DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 15-19)
Temperature antics early this morning: upper 40s to middle 50s just after sunrise in most of the region while Logan sits at 67 with a west wind blowing “heat island” air across the harbor to the airport. This spot won’t rise too much today before it goes the other way, while most other areas do rise notably before the back-door front that chills the coast first eventually starts to penetrate inland somewhat, particularly from the MA South Shore northward to the NH Seacoast. The cooler side of the air battling air masses will reside over most of our region then through tomorrow, with a quick attempted warm-up that evening into Friday before another push from the north and east sends us to the cooler side once again. A series of disturbances from the northwest also brings us shower and thunderstorm chances at times later today as well as Thursday and Friday. Most times will be rain-free, but several opportunities for wet weather exist. Any rainfall is good for ongoing abnormally dry / drought conditions and also in keeping fire danger in check as we are in prime brush fire season now. One adjustment to the forecast is for Saturday which appears it may have more northeast to east wind instead of north to northwest. This leads me to believe that cloudiness will be more dominant than it would otherwise have been. After that, low pressure moving through the Great Lakes will shift our wind to southerly on Sunday, pulling warmer air back in, but its approaching cold front also brings a shower and thunderstorm threat before that day ends – more precise timing TBD.
TODAY: Variably cloudy. A chance of a pop up shower and slight chance of an inland thunderstorm. Highs 57-64 South Coast, 65-72 MA South Shore and Cape Ann to NH Seacoast, 73-80 elsewhere, but likely turning sharply cooler at least NH Seacoast and eastern MA during the day. Wind SW 5-15 MPH likely shifting to NE and E at least NH Seacoast and eastern MA during the day.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of a shower. Occasional drizzle. Patchy fog. Lows 45-52. Wind NE 5-15 MPH coast and variable up to 10 MPH inland.
THURSDAY: Cloudy. Chance of showers and drizzle. Areas of fog. Highs 52-59 coastal areas and 60-67 inland. Wind E to SE up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Areas of fog. Lows 51-58. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms, favoring morning and midday. Highs 58-65 except cooler in some coastal areas. Wind S to variable 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers in the evening. Lows 45-52. Wind variable to E up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 52-59. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 45-52 evening, may rise overnight. Wind E shifting to S 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Showers and possible thunderstorms arrive west to east during the day. Highs 52-59 South Coast, 60-67 elsewhere. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 20-24)
A northwesterly air flow brings drier, cooler weather early to mid portion of next week as high pressure builds in and dominates for a few days, before a rain chance late week due to approaching low pressure.
DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 25-29)
Early and mid period wet weather chances before it dries out. Temperatures near to below normal.
NOTE!
When I wrote the blog above (before 7 a.m.), Logan was 67F.
I looked at the news ob after I posted it (7 a.m. ob) – wind shifted from west to east and the temp dropped to 53F.
As I said: “antics”. 🙂
I noticed that. 63 here, but expect that to go down probably fairly soon.
Thanks Tk

I don’t know why, I find today’s word kind of ho-hum.
Sometimes, I learn from what the word it is, but today, kind of blah.
I agree it is a ho-hum word, BUT if you 1st couple of guesses don’t yield any letters, then it might as well be the most difficult
word in the world. Happened to me today, but I finally got it.
Very true 🙂

That fog bank is not too far northeast of Boston and I’ll bet its coming with a major temp drop.
I would agree. We shall see.
And it is making steady progress to the SW.
Its 49F in Rockport and 51F in Hampton, NH
Fascinating day. And it’s 70 here
I see a 52 as close by as Nahant!!! 74 here.
Logan has dropped back to 70 with ese wind. should fall some more now.
Stratus deck taking 128S down Cape Ann…
Does it required an escort as a Wide Load?

I’m looking for a low boy to transport 50 tons. Think Mother Nature can assist

This is not a feeble sea breeze, this is BD.
It’s 50 F at Hampton Beach and 49 F at the summit of Mt Washington. And it’s 70 F at 5300′ on the Mt Washington auto road.
That is cool !!
Tremendous warm layer for April several thousand feet above us, thats why with any sun and a land breeze, the temps zoomed yesterday and to a degree, today.
Wordle 4. Took a while but I see what you mean about the word
very nice
Thank you.
Well done!
58 at the airport
75 here, a mere 6 miles away.
The chirping sparrows are active. I seems to have them in stereo You’d think they’d get tired of singing nonstop.
Putting hummer feeder out today ❤️
55 at Logan!!!!!!
Still 75 here!!! 20 degrees over 6 miles!!! Amazing!!!!
ENE wind at 17 mph!!!
That wind “should” get the cool air in here soon.
53 at the airport with ENE wind at 18MPH
Up to 76 here!!!!! TRULY AMAZING!!!!
72 here. I think the BD has arrived. 🙂 🙂 🙂 We’ll see if the temperature continues to fall. 4 degrees in no time at all.

Mid June in the majority of New England.
64 and cruising down at a steady pace!
Been up and down here all morning in Hingham 65-75. 66 right now. Meanwhile Hull is 48.
Thanks, TK.
Some Bay Area-like differences in temperature today.
I don’t know what to wear.
If you intend to be within a few miles of the ocean the rest of the day, prepare for chilly weather. I don’t think the S and SW wind bounces back like it did late yesterday afternoon.
Agreed
Down to 60 here from 76 45 min ago.
Logan’s 50F and Marlborough is 80F.
Thanks, TK!
82 now
84 max yesterday
Fun thunderboomer last night!
More exciting than the Red Sox game! 🙂
Love the line about the Sox 🙂
They are struggling for sure.
2nd and 3rd, 1 out, in the top of the 1st today and couldn’t get a run across.
Down 1-0.
Update:
Ahead 5-1
Nice article about the Crawford Path, which I know so well. I have a framed poster of the picture at the top of the article. It’s hanging in my bedroom.

When got down under 58, but now back up to a bit more than 59.
I think we have bottomed out.
Logan is at 50 BRRRR
Front has reached Norwood where it has dropped to 65.
54F and descending!
Good grief. 31 degrees lower than here at 85 down a degree from the high of 86
7-1 Sox lead top of 6th.
Updated weather ideas soon (gotta look at some stuff first while I sip a Honey Dew iced coffee). I treat myself about twice a month after a work day to something there – usually a coffee & some kind of treat. Today just an iced. Their coffee is consistently better than DD’s and McD’s (not that those 2 are bad – HD is just better).
Make that 9-1 …
51F and still falling.
brrrr
58 here
Logan is at 51, yet here in Quincy is now 66.
I’m just footsteps from Quincy Bay. I don’t get the large discrepancy. This occurred yesterday as well. TK mentioned that the North Shore would get the sea breeze first but is this typical all the time?
Still 82° down here at Tf Green.
77 here and some light rain
Sox win 9-5. 🙂
Good.
This will make my flight across the North Atlantic tonight a bit more pleasant. My father (and I) always said, when the Sox win, we sleep better. My Dad was a diehard fan, despite being from Baltimore. He loved Fenway Park. In the 70s, two ushers at Fenway were patients of his.
By the way, my phone says it’s 50F at Logan.

Can see the front/bdf on this loop.
The video is from radar scope. Is the line coming down from the NE the back door front? And if so, holding the cooler temps just east of here
https://streamable.com/4pfzer
That’s the front. The cooler air is advancing southwestward with it.
Thank You. It’s so cool.
What is the difference between that and a back door?
That is a back-door front. Coming from the NE.
Ohhhhh ok that’s what I thought and was wondering

Wonderful!
I’ve looked over the info…
In the immediate future (this evening): Most shower activity is in the southern half of the WHW region. Can’t rule out a thunderstorm, but mostly showers (and a few rainbows)!
Overnight: There might be a nice little cluster of showers and storms moving across areas south of I-90 with a vigorous disturbance in the overnight hours. Some of the high-res short range guidance has been showing this. Will monitor…
Short-range ( next few days): No real changes to the Thursday-Saturday outlook.
Medium range (Sunday into next week): Trending slightly faster timing for front from the west Sunday, which would mean not as warm, also wetter sooner rather than later. Will continue to stalk the trend on this one. Still looking dry and chilly for this time of year first half of next week.
Longer range: Strong indications of a -NAO late April to early May which makes me lean toward the cool side of normal in general. We may finally end up a bit wetter, which while being a thing people trend to frown on, it would be good news for battling the longer term dry spell and keeping pollen counts in check.
55 here…
69 here.

Another super night on the deck
Red Sox now 7-11.
Hundreds of 7-11 stores will be closing across the country this year.
They’ll end up over .500 this year.
Quite the storm moved through here the past hour in Coventry. Severe warned and produced an extensive period of wind, lightning/thunder and torrential rain.
Trying to get some sleep now as we leave on a flight for Florida at 7am. It’s been warmer in Hartford the last few days than Miami and that trend looks to continue tomorrow. Had to break down and turn the air conditioning on for a few hours tonight!
New post…
