DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 31 โ JANUARY 4)
The final day of 2025 will be less windy than the penultimate day of the year was, but it will be a cold one, with dry conditions. Expect some cloudiness to interrupt the sun at times with an approaching trough. This evening as we get set to welcome 2026, we’ll have clouds increasing as a clipper system rounds the bend of a trough moving in and somewhere toward and mainly after midnight, snow will break out across the region, resulting in some accumulation (least northwest, more to the southeast), but not a major event. This tapers off to snow showers as low pressure starts to redevelop just offshore and moves away prior to noon on New Year’s Day. From Thursday afternoon through the coming weekend, the story will be cold and dry weather as high pressure moves in and delivers an abundance of polar air. A storm system is likely to pass well south of our area on Sunday with a shield of high clouds filtering the sun.
TODAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 27-34. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusts around 20 MPH.
TONIGHT: Becoming cloudy. Snow late evening / overnight – a coating to 2 inches except 2 to 4 inches southeastern MA and southern RI. Lows 14-21. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY (NEW YEARโS DAY): Partly sunny. Morning snow showers possible. Highs 24-31. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 11-18. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 22-29. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 11-18. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 25-32. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 11-18. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Sun and high clouds. Highs 25-32. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 5-9)
Watching January 5-6 for a clipper low potential. Later-period threat has trended to less of a threat with some uncertainty in the overall set-up. Temperatures mostly below normal, but may moderate late-period.
DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 10-14)
Variable temperatures averaging around normal. While the pattern looks a little more active for precipitation, there are no strong indications of major storminess at this point.
Thank you TK!

A little snow to ring in the New Year!
Snowfall Standings on last day of the year
NY 7.2
BOS 4.3
A chance for BOS to close the gap a little bit with the system tonight. This could change but it looks like NY will stay in the lead till mid January.
Thank you TK!
My thank you extends beyond your forecast for just today. It is really the thinking and work you put into the daily forecast for each day of the year. I have learned a lot from you about the weather. (Not excluding others who have contributed to my learnings.)
Thank you again, Longshot.
Indeed!!!
๐
No way to say it better. Thank you, TK, so very much.
Thank you too, Longshot, and everyone in the WHW family that TK has created.
100% agree. Thank you TK!
Agree, absolutely! Thank you!
Wordle 3. Thanks for another year of personalized forecasts TK ๐
Wow! Great Job!!
Awesome, Julie!!
Thanks TK and thank for always being there for us weather wise. You never miss a day forecasting!
Theme seems to be cold and dry.
Thanks TK.

YAY!! What’s up in NYC today?
Weโre back ๐
Wicked, the play, was really good !!
Then, we took our time for dinner and then drove home, arriving around 11:30am.
Our small town, looks even smaller now :), which is just fine with me. ๐
11:30pm
Welcome home. What a wonderful trip you had.
Thanks Vicki !
Thanks, TK.
It’s quite the streak that Philip reminds us of every day. The periodic light snow events – reminiscent a bit of last year – remind us that it can snow. But the weather gods thus far won’t allow for heavy snow in Boston. It’s not a curse. It’s simply the way things have played out meteorologically.
I do like the cold and sunny days, though.
Thanks for all that you do here TK!
I got Wordle in 3 today.
Great! 2nd 3 of the day to go with a bunch of 4s. A good day for one and all. ๐ ๐
So, yet ANOTHER clipper passes to our North. Sounds like a broken record. And yes, I am well aware that they don’t ALL
pass to our North, just seems like it at times and this is one of those times. ๐

Vrabel to speak about Diggs at 1:10 PM today live.
On TV?
As I understand it, yes.
Thank you. Will try to catch it.
Iโd like permission to come aboard the 4 car please.
I’ll grant it. ๐
Thank you sir!!
Welcome aboard!
Thank you, TK., for today and every day. And for your friendship.
26 up from 20.
Iโm hoping the snow wonโt interfere with the firing of Suttonโs Big Ben cannon at midnight.
โ”Big Ben” was one of four cannons received from the U.S. Government by Sutton after the Civil War to be used as monuments to commemorate and honor the local soldiers who fought and died in the Civil War.
Three of the cannons are fixed monuments; two are located at the entrance of the Town Hall with the third located on Mateychuk Square in the Village of Manchaug.โ
Manchaug, reminds me of the real Indian Name of Webster Lake.
Formal Name: Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg
Meaning: “You fish on your side, I fish on my side, nobody fishes in the middle” or “fishing place at the boundaries”.
Common Names: Webster Lake or Lake Chaubunagungamaug (meaning “fishing place at the boundary”)
My brother and future wife attended Nichols college. When I visited, weโd go to a restaurant on the lake. I learned to say the name then. Thanks for the memory and smile.
My Grand Mother taught me that at a very young age.
I work with a guy whose Alma mater is Nichols College.
VERY SMART GUY.
My mother spent part of her youth in Worcester. She taught me this name when I was young.
๐
Cool. Always fascinates me.
Do you remember when he graduated??
On this last day of 2025 I just say thank you to TK for doing this blog. I enjoy talking weather with all of you and sometimes sports. I look forward to continue to do that in 2026 and I look forward to reading TK’s predictions for 2026 as well as other people’s predictions. One of my predictions Boston’s 6 inch snow drought will end between January 15th – 25th. Maybe one of my predictions will be right in 2026.
I am incapable of making a prediction, but here’s one.
I predict that in 2026 there WILL be Weather, whether we like it or not.
I’m with you on this bold prediction. I also think that clouds, sunshine, rain, and temperature swings will be in our future. The only thing I’m uncertain of is heavy snow.
๐ ๐ ๐
I hope we/I get to see HEAVY SNOW at least once this Winter. Right now it is a fading memory!!!!
I do it for fun. If I get one prediction for the year right I am happy.

The ww advisories have expanded some off Cape.
I think I just saw one pop up here. Am cooking up a few fun New Yearโs Eve munchies so forgot to check.
Just south of Boston all of RI northeastern CT Worcester area.
Vrabel’s comments were solid and pretty predictable. He spoke to the Diggs situation and also the assault allegations against Christian Barmore which came as a surprise today.
1) Pats focused on Miami.
2) Diggs and Barmore expected to play as of now.
3) Have to let the legal process play out.
4) Vrabel has had no conversations with the league.
5) Doesn’t see this as a distraction.
He did mention a couple of times that neither player has been formally charged yet.
Darn. I of course forgot. Iโll look for recording.
And thank you for the important points
Iโm only going to say one more comment on this as I donโt want this taking over weather . I am going to take yesterdayโs comments back , I really feel that Roger is going to suspend both players before Sundays game & if so both guys eliminated from playoffs . If this happens & Collinโs out , moving forward is not impossible, but it will be extremely difficult with Diggs & Collinโs out !!!
Always possible.
Always possible, but I don’t see it happening.
Patriots are SCREWED without Diggs.
I wouldnโt think so. If the NFL suspended people because of any allegations before their day in court with no evidence, thereโd be tons of players suspended every year.
I agree. If they have their day in court and are found guilty, then that is a different story.
Found our advisory.

One of the weather experts on X has spoken. Winter Is Over! For entertainment purposes.
From Ralphs Weather OBS
I wouldnt be shocked if we dont get anymore snow this winter. Just saying. This winter is different but It would fit the storyline for 2020s. It wouldn’t surprise me.
My goodness, that sounds like a silly statement, unless it’s coming from the Gulf Coast. ๐

A nice little 1-3 system to ring in the new year
Snowfall forecasts: https://ibb.co/Swv8NF5V
Have a happy new year, everyone.
Breaking News : I heard the end of it . Will not be put on exemption list until there is an arraignment
The both of them
Makes sense. As I said above – if the NFL suspended people over allegations youโd have tons of players suspended every year. Diggs has a history of being a bad person but you still have to let the law play out regardless of his past. Unless there was audio/video proof, NFL offices hands are tied because of the players union.
Iโll be at BI .
Sorry lol . DR I 100% agree with you
A couple of “in-the-know” attorneys weighed in on the news yesterday suggesting that it would be best for the league to go very slowly on these.
Putting players on an exemption list for a misdemeanor would turn into a league nightmare. Putting a player on an exemption list for a felony before being formally charged is not good PR.
I wonder if Diggs’ attorneys will attempt to extend the arraignment date.
I think theyโll only petition to extend if the Patriots make a deep run under the auspices of extenuating work travel hardships.
Absolutely agree.
Nice little snowfall in Buffalo

JPD…
I saw earlier the comment about another clipper passing to our north but I didn’t have a chance to reply.
This is a case where a clipper passes to the north, is a complete snow event, and produces more snow than if it passed to the south. The moisture shield to its north is very limited. Much better to the south and cold enough for snow.
This is a good example of why I often say not everything is so easily defined. A low passing to your north is not 100% of the time “rain”, just as a low passing to your south is not 100% of the time “snow”.
It always comes down to each individual synoptic situation, regardless of our “rules of thumb” which are helpful, but with limits.
I understand and have seen this before.
If you look at my Post, I don’t believe I ever mentioned RAIN. ๐
I don’t think anyway.
Cheers and thanks
Actually I would prefer one on a track to pass North, but ignite a storm “just” South of Long Island or even right on LI if cold enough.
You didn’t. I was just using this as an opportunity to point those things out for the benefit of everybody.
No Worries. Thanks.
To JpD,
What is the difference in the meaning between your post and mine?

They have different titles.
They do indeed. OH well I’ll never figure out the NWS!!! ๐
And different time stamps.
Also they seem to have different end dates โ unless the second one is a typoโฆ
Thanks, TK!
I was thinking earlier that we are just a couple of hours away from being a quarter of the way through the 21st Century!
It seems like it was just Y2K! ๐
But, I’ve always tried to be a “Live For Today” person.
Anyway, Happy 2026, y’all!
Cheers!
A very happy new year to you also.
I almost feel bad for those non-met pages that have been going nuts about the crazy “December to Remember” and the gangbusters start to 2026 for sustained cold and snow in the Northeast.
While it’s true we’ve had a cold December (overall, not without brief mild interludes as is typical), snow is variable – below normal in some areas, above in others. Also fairly typical unless you have a broad scale persistent pattern.
January’s first 2 weeks do not offer a whole lot of hope for classic snow set-ups in the I-95 Corridor.
I said I “almost” feel bad for them, but I actually don’t feel bad for them. They set themselves up for this. Ah well!
I have already forgotten the “December to Remember”. NOTHING memorable about it. NOT in the slightest!!!!
I mean in some areas it was, in some ways, but you could say that about every month – somewhere … it’s called “weather”. ๐
Indeed.
I don’t think the cold was memorable. Nice, yes. I loved it. But I think 2017 was colder and snowier. That’s only 8 years ago.
The only thing I will say about Barmore and Diggs is that these are serious allegations. While the 2 men are innocent until proven guilty, I think that whitewashing it, as Vrabel sort of did when he said he was “not at all disappointed” about the distractions, makes light of a BIG problem among quite a number of NFL players over the years. It’s one of many reasons I don’t watch the sport much. While relatively small, still there’s a disproportionate number of really vile (former) players. NFL pays lip service to the problems of domestic violence or other assault and battery, rape, and sexual harassment. But not nearly enough, in my view.
