Thursday April 2 2026 Forecast (7:27AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 2-6)

Today we find ourselves with chilly and raw weather under a solid overcast as high pressure in eastern Canada, having driven a cold front southwestward by quite a distance, provides us with a flow of maritime polar air. A disturbance passing by this morning brings additional rainfall before that departs and we’re just left with patchy leftover drizzle from midday on. High pressure to our north slips eastward on Friday while low pressure moves through the Great Lakes into east central Canada. This allows that frontal boundary to make the long trek back to the northeast, and while we start the day much like today ends, it does turn warmer from southwest to northeast (modified in some coastal areas of course). Other than maybe an early-morning shower, we can expect rain-free conditions on Friday with eventual breaking clouds. Looks like a “go”, at least in terms of the weather, for the Red Sox home opener Friday afternoon. We’ll see if it’s a “go” for a good performance! The mild air hangs around for Friday night and early Saturday before high pressure follows the departing low in eastern Canada. This drives a frontal boundary back to the south and we chill-down again from northeast to southwest during the day on Saturday. The cycle repeats as we go through Saturday night and Sunday (Easter for those celebrating), but this time the next low’s timing is a little faster through the Great Lakes and into Canada. This does drag the front back through as a warm front at some point Sunday morning to midday, before the cold front quickly follows. This doesn’t leave a lot of time for warming up / clearing out, though some areas can see a bit of sun before showers arrive with the cold front. This front will clear the region with chilly, dry weather moving in for Monday.

TODAY: Overcast. Areas of fog until midday. Periods of rain this morning, can be mixed with sleet in parts of central MA higher elevations and southern NH. Patchy drizzle this afternoon. Temperatures decline to 34-41 then remain steady. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, strongest along the coast.

TONIGHT: Overcast. Areas of fog. Patchy drizzle. Chance of a shower before dawn. Temperatures steady 36-43. Wind NE to E up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Cloudy morning. Clouds break for partial sun afternoon. Highs 48-55 coast, 56-63 inland, occurring mid to late afternoon. Wind E to SE up to 10 MPH morning, shifting to SW 5-15 MPH afternoon.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 47-54. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partial sun early, then mainly cloudy. Chance of a shower. Highs 48-55 South Coast, 55-62 elsewhere in the morning, then falling into the 40s from northeast to southwest during the afternoon. Wind SW to variable, shifting to N and NE 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Patchy drizzle. Lows 37-44. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Cloudy with patchy drizzle and fog early, a few breaks of sun possible mid to late morning, then mainly cloudy with showers likely from northwest to southeast midday on. Highs 48-55 South Coast, 56-63 elsewhere, occurring around midday. Wind E under 10 MPH early, shifting to SW increasing to 5-15 MPH, then shifting to NW at similar speeds later in the day.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Breaking clouds. Lows 37-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Sun / cloud mix. Highs 50-57. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 7-11)

Springtime pattern of changeable weather. Upper disturbance moves through April 7 with a few rain / sleet / snow showers followed by high pressure and fair weather the next day with temps below normal. Fair, milder April 9. Cold front moves through with shower chance then turning cooler again April 10 before a quick rebound and milder weather again at the very end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 12-16)

Up and down temperatures, a couple of unsettled periods of weather during mid month.

And, we are piling up some nice rainfall amts, spread out over time.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK

38 here this morning and that is the low for the night.

    Ocean: 40

    Wordle: 6

  3. Thank you TK.

Onshore breeze making it feel more chilly. Currently 37F.

Thinking I won’t make it to 40 F. Over / under for today is 39F.

    1. It’s Disgusting!!! as MOST Springs are around here.
Certainly makes us appreciate a nice day when it comes along, IF it comes along. πŸ™‚

The one Season of the year I TOTALLY HATE!!!!!
      SPRING SUCKS!!!!!

  4. Massachusetts drought map shows some improvement in the northeast section of central MA and to some extent an area south of Boston. No improvement on the Cape and Islands. As is often the case,, Nantucket is stuck at a D3 drought level due to high demand and little supply.

Just for the sake of citing the source, these maps are the result of a partnership between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and several federal agencies including the NOAA.

      1. Nice 4. I am the caboose again. Had 4 straight guesses which were the wrong word!!!! 6th guess finally got it.

  5. Thank you, TK. What is Easter looking worse and 3 days out probably will remain lousy weather

We are at 37. Down from an early morning 44. We did have some meaningful rain with 0.56 yesterday and so far 0,83 for both days. I now politely request it STOP

    1. I chose 5 words before I got the right one. I NEVER seem to choose the correct one when there are many choices!!!!!

  6. Thank you TK!

Wordle: 5 but should have been a 4 after making a stupid mistake. Grrrr! Great job to all who are on the train!

  7. Thanks, TK!

    A very raw 39 degrees.

1.01″ in the bucket in the last 24 hours.

We’ve had more than 9″ of precipiation throughout the last 40 days, including what fell in the Blizzard.

    1. And unfortunately a lot of that ran off over frozen ground. Even when the surface started to thaw, the sub was still frozen.

Probably about 1/3 the benefit of what the potential was.

  8. I forgot to comment on this earlier ….

watching Artemis take off last night, was awesome and nerve-wracking.

Those of us old enough to have watched Challenger and then Columbia’s tragic re-entry, I wonder if our hearts beat a little faster on these takeoffs than the younger generation.

Anyway, the velocity tracker blew me away, watching the speed of that increase.

    1. I still cannot watch for that exact reason. Mac and I were just home from a visit to the OB for our third baby. I turned the TV on and watched as the world stood still. I called to Mac in the other room and asked if that was supposed to happen.

  9. As I mentioned previously, TODAY is one of my favorite kinds of early to mid spring days. Love the cold, raw, maritime air feel.

I love needing to put the hat & jacket on to walk.

I love going on photo shoots when it’s damp & drizzly. You get some great photo ops with water droplets on various things.

Just drove through a batch of showers on the way home from work, but those are fleeting. Back to just drizzle and overcast soon.

I’ll have more to say on the weather ahead a bit later. πŸ™‚

  10. Next update I’m probably going to lower my Sunday high temps a couple of notches.

I think Boston has a 55 in them, but nothing over that.

20 to 25 degrees cooler than some of the projections out there a few days ago, but this is why I’m always skeptical of warm model numbers at this time of year, especially when there’s any type of frontal system anywhere remotely in the region.

A few days ago I figured 60s were possible, and the trend has edged downward from there.

Not only that, it probably starts out in the upper 30s to lower 40s that morning before a brief “warm-up” before the cold front arrives. And the timing, as I had thought might be the case, is a little quicker. You may recall I cautioned this was something I was monitoring. Well, yes.

If you celebrate Easter and planned on going for a walk in warm sunshine, it’s not happening in our part of the world. πŸ˜‰

  11. Wordle 4…

We get to warm up again only to have the temperature rug pulled out from under us.

    1. I absolutely love this weather pattern. πŸ™‚

You’re allowed to call me crazy, because it’s true anyway….

      1. I personally like the changes we see in March and early April. It’s a roller coaster. Somehow it makes me think that Mother Nature has the final word.

      2. You can have it! IT SUCKS!!! big time!!! Have at it and enjoy. I am MISERABLE!!!!

I just walked down to the center to pick up a few things.
I have to say that today ranks probably #1 or awfully close to it on the MISERY METER!!!! Just a BRUTALLY AWFUL day!!!
        Just horrible!!!!!!

I can’t stand this weather!!! I really can’t stand it!!!!
And if you really want to know how I feel about it?

IT BLOWS CHUNKS and SUCKS to BOOT!!!!!

Can I jump ahead 2 months? Oh wait, better make that 3!!!!

                1. Whatever it is, it is. This is our climate here in New England. It’s highly influenced by a “little” body of water called THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. πŸ˜‰

    1. πŸ™‚

I’ve rediscovered today how much I love the face-hit by drizzle. (Yes, I am serious.)

        1. Sorry. I like what I like. And this type of weather has NEVER bothered me. I like it. I love hot humid weather too. And I love it when the wind chill is sub zero and I’m walking in it (appropriately dressed of course). I’ve always been this way. I’m a child of earth and atmosphere. I’m connected. πŸ™‚

  12. A little weather related tidbit from today’s Boston Herald:

On April 2, 1887 11 inches of snow fell on Boston Common. Another 4 inches accumulated on April 18 that year. ❄️
