Tuesday December 30 2025 Forecast (6:36AM)

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 30 – JANUARY 3)

We’re down to the final 2 days of 2025, and they will be cold ones. Today will be the windiest one as we’re under the back side of the circulation around a monster storm in Atlantic Canada. This was the system that brought us the unsettled weather yesterday. Today it brings us a strong wind, dry weather, and a chill, made more stinging by the wind. We’ll remain under the influence of the upper level trough that helped develop that storm into midweek. As we get ready to greet the coming year, a trough coming around the south side of the upper low will bring us some light snow or snow showers in the early hours of the first day of 2026. We should get through the evening hours and the count-down on Wednesday night without much happening, and winds by then will be lighter, although it will still be cold. Once the disturbance moves beyond our region Thursday, we’ll have a return of dry weather with continued cold into late week.

TODAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 25-32. Wind W 15-25 MPH, frequent gusts 25-35 MPH, occasional gusts 35-55 MPH – strongest in higher elevations of southwestern NH and central MA.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 13-20. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 27-34. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusts around 20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Snow showers or occasional light snow overnight – generally after midnight. Lows 13-20. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY (NEW YEAR’S DAY): Partly sunny. Morning snow showers possible. Highs 24-31. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 11-18. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 22-29. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 11-18. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 25-32. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 4-8)

Watching January 5-6 for a clipper low potential and the very end of the period for the potential for a more formidable low pressure threat. The first one would most likely bring a light snow threat. With medium range uncertainty I cautiously lean toward a track mostly south of our region for the second threat.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 9-13)

Variable temperatures averaging around normal. Dry weather favored to start. Precipitation threat increases later period.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK

24 this morning and that is the low.

    Ocean: 44

GDPS good looking storm set up GONE with 0z run last night. So much for Dr. Choen”s favorite model.

    Wordle::4

NFL MVP: Stafford had a Stinker last night. Will that divert any votes to Drake Maye???? Hope so.

  2. From Meteorologist Mike Masco
NYE/NYD clipper likely brings light snow region-wide with redevelopment potential toward Boston.

  3. Last evening, we walked to the entrance of Central Park, NY and decided to take a 45 min horse carriage ride around the park.

The person driving the carriage was knowledgeable, so he was good at pointing out where the snowball fight scene in Elf was. I knew that one, lol. He named another dozen or so that my wife and daughters knew 🙂 from other movies.

Didn’t know they had some restaurants on the periphery of the park. Lots of runners/joggers/pet walkers.

The guy at the end said this particular entrance to the the park had a great view of the ball drop at midnight on new years without having to fight a million people to view it. So, that was cool. It was also cool to walk that street, oh, a little less than a mile and go from right at Times Square to the quieter, calm of Central Park.

    1. What great fun. I’d love a carriage ride around the park. I remember going to Tavern on the Green when we visited nyc but that was many years ago.

I was wondering if you’d be there to see the ball drop. What a special trip.

  4. Stephon Diggs likely to be arraigned on charges of strangulation and assault. Happened earlier this month. Arraignment is scheduled for 2nd week in January.

      1. An arraignment is scheduled. The assault charge would be a misdemeanor but a strangulation charge would likely constitute a felony.

        1. Of course nothing has been decided except court documents have been sealed or impounded which means we just about nothing.

          1. 🙂 🙂 🙂

So sad. I hope this was a false allegation. We’ll be following this one for sure. IF he’s guilty, I’d toss him from the team, but he is due his day in court. Hopefully
he is NOT guilty. Sure hope so!!!!

            1. Given the arraignment date and the time it takes to go to court, if it gets that far, it will be a while before we know much.

There are always several sides to a story and I’d say at this point, we know very little.

  5. Hopefully false with the diggs situation we need him out on the field and with what these other wrs get away with. It sounds like there was a fight involving several people. Find it weird its coming out now instead of early in December. I wonder if he did anything really wrong. If u go in to try and break up a fight sometimes getting yourhand just on the neck can constitute these charges even if u are trying to break the fight not wanting to be part of it. That or misidenty or false accusation. Nfl has let other players play through legal cases like this but since its the pats groger will likely force thier hand

    1. As I stated above, we know very little and you are right he may have gotten involved in something for reasons we do not know or even falsely accused.

Probably on advice of his attorney, he has and will say nothing. In any case, no way will it be settled before the season is over. It would be best if Roger, the Pats, and anyone else stay out of it. If he is found guilty one day, then the NFL and Pats should weigh in.

  6. Wouldn’t worry about that right now as future court appearances can be pushed up . He does have a History & we all ( who follow football) knew that , hoping it’s cleared up & is innocent.

  7. With regard to Stephon Diggs:

Can the NFL Commissioner step in and literally END his season (suspension) until his case is adjudicated or charges dismissed?

    1. No, although they could try but it would not be a smart move to even try. At this point Diggs has not been formally charged. The arraignment is not for another 3 weeks. Even after that, as SSK pointed out, Diggs is guilty of absolutely nothing.

    2. Kind of..there’s a commissioners exempt list where the commissioner can put players on paid leave while charges are pending for a violent crime. This happened with Jabril Peppers last year. All of those charges were eventually thrown out so perhaps they’ll be less willing to go this route….

  8. Arraignment date: Friday January 23
AFC Championship Game: Sunday January 25

Let us hope that, assuming we make it, Diggs will be able to join the team in time to suit up and play. I imagine he would be allowed to arrive at the (away) stadium and play at any time during the game.

Of course it’s at Gillette, it shouldn’t be an issue.

  9. As one of our news anchors in CT said yesterday Mother Nature’s confetti to ring in the new year. She is referring to the flakes falling as we ring in the new year.

  10. My one and only comment regarding Diggs is it needs to go through the process. And yes, innocent until proven guilty. Our society (for a long time now) assumes guilty until proven innocent. That is the opposite of what our justice system states and nobody should be doing it. I have nothing further to say on it. We’ll see what happens.

Weather: Reviewing stuff now and will comment again soon!

    1. I agree with your comment on Diggs and actually he has not been formally charged with anything. At the arraignment, he will be charged; his rights will be explained; and he’ll be asked how he pleads … all on 1/23.

  11. 3 global models, 3 different solutions from each other and different from yesterday’s regarding the “big storm threat around January 9”, which isn’t actually a threat because we can’t determine it that far out.

If you want today’s 12z op runs, which I wouldn’t use either, but just as an example, one has a weak storm passing to our south with maybe some mix around here, and two models have a Lakes Cutter (one further east than the other).

Wonder what the hype-masters have to say about that. Well, I’m sure they’d say “it’s wrong” because it doesn’t verify a wish-cast.

They go about this so opposite to the correct way. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to do it correctly, in terms of analysis, etc. The results of that, right or wrong, will speak for themselves.

  12. It’s cold out there! I broke a record getting the trash and recycling out to the curb! 🙂

I put the flagpoles back after taking them out for the Wind Advisory. I always fly the USA flag on one mast with another flag on the second mast. Today and tomorrow, I am proudly flying my alma mater “Vanderbilt” flag as my Commodores face Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl from Tampa tomorrow noon. Vanderbilt goes for a school-record 11th victory in a historic football season!

    Anchor Down!

Temperatures at the NWS/Norton are running -4.2 degrees from average for December.

    1. I gotta wheel up trash & recycle bins later tonight at which time the wind should be a little less potent.

      1. Brutal winds down here today . Been taking all of the Xmas decorations down today early as I have a cleaning company doing a top to bottom cleaning Saturday as we prepare for the tough weeks ahead .

  13. Thanks TK. Agree with all your pattern thoughts. And yep, the “big storm” potential for next week is completely gone on today’s runs. It could come back, or more likely today’s runs aren’t quite right either and we end up with something in between that could still potentially open the door at least to something minor-moderate. But better winter storm chances remain beyond about 1/12 IMO. From a big picture perspective, I would say I probably have higher confidence in the week 3 pattern than the week 2 pattern right now.

  14. Part of the problem for getting a winter storm next week is that the Pacific remains very hostile, and California will continue to get blasted by storm after storm. The Pacific pattern by mid January may become considerably more favorable. You don’t need a total shutdown of Pacific energy for it to snow in SNE. In fact, you kinda want some southern stream Pacific energy in particular. But right now it’s still too much of an onslaught. The PNA has to relax, at least a little.

Also just saw this news from basically my own backyard. Unfortunately, something like this seems to happen just about every year around this time. I’ve been up Baldy twice and it’s a challenging but perfectly doable hike in summer. But by way of where it is relative to many millions of people, the mountain has way too much exposure to people who have no business being on it, especially this time of year when I wouldn’t even think about venturing above the snow line on the best of days… same thing happens every year back east on Mt. Wash…

    1. Tragic. Was there any snow left on the mountain? I know near by ski areas were closed as the snow was wiped out by rain and warmth.

      1. The highest terrain for sure, the area of the trail they fell off up to the summit is all about 9000-10000 ft. Not much snow below that though, much to the chagrin of the resorts, as these have definitely been water-laden but warm systems overall.
