DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 22-26)
An evolving blocking pattern – high pressure in Greenland, low pressure from Atlantic Canada to the waters east of New England – governs our weather through the coming weekend. Today, a disturbance moves into the region, producing lots of clouds and very limited rainfall as it is stretched and deflected southeastward, eventually to join the upper low to our east. That circulation will retrograde westward enough to bring a diurnal shower chance to eastern areas Thursday before ensuring drier Friday through the weekend. The next approaching low pressure area is deflected even further southwest of our region between late Saturday and early Sunday. All we’ll see of it is some varying amounts of cloud cover. Temperatures will run below the seasonal averages for this time of year throughout this forecast period.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Spotty light rain. Highs 46-53. Wind variable to E up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 37-44. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers – mainly NH Seacoast to eastern MA to RI – which can be mixed with small hail or graupel. Highs 56-63. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 37-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 35-42. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 51-58. Wind N 10-20 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 37-44. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 27 – MAY 1)
Blocking pattern continues but major features shift eastward, which allows moderating temperatures and continued dry weather early to mid period before wet weather chances increase later in the period as another low approaches from the west.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 2-6)
Blocking re-establishes with upper level low pressure over the region, which is a cool and unsettled pattern if it sets up as expected.

Gusty SW winds and they have special weather statements out for fire danger from 11am – 5pm.
All I know is, when we drive by farms where tractors were doing work in Maryland and VA and when anyone drives by on the campground, large amounts of dust follow in their wake, so, I’m pretty sure they are longer term dry down here.

So last summer I think it was Wx Watcher who brought up the earthquake off the coast of Russia that led to a brief but sharp warm up of Pacific Ocean temps that would affect jet stream. This led to record low dew points in Southern US and zero tropical activity in Gulf. It feels like that pattern continues – yesterday I was golfing on Fort Myers in 35 percent humidity and strong gusty NE winds. First time I didn’t sweat on a Florida golf course in the sun. Any thoughts on the extent of this pattern continuing?
The earthquake and its affect on the weather are above my pay grade 🙂
Right now, low humidity extends to the Deep South due to a blocky pattern which has sent a cool, much drier airmass, compared to a couple weeks ago with momentum all the way into Florida.
Glad it’s made for warm, but comfortable golfing weather in FL.

It did. Thank you. Hand was still numb overnight so I had a great sleep. Now that it’s no longer numb, My word for day is ouch. Alternating Motrin and Tylenol helps and it’s a perfect day to watch movies.

It’s a heat wave as we are up to 46 here. Break out the beach chairs!!
Your observation is the counter argument for why New England spring is less than desirable even when it’s running above avg temp wise.
Per time and date sunrise and sunset, the sun maxed at 60.1 degrees above the horizon in Boston minutes ago and it’s 46F. That happens too often in eastern New England.
While that happened yesterday here, 65 degrees above angle, high of 58F, it lasted 1 day.
It’s now 75F, destined to get close to 80F.
Just too many days in late March, April and int May at home where the high temp is less or significantly less than the max sun angle. Yuck.
Today is a good lesson that you do not need a northeast or east wind to be stuck in the 40s in April. South wind.
I am going to speak to defend our weather at this time of year.
Every time of year has its weather – the natural result of multiple large scale, mid scale, small scale / long term to short term factors.
We have peaks, transition times, valleys, transition times, etc.
I think we owe respect to transition times. This is one of those.
We cannot get from our mid winter dark chill to our high summer bright heat without a time of transition, and the same heading from the summer to the winter. Embrace these times. Embrace it all. Our atmosphere’s response to our planet’s differential heating by the sun is why we’re alive. It’s a gift – a very rare one in this universe.
This is why I will never ever EVER complain about the weather.
