Sunday April 5 2026 Forecast (8:30AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 5-9)

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it today! If you have outdoor plans early today – not the greatest weather awaits as we are still stuck in the wedge of cold and damp air ahead of an advancing warm front with areas of fog and drizzle, isolated to scattered showers, and temps hanging out between the upper 30s and lower 40s. Even when the front goes by, while it does warm up to the upper 40s and 50s (may touch 60 in some locations), we keep lots of clouds and introduce more rain as a cold front approaches from the northwest during the day. If there’s a bit of good news to be found, it’s that any rain we get is beneficial for easing abnormally dry conditions and areas of drought that remain in the region – just not great timing. The rest of the forecast remains pretty much unchanged. In summary, we get a cool, breezy, but dry day behind this system on Monday before an upper low pressure trough and associated surface low pressure area move through on Tuesday with air cold enough that we need to include the chance for some sleet and snow along with the rain showers that occur. The track of the surface low will determine whether or not we see some partial clearing between precipitation bursts (a track a bit further north) or a more solid overcast with more prolonged precipitation (a track a bit further south). I’ll try to pin-point that by the next update. High pressure builds in for midweek with cool and dry weather Wednesday and a warm-up on Thursday as the high slides offshore.

TODAY: Mainly cloudy. Areas of fog and drizzle morning. Isolated to scattered showers first becoming more widespread late morning through afternoon. Highs 48-55 South Coast and NH Seacoast, 55-62 elsewhere, occurring around midday. Wind E under 10 MPH early, shifting to SW increasing to 5-15 MPH, then shifting to NW at similar speeds later in the day.

TONIGHT: Breaking clouds. Lows 37-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Sun / cloud mix. Highs 50-57. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 33-40. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Periods of light rain, potentially mixed with sleet and / or wet snow. Highs 36-43. Wind variable to N 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 26-33. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 47-54. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, shifting to SW late.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65, cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 10-14)

A low pressure area passes to our north with its cold front bringing a slight shower April 10 but mild weather ahead of the front. April 11-12 weekend starts cool and dry, ends warmer and dry. Disturbance may bring a shower about April 13 before fair weather returns at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 15-19)

Overall pattern looks drier with one interruption from a disturbance and shower chance at mid period. Temperatures variable but averaging close to normal.

  1. Thank you for being willing to write a new post today with all that you said in last post.

Misty walking the shore and a little cooler than I thought it would be. I find the changes in weather at the this time of year, to be fascinating and even entertaining.

  2. I have Sox tickets today—when is the best window where they try to get this in? With San Diego not coming back this year I imagine they’ll play through if st all possible.

  3. Thanks, TK!

Happy Easter to all who observe!

Last week, The Wayback Machine stopped at Easter Sunday, 1970 (March 29) when the area had a 6″ snowfall. Today, we fast forward to 1976 when Easter was quite late in the calendar. It was April 18 and the temperatures were in the upper 80s and low 90s. Easter Monday was also Patriots Day in 1976 and the Boston Marathon was run when areas had temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. The race has been dubbed “The Run for the Hoses” because spectators sprayed the runners with hose water along the race course. 2026 is the 50th anniversary of that race.

    1. I recall both. 1976 was during our conference month in Boston. Folks from around the world came expecting cool weather and were very unprepared

  4. Thanks TK and Happy Easter everyone!

We were at Killington yesterday to get some spring skiing in while we still can and it was a beautiful day with temps in the 50’s and sunny skies. I overdressed and probably could have skied in a light windbreaker. By the time we stopped in Springfield on the way back for gas however, it was down to 40. Not too often it gets colder like that as you head south but that cold marine air backing in was noticeable last evening.

Still had 82 trails open at Killington yesterday but snow was getting thin and slushy with a few bare spots on some of the connector trails. Moving forward, they will be closing some of their base areas and reducing operations but there is a long way yet to go in the season there. They have piled about 30 feet of snow up on Superstar. We’ll see if they can succeed in their annual quest to make it to June 1st this year.

    1. I still consider today very nice – but that kind of goes without saying if you’re me.

  5. We celebrated Christmas with my son and family. And birthday with son and granddaughter. Then we had an egg hunt for three grands. And just as we finished, the sky opened up. Perfect timing. Home from my oldest’s for a quick nap then heading back for Easter dinner.

  6. Thank you TK!

Wishing all who celebrate, a very Happy Easter! Decided to do a boiled dinner with smoked pork shoulder instead of a traditional ham. Was my dad’s favorite and I sure wish he was here and that he could have it again tomorrow fried up in a pan.
