Friday April 17 2026 Forecast (7:14AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 17-21)

A wave of low pressure passes by our region this morning and midday and as it moves offshore during the midday and afternoon hours it will pull a frontal boundary back to the south and return the maritime air mass to the entire region. The wettest weather in the form of scattered to numerous showers occurs this morning through midday before tapering off. I cannot rule out an embedded thunderstorm, favoring areas well west and southwest of Boston prior to the more stable marine air overtaking those locations. Enough drying may take place for some breaks of sun, particularly north and northwest of Boston, later. Maritime air remains dominant on Saturday with cloud cover abundant, but a lack of any precipitation. Temperatures on Saturday will be more uniformly cool through the region than they have been recently. Sunday, low pressure passing to our north will drag a trough and cold front through from west to east, bringing showery weather back to the region. Behind this front comes a pretty chilly air mass and that will be with us for Monday – Patriots Day – which will be impacted by the chill and a gusty breeze as we have our traditional Boston Marathon and late-morning starting Red Sox game. An upper level disturbance will bring lots of clouds back during the afternoon Monday with the potential for light showers of rain and snow. High pressure builds in for Tuesday with fair but continued cool weather.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy – early morning breaks of sun are most likely Cape Cod / late afternoon breaks of sun are most likely north of I-90. Showers likely region-wide morning through midday including the slight chance of a thunderstorm mainly well west and southwest of Boston. Highs 58-65, mildest inland areas. Wind variable up to 10 MPH shifting to NE.

TONIGHT: Variably to mostly cloudy. Lows 45-52. Wind variable to NE to E up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 52-59. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 45-52 evening, may rise overnight. Wind E shifting to S 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely mid morning to mid afternoon. A period of steadier rain later on. Highs 55-62. Wind S 5-15 MPH becoming variable.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy early with rain ending, then decreasing clouds. Lows 38-45. Wind variable to NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts overnight.

MONDAY – PATRIOTS DAY: Sun and passing clouds morning. Mostly cloudy afternoon including the chance of a rain or snow shower. Highs 45-52 occurring by midday with a slow fall probable after that. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Gradual clearing. Lows 33-40. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 22-26)

Trend for this period is for a blocking pattern to evolve with a tendency for unsettled and cool weather more dominant. Details TBD.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 27 – MAY 1)

Blocking pattern likely with our region on the cool side. Some unsettled weather but no indications of excessively wet weather.

  1. Thanks TK !

Turns out I was wrong in thinking that boundary would get back east late yesterday or into the early evening, never warmed up in marshfield or Boston or the north shore.

  2. I am at 49F. Thinking my over / under will be 55F today. Of course my batting average at forecasting temps on precipitation days is not always the best. I do too much 2nd guessing.

  3. It’s 61F now after an overnight low of 53F. We had just under 1/2″ of rain. The sun is out now.

    I got Wordle in 4.

  4. Thanks TK
First 90 degree temperature of the season yesterday at BDL. Last year the first 90 degree temperature was on June 4th.It doesn’t look like will be seeing a 90 degree temperature for a while.

  5. I was watching the local forecast here in CT yesterday evening and it was showing BOS in the 40s. Meanwhile you travel west on the Mass Pike it is summer time with temps up in the 80s and in some places hitting 90 degrees.

  6. Thanks, TK.

Upper 50s and mostly cloudy today, but abundant sunshine and no rain in the forecast, including long-range. Very little variation in temps: Between 58 and 62 during the day and 40 to 44 at night. This is the tranquil period here.

  7. Thanks Tk . All of the house windows are open as the house is very humid . I’m wearing shorts today

  8. Just reached my over / under for today, 55F. Thinking that NE winds will keep me there and after that the temps will drop. Maybe??
