic, I’ve seen an increase in fireflies of late.

      1. Our fireflies are out now too but not as many in past years. I’m happy to hear you are seeing more as ours may increase by the end of summer too!!!

  5. Thabks TK. Like the picture at the top of the blog. Hoping that the humidity does not stay around too long.

    1. heyyyyy – welcome back – nice to see you here and anxious to hear about your trip!!!! What a weather week you picked!

    1. I understand there will be a “cold” front coming through with the potential of storms on Wednesday late day although that’s a ways away.

        1. right – should have been more clear about that – was just focusing on when humidity might break 🙂

  6. Humidity sticks around Sunday through mid week. Look at those overnight lows when there up there in the 60s to the 70 degree range that means a sticky day is ahead. Those showers and storms will not break the humidity we see Sunday and early next week. As I said yesterday this what I call a Florida forecast with the chance of afternoon showers and storms where not everyone gets wet but those that do the POTENTIAL is there for heavy rain and vivid lightning. Wednesday a front moves through but I still think will see some moderate humidity but nothing like Sunday and early next week.

  7. It seems a bit of smoke has moved in aloft, gone are the deep blue skies we had earlier in the week…

  8. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but there is an air quality alert today for some areas west of Boston.
Saturday looks like the better of the two weekend days. Sunday it won’t rain all day but anything planned outdoors I would have a back up plan just in case. Don’t expect severe weather with any storms for Sunday.

  9. Nice to be back i guess. Carbon copy weather for us from last friday till yesterday, it was windy and overcast till afternoon. All six other days sunny mid 80 degrees with some humity. No complaints on the weather. In bermuda went to two beaches, and went on a glass bottom boat ride where we saw fish and reefs and a ship wreck. Also went through the triangle. The ship was was big and had lots to do. My son did the kids club and had an awesome time making friends. Hfuee cried him self to sleep last night because he did not want to leave. Is a bear today. We have no complaints at all, just wish the room was a tad bigger. Food was good with somthing for everybody. Did not come accross one rude person all week. Will do bermuda cruise again for a third time for sure. Good for the family or couple. Had fun with the slots. Lost a few hundred but thats ok. Not a gambler but had fun. Need to get caught up here now. Are we starting a heat wave.

    1. Hi John, glad you and your family had a great time! 🙂

Since you are describing your cruise, I am curious about a couple things:

      1. Since the Bermuda high brings us our HHH weather, is it just as humid if not worse in Bermuda itself?

      2. Did anything strange happen while going through the triangle, or is that all just a myth?

    2. Hi John – what a perfect time for all of you. I would have loved the glass bottom boat and going through the triangle. I read books on it a long time ago but am curious now to find out new thoughts.

          1. The glass bottom boat we were going back and fourth on if we should do it because of the cost. When we were off the boat monday night they had a special on it for tuesday departure early bird special, half off than ships price and same exact thing, well that made up our minds. And my wife enjoyed the free rum swizzles.

            1. heck for free rum swizzles full price would be fine!!! Just kidding – I’m glad you got to go. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

  10. I really like the picture thingy you changed at the top of your blog (that sunset thing). It is so pretty. 🙂

July is dry, love the rhyme 🙂 But hate the fact that it is, in fact, dry. But I love the warm weather!!

    1. It comes along with the headers WordPress gives you but I really love it too. I need to upload some of my own photos here soon.

  11. Philip not that humid. Yes it was hot but not aruba hot. My best guess is it was around 90. Nothing happened in the triangle, and was not paying attention while he was talking about that part sorry. So hot but bearable.

    1. Too bad you didn’t find out about the triangle…I have heard over the years about some military planes during WWII suddenly disappearing w/o a trace of a crash or anything. As for the humidity levels, after thinking about it, I am not totally surprised that the levels weren’t particularly high since those high pressure systems for us on the east coast literally pumps up every last drop of humidity from the tropics are probably located over or even just to the west of Bermuda providing somewhat drier conditions for the island itself. ❓

      1. Philip I think there are a fair amount of ships that have disappeared without a trace also. However, a ship is in the water so more easily explained but a plane in the air ???? Interesting stuff.

  12. Updated the blog. Keeping it mostly dry, just a couple storm chances. Don’t see any widespread deluges in the days ahead. Muggy weekend!

I am heading to Canobie Lake Park late this afternoon & evening, and I’ll be at Revere Beach Saturday afternoon and night (sand sculptures and fireworks). Spending a summer day around home on Sunday including a bbq. This is my favorite kind of weather for all of this.

    Have a great weekend all!

I will update here Saturday morning, probably Sunday morning, and again Sunday night.
