Thursday December 25 2025 Forecast (7:09AM)

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 25-29)

A cold front passes through today and brings the chance of a few snow showers (rain or snow showers south of Boston where temperatures are more marginal). A colder air mass arrives behind this for Friday and Saturday. A clipper low will come along and deliver a minor snow event late Friday to midday Saturday, with the best chance of accumulation snow to the southwest of Boston. This will be followed by a break, before the next low pressure area tracks north of our area and brings a mix to rain event Sunday night into Monday. There may be some icing involved in that system but details need to be worked out.

TODAY (CHRISTMAS DAY): Variably cloudy. Chance of a passing snow shower in the morning except mix/rain shower Cape Cod midday. An additional passing snow flurry is possible in the afternoon mainly north of I-90. Highs 35-42. W to NW 10-20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clouds decrease. Lows 12-19. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Clouds increase. Highs 22-29. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Light snow develops. Lows 15-22 evening, rising slowly overnight. Wind variable to NE under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Cloudy with some light snow in the morning, favoring Boston south and west. Partial clearing afternoon. Highs 24-31. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 16-23. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 32-39. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Snow/mix/rain potential. Lows 30-37 then a slow temperature rise. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Cloudy with a chance of rain in the morning. Breaking clouds in the afternoon. Highs 38-45. Wind variable to SW 5-15 MPH becoming W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts in the afternoon.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 30 – JANUARY 3)

A snow shower threat December 31. A light snow or mix threat January 1 or 2. Otherwise, a mainly dry and cold pattern to end 2025 and start 2026.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 4-8)

Variable but overall near normal temperatures with a couple disturbances to bring some unsettled weather, but no indication of major storms at this time.

  1. So yes, contrary to what was mentioned on the previous post comments section…

Saturday is not a miss. It’s not a major snow event. It was never expected to be. There will be areas that see very little snowfall from it. This is the nature of a system in a dry environment that has a low center passing to the south. There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that it’s a “miss, because it would have been snow”. That is just simply NOT the case. I have said this now so many times…

The idea of snow missing and rain hitting on a routine basis is a false notion.

  2. Thanks TK !

    Merry Christmas to all !!!!

15 years ago, our daughters had us up 2-3 hrs ago, now, we’ll be the ones waking them up in a couple hours 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Between being up late wrapping and setting out presents and then getting up with kids, Xmas eve was à low sleep niğht. Merry Christmas!

  3. Good morning and thank you TK

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate.

32 here after low of 28.

I was hopelessly lost on this one. Lucky to get it on 5.

  4. This is the gloomiest Christmas Day I can remember. After I returned from breakfast I decided to turn my indoor candles back on.

If only we had a nice snow cover to take the edge off. 😉

    1. It is very dark here as well!

Anyone seeing any flakes? Radar says it’s snowing , but NOTHING is reaching the ground, not here anyway.

    2. Not even close to gloomy here. We had a nice period of mood snow, now a sun/cloud mix.

I think many cloudy, wet ones we had when I was a child were far more “gloomy” than today. Today is beautiful.

  5. Another issue with me is when I see C-1” I used to think on the positive side that maybe close to 0.5” or at least .25”. 🙂

It seems nowadays Boston can’t even get the coating! Like yesterday it never sticks. 🙁

    1. It does snow in Boston and it does stick there. Don’t use recent history as “always”. It’s not even close to correct.

  6. Interesting observation.

Where I live in JP the altitude is about 71 feet. I went to Brookline to pick up Chinese Food last night. There was nothing but spotty coatings left here and there down here. The path to Brookline took my by Larz Andersen Hill, altitude 290 feet.
So the road I was on was perhaps 150 feet altitude and maybe 1/2 mile from my house. There was a SOLID coating covering all non-paved surfaces. It was pretty amazing to see that difference over a very short distance and a little more than double the altitude. Pretty cool.

  7. Thanks TK! I had a wonderful Christmas morning sunrise run along Buzzards Bay. I have four young adults – including 23 year old triplets – and they are all out of town this Christmas. So it is much more quiet than 15 years ago. This morning’s peace felt like
    A gift

    1. Good for you Jimmy. Enjoy your Saturday snow! 🙂 ❄️

I don’t believe Boston has even been in a Winter Storm Watch or Advisory so far.

  8. Going into December, the trend was “cold & dry”.

So far this month in Boston: cold & dry.

I do think Boston has a shot to reach about half the month’s long term average for snowfall depending on how things play out the next several days.

      1. When a model run sticks out like a sore thumb and is completely different than all other guidance, it’s a pretty decent clue. 🙂

  9. Merry Xmas and thank TK

Up on Pittston Maine and unreal amounts of snow. They got 12-15 yesterday and we got about 2-3 today.

    Simply amazing the difference.

  10. I did not initially put accumulations for Friday night / Saturday morning on my discussion & forecast today.

Basically 1 to 3 inches from New Bedford area westward through RI & eastern CT, and a coating to 1 inch across the remainder of the WHW forecast area.

Heavier snowfall (3+) will be confined to areas southwest of my coverage area for this blog.

    1. Who agrees with me on local TV?

Ch 4 – Dan Brown – same forecast as I have.
Ch 25 – Tucker Antico – who mentioned that the lights in the studio rattle when it’s windy outside – also agrees with me.
Ch 10 – Jeff Harrington – he and I have the same forecast.
      Ch 7 – A.J. Waterman – you guessed it – same forecast!

Looks like we’re all on the same page. 🙂

    1. Actually, he said IF there was a trend. He didn’t say there was a trend. There is no trend. It’s steady as she goes.

  11. Thanks TK and Merry Christmas everyone!

18z HRRR Kuchera Snow quite robust for my area in CT with up to 7” in Tolland County and 10” in western CT near JJ.

I realized this morning that I need to start paying more attention to this storm. Maybe not a huge difference in outcome in eastern MA but there has been a trend for higher totals further NE down this way. 48 hours ago it looked like maybe an inch here and the Winter Storm Watch was confined to southern Fairfield County. Now we have the entire western part of the state under a warning and advisories have been issued eastward into central CT. Would not be surprised if those are expanded further east in the morning.

  12. Chiefs lead the Broncos, 7-3. I doubt the Chiefs will win … they are a 2-touchdown underdog, but you never know.

A Broncos loss would be a significant help to the Pats.

    1. I read on the sutton fb page that the Sunday pats game is on fox and fox blacks lit verizon customers?

Does anyone know if it streams in case this is accurate

          1. The problem is that Verizon and Cox Media can’t come to an agreement.

People who live in Pittsburgh PA and have Verizon can’t get NBC.

            1. We have FiOS, but our cable comes out of Rhode Island, so we still get FOX-Providence.

Can I suggest over-the-air? Is FOX-Boston available OTA?

              1. It depends on your cable company. If you use Verizon, then Fox is not available in Providence.

To answer your question, Fox is available OTA.

                1. FOX 64 Providence is still airing on Verizon here in Taunton. I was just watching “Hell’s Kitchen”. Unless something happens between now and kickoff, I should be able to watch the Pats on Verizon on FOX out of Providence.

For those who can’t, maybe they can scramble to get an OTA antenna to pick up FOX 25.

              1. We don’t have a Comcast option. Fios has served me really well for years. We do have spectrum. I am not a fan of theirs.

    1. Yeah, we’ve always received both Boston and Providence stations. CBS comes in on WBZ Channel 4 and WPRI Channel 12. My hunch is that, as kickoff approaches, there will be a settlement between Verizon and Cox. Cox probably is using this Sunday’s Patriots game as leverage.

      1. This is what the media companies like Cox always do. They arrange the negotiations to take place at a critical time. For specific markets.

  13. Up until now, I assumed the game was on CBS as usual. Thanks Vicki for letting us know. I don’t do Facebook. Never have, never will.

WHW is the only social media platform I use. 🙂

  14. I drive into the winter wonderland Saturday when I visit my sister in Poughkeepsie- they are all
Excited and rightfully so. Great timing – a Christmas weekend snow storm
