  1. TK, thank you. It seems like your forecast suggests we will have a colder day for the Pats game.

    1. Longshot, I’m hoping for a surprise Denver win today. Beating Pittsburgh and Baltimore back to back just seems an awful hard path to the Super Bowl.

  2. Today’s Logan Sun Stats (Info from Taunton NWS Sun and Moon Data)……

1 min….10 sec gain ……. 10 second earlier sunrise, 1 minute later sunset.

The light gain during the evenings should get quite noticeable every few days apart going forward, on clear evenings especially.

    1. I would be rooting for Denver because I think Pittsburgh could give the Pats problems Saturday night. I think the Tebow magic might be over in Denver and to me with
his style he will not lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl.

  3. Interesting from NWS this morning about potential for light snow on Monday night. Nothing major but maybe we can sneak a little snow in here:)

    1. Also I find interesting that none of the tv mets this morning even mentioned a remote possiblity of any snow. They usually try to find any little possible activity of precip. We will see one way or the other.

  4. I was sitting here half away wondering why I didn’t say anything about that system Monday night. And then I realized it’s because I don’t really have a Monday night period on my current forecast. 🙂

That does not look like a big deal, btw.

If anyone has FB, go read WXRISK.com’s recent post about a major pattern change. It’s well-written, almost in WeatherWizard style. You do not have to “like” the page to be able to read what’s on it.

    1. NOTE: I’m not necessarily in 100% agreement with this assessment. Just pointing it out.

            1. Thank you Tk- A ton to read. When you quiet down could you tell us what you may and may not agree with. Hope you and your dad feeling better.

  5. Thanks for the link TK !!!

You know when you get to your house after a vacation and its 50F or 85F because the heat/AC has been off while you’ve been gone. Of course, upon entering the house, you put the heat/AC on……but it takes a while for the temp of the house to respond to it……Well, I think for the last 4 to 5 months, the atmosphere has been in some different patterns that have had the similar outcomes…above normal temps. I just think that even though all these changes (startospheric warming, SOI (I think thats what it is called), etc) are taking place, it might take a while to see the atmosphere respond to it. Thats why I’m kind of not looking forward to late February, March and April, for I do think it will be cold and maybe snowy then.

  6. That was definitely quite the read, I could see the changes in both runs of the 00z GFS and euro.
I think the big question right now is what happens when the NAO goes neutral in the coming days.
And of course what happens with the pv.

    1. Scott how much snow tomorrow night. This is what I was talking about. Yesterday no talk of snow and today there is. I think most of the storms will be like this, not all. Everything is coming togeather for my above snow prediction. I am just waiting to see when the snow shows up for next weekend,
the cold air will be in place and we get a storm before MLK weekend is through, or maybe Monday night the 16th or 17th.

      1. As Scott noted snowshowers for next Sunday, this could be that storm. Philip and I predict snow next weekend, snow. No showers, feather dusting, suger coating just plowable snow. If this can only happen early in the weekend I will be seeing gold.

    1. Would you say somthing on the Idea of last Friday more wide spread. And is this a lock in or just a watch. Thank’s Scott.

      1. Possibly, and yes it would be more wide spread.
This is by no means a lock, as only one model is showing this, while 2 other decent models show it being mostly dry for the time period.
We’ll have to see what’s being shown tomorrow. I’d love a dusting of snow, haven’t come close to that since October.

  7. John it’s hard to tell what will happen in terms of precip potential next weekend, but it will get colder. If the midweek storm does change the pattern, then the models are going to have a very hard time.
I don’t see Monday night’s event as to be big in any way, just something to possibly get us back into some winter spirit.

  8. today more clouds than sun highs in the mid 40s
tonight clear lows in the low 20s
monday and monday night mostly sunny highs in the high 30s lows in the mid 20s
tuesday and wednesday partly sunny highs in the low 40s lows in the high 20s
wednesday night increasing clouds lows in the mid 30s
thursday mostly cloudy with morning rain and afternoon showers highs in the mid 40s
thursday night becoming partly cloudy low sin the mid 30s
friday becoming sunny windy highs in the upper 40s
friday night and saturday a possible light snow event. with a chance of a few snow showers lows in the mid 20s highs in the low 30s
Outlook for next sunday through wednesday time frame.
a storm sytem looks be either making a close path to new england. around the 17th. high temperatures looks to be in the upper 20s to mid 30s through this time frame with lows in the 20s. so there is a chance and i am hopefull that it occurs.

    1. IMG_3669 I hope this loads up . this was my sleeding hill last year at this time all natural snow . this year there is less than 3 inches. and its all man made snow with my tow snow makers and i have closed it.

  9. Preview of week ahead:

Monday: Quiet, few snow showers overnight or early morning Tuesday.
Tuesday: Front may create a few snow showers early, then clearing.
Wednesday: Clouds move in ahead of storm from SW, rain at night.
Thursday: Rain, tapers to showers, storm tracks southeast of Boston but too warm.
Friday: Mild and dry, may reach 50.
Saturday/Sunday: Colder, snow showers, probability of significant snow is low.

    1. I think I may disagree with the utmost respect to you. I think some forcasted light snowshowers for Sunday will turn out to be a big storm. I would lean more towards Sunday/ Monday timeframe. It will be cold enough and this may be the system changer. I have a strong feeling things will be picking up here by mid week, time will tell. I have a housefull of people here and I am blogging here, somethings not right.

      1. True but I see nothing in the upcoming pattern to support it right now. I’d be almost willing to bet now that January comes in near to above normal in temp and below normal in snow.

  10. CPC 6-10 day outlook shows below normal temps normal precipitation. The 8-14 day outlook normal temps above normal precipitation. One thing I don’t see is as much red across the nation(above normal temps) as I have seen the last several weeks.

    1. I think the 8-14 day outlook showing above average precip is a good sign for snow since there is no red like you said. We shall see..

  11. I was thinking the same thing with the above normal precipitation. I don’t see any blockbuster snow events but if this pattern change happens after the Thursday rainorma our snow chances will go up some.

      1. There actually was something for Sunday, but it was out to sea. I’ll watch it just in case 🙂

  12. The 18z GFS was a very cold run, this is Joe Bastardi’s tweet regarding it, which was funny.
18z Run of the GFS (Thank God for its lousy track record)is so cold,it should be arrested for a hate crime, cause it hates the eastern US

    1. Thats good for the storms. Also we need to watch the temps for tomorrow night regarding that snow. I suspect if we have the cold air in place this must be watched. Let me see what Mike W. has to say on it.

      1. He said 38 tomorrow, 45 tues-thurs and 50 on friday. Tuesday am said cape may see a mix but almost said not going to happing
as too dry. Also still seeing rain for midweek.

  13. I have no idea how moon affects tides. The low tide has been unusually low the last few days. This may be a foolish question but does it have anything to do with the pull of the near full moon?

    1. Yes…..that low tide may get even lower the next 4 or 5 days and the late morning to early afternoon high tide will get a bit higher. The moon is the biggest cause of the tides. Two ways…….one, its phase…new moon and full moon have highest tides. Also, whether moon is at apogee (far away, lower tides) or perigee (close, higher tides). The moon is headed toward perigee in about a week……….

        1. Well thanks….I could and have just sat there for hours on end and watched the tide come in and go out. Wild to do up at the Bay of Fundy.

          1. We were there several years ago Tom. My husbands family came from Scotland to nova scotia. We were just saying it’s time to visit again!! I love to watch the tides and am
Enjoying the nice weather but am hoping for some big tides too!

            1. Cool…….my wife has relatives up in Cape Breton, so we have taken many trips through Nova Scotia……Actually, havent been down towards Halifax way yet.

              1. Is your wife Scottish? I just finished reading a 1914 year and a half long daily journal that was my husbands great grandmothers. She lived in bible hill. Her husband was first minister of the Presbyterian church there. Great read. Felt like she was a dear friend

                1. Her family has some Scottish background…..Its great up there in Nova Scotia…love it, love the hot turkey sandwiches and I find everyone up there is so relaxed.

  14. in about an hour i am thinking of blasting my snow makers to see if i can open my sleeding hill tomorrow since it might get cold enough tonight. I will down load some of the pics later on.

    1. Sounds good. But would you be better waiting till the weekend as after tomorrow the week look’s warm.

        1. I would hate to see you do all that prep work for It to melt. Cold tomorrow. If the forcast holds I would shoot for Friday or Saturday night. I think Friday starts warm and temps start dropping throughout the day.

  15. Oh no….fumble by Broncos……..Although, Pittsburgh is so banged up with injuries, but I’d still rather take my chances with Denver.

              1. Welllll. I hope so. Problem is if pit were harder for us does it follow that team that beat pit…… It was a fun game to watch tho

                1. As Tom said Pit is banged up. I do not worry about playing Denver As I would worry
still playing a banged up Pit. We alway’s struggle playing pit. The same can be said playing Denver. But I like there chances much more now.
Now lets hope Baltmore looses next week as well.

      1. Well as I said earlier I thought if any snow would fall it would be less than an inch.
I think some places in SNE could see flurries tomorrow night since were talking a weak low
pressure system. The bigger one is Thursday when a rainorma is on tap and I am hoping that will
        finally change this pattern.

    1. I drive my SIL nuts but it’s the games everyone says we will not lose that we fall apart on. The positive is we have not looked well first half for too many games so our guard will not be let down. Should be great game.

  16. Today was good for the patriots that the Broncos won. But i saw something in the replay. On the scoring drive I think a face mask penalty should have been called. Over time touch down pass. Look at the stiff arm he loops his finger around one of the bars on the facemask
Now lets just say the ravens are a much harder team. Their a much more balanced team. I would rather have them loose

  17. today more clouds than sun highs in the mid 40s
tonight clear lows in the low 20s
monday and monday night mostly sunny highs in the high 30s lows in the mid 20s
tuesday and wednesday partly sunny highs in the low 40s lows in the high 20s
wednesday night increasing clouds lows in the mid 30s
thursday mostly cloudy warmer in the morning temps dropping through the afternoon into the mid to upper 30s rain in the morning.
thursday night. rain showers likly possibly snow mixing in in the high terrain. lows in the low to mid 30s
friday mostly cloudy in the morning chance of a mix of snow and rain showers. then becoming sunny and breezy highs in the low 40s
friday night through sunday mostly sunny highs in the low to mid 30s ,lows in the low 20s.

recent models have hinted at a cooler solution but many have stayed at the warmer solution. for the mid week storm It could end as a mix likly will change since we will need it to align just right. also another possible event for next saturday but only a few models are saying it.

  18. Had some friends up from Atlanta and its a question that is always asked and never do I have the exact answer, but why is there no street lighting on highways on these busy roads, it’s so weird we have some of the shortest days and longest nights and it’s pitch black, every person that come back to visit notices that and says its so stupid, I’ve always said its a safety hazard. I’ll be honest I feel like we r stuck in time, it just bugs me Bc I want it to be better than anywhere in country and everyone looks at this as we r stupid and outdated and need to come to times, have a great day everyone

    1. When I go out of town and travel I notice how well lit it is and when u r outa town and get used to well lit streets/exit ramps/highways r everywhere else in country and when I get back it’s like wow everything’s dark, it’s shocking,

  19. I live 35 min outside city and its a bedroom community, and everywhere else if u lived 35 min outside city they have beautiful 15-25 story skyscrapers, why can’t we have that? I gotta go to bed 🙂

    1. hahahaha – I grew up in Belmont – no sky scrapers and not one business. My mom was there her entire life. We could stand on the reservoir and see Boston – it was lovely. However, the last thing I want in a sleepy, quiet bedroom town is skyscrapers. I live in Framingham. I do not like it. When we retire I will head to a small, community type town. It’s why I love Humarock (where we are right now for the month). It’s family and community and safety and all that it should be. I love our area for what it is. If I wanted Atlanta or San Francisco or any other place – I’d live there. I really don’t want to be like anyplace but New England. I think you and I will continue to agree to disagree.

I forgot to say that since I left Belmont, forward looking residents have changed the town to the point that it is a mess. It makes me horribly sad.

      1. I just want growth Vicki, this stagnant sleepy communities just kills us, there r a ton of safe beautiful places that have short high rises and till we realize this we will be the but of all jokes and the but of America, I’m not sure u go outa town alot but to me it’s embarrassing when they come into town and I gotta drive 30 min to a restaurant to eat on a Sunday night, I think the thing here Vicki is I’ve lived in a few different areas of country and have found out how easy life can be, and here it’s just tough, it’s not just jobs is the reason why millions have left its bc it’s a easier life,

      2. Everyone seems to be moving there as those areas are rapidly growing areas, I have 2 friends in Georgia, a friend in Kentucky, a friend in Florida, 2 brothers in Tampa, 3 friends in California, and a sister in north Carolina, I’m the only one left here, there all used to be New England’s and very good educated people and we lose them everyday to them, and there the ones that spread the news that this area is so outdated, I don’t mean to sound so stupid but it just frustrates me to no end that we new Englanders bc we want sleepy communities, we r doing something wrong Vicki if we r losing so many people, I just don’t want to be part of an area that is slow larthargic and nothing going on, I love Boston. It’s a small city and needs quite a bit of growth to match what other cities in this country have, trust me, how about like a six flags closer to Boston, they gets shot down cause of traffic,, seriously??? So no more growth ever, it’s very bad

  20. People r not gonna stay in new England to pay more and have less to do, it’s 2012, people don’t do that anymore hence why millions have left and until they learn expect Massachusetts to continue to fall into the body of nowhere hence losing another congress seat in 2020, when will we learn, have a great day Vicki and enjoy conversating 🙂

  21. Charlie I was talking to my son. He says Boston has as much to offer as any other city. In many cases more He and his friends are never at a loss outside biston there is ocean and miuntains Western MA is phenominal Suburbs are full of top restaurants too. The great part is u dont have to go into the city to get a five star restsursnt We have family all over country and they love Boston. My husband has lived all over world and US. Guess it’s what you are looking for. I don’t believe it’s the area as much as cost of living that drives gen x and y away. Same on both coasts and other areas

    Fun discussion 🙂

  22. Hopefully they extend the train till 2am bc my wife works in Boston and she gets home sometimes at 1230am, so she can’t take the train bc the last train at 1145pm, when we lived in Charlotte I would take train into Charlotte at midnight and meet her so she had someone to ride back with, I just wish the area would extend there arms out a bit, thanks vicki

    1. I absolutely agree. Son is out at 11:00 and gets green line back to Cleveland circle. Public should run later for folks like your wife.
