SUMMARY…
In came the back-door cold front Friday morning and the cool ocean air along with it over southeastern NH and eastern MA. It has taken longer for the front and somewhat cooler air to push further west away from the coast. In fact, as of mid afternoon Friday, the temperature ranged from near 50 along the eastern coast of MA to near 90 in Hartford CT. Though a difference of nearly 40 degrees over about 200 miles, this is not all that unusual an occurrence for this part of the country at this time of year. Now as we get into evening area of low clouds and fog are coming in from the ocean and this will become more widespread during the later evening and tonight as the marine layer becomes established. This low overcast and areas of fog will burn off in most areas Saturday as the wind turns more to the south, but this southerly wind off the water just south of New England means that the low clouds will be much slower to break along the South Coast and it may never completely clear there. Temperatures respond and warm up inland but less quickly along the coast. By Sunday, a southwesterly wind flow means warmer for most areas except still somewhat cooler along the South Coast and especially across Cape Cod. A frontal system to the north and west of the region is expected to cause showers/thunderstorms in northern New England but none of those will reach southern areas as it looks now, meaning that Mother’s Day will be rain-free across southeastern New England. By Monday, this front pushes a little closer with a slight risk of a spot shower or storm but overall most of the activity should still remain to the west and north. By Tuesday, finally the front swings through as it is kicked along by a disturbance from the west. At the same time, remnant moisture from the first named tropical system of the year, Ana, will be making a close pass though most of its moisture should remain offshore just to the southeast. By the middle of next week look for a return to somewhat cooler and drier weather, with a slow warm-up commencing by the end of the week as high pressure dominates.

      1. He has that type of humor so gets a kick out of your titles. I’m usually too literal.

  1. Okay, so fog is likely in the morning… Any chance there’ll be at least an okay sunrise? I’m guessing not! My fiancΓ© and I are having our photos taken very early tomorrow morning and we were hoping for some good colors. Fog might be kind of pretty in a different way, though..

    1. Ohhhh I’m thinking fog could be very romantic. Everyone has sun etc. Best wishes to you both

  5. 6z GFS showing enough CAPE ( Convective Available Potential Energy) and Lift for Tuesday for thunderstorm POTENTIAL.
Right now I would say level 1 thunderstorms possible since I don’t see any severe storms at the moment. That could change.

  6. Eric F tweet. Not good

@ericfisher: Would wager most SNE towns will see <.25" of rain over the next 14 days. Brush fires and pollen going to be persistent issues.

  7. Usually, it can be like pulling teeth getting the first east coast ridge of the warm season to show up …..

Not this year and after somewhat of a cool down mid week, there seems to be another ridge building in later next week.

      1. I second that about the rain. I’m illegally watering my lawn today. It’s already browning.

TK – Didn’t you forecast a summer drought a few months ago along with your 2014-15 winter outlook?

Fantastic DAY today!!! BEAUTIFUL, even IF still feeling ocean influence here.
Was up to just about 70 and has dipped back to 66, but still nice.

REPORT: ROGER GOODELL WILL SUSPEND TOM BRADY
    05.08.15 at 6:56 pm ET
    By Ryan Hannable
According to a report in the New York Daily News, now it’s not a question of will Tom Brady be suspended, it’s a question of for how many games?

The report says commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Brady because β€œthe Wells Report supplied Goodell with enough ammunition to suspend Brady both for breaking the rules by ordering the deflation of footballs and by not cooperating with the investigation when he refused to turn over his cell phone to Wells’€™ investigators.”

As for how many games, the guesses have been all over the place, but the report did say the thought of him being suspended for the entire season is β€œway off and not going to happen.”

The announcement of the penalty is expected next week.

If that happens the PATRIOTS MUST, absolutely MUST delay raising the flag from
Opening night on Thursday Night Football against the Steelers until such time
as Tom is back. (great idea but not mine, I heard on radio) Goodel will be there.
What better way to give a colossal middle finger to the Freakin NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. KRAFT PLEEEEEEEEEEEZ make it so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Can they appeal? This is idiocy at its best. Not one person can read that report and see enough proof. And no nonsense about it is the way it has always been or it would be enough for a civil case. Bunk. Absolute bunk

      1. There was some talk this morning of Kraft and/or Brady suing
        the NFL. I hope so!!!

  11. It’s hot in the parks today 88 with no breeze going to 92 and 94 tomorrow.

    1. 66.4 here in JP John

Only 54 at the facuckta airport. What a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  12. Blue Hill at 635 feet is 77 with a South wind gusting to 22 mph.
That’s 8 miles from here. I have to believe our temp will be rising shortly. πŸ˜€

    1. Its on its way OS, a wind shift came through Pembroke and the temp went from 60F to the mid 70s and it feels like its about to do the same here in eastern parts of Marshfield.

      1. Not yet. I was just out doing yard work. Still a pretty good East Wind blowing in. Even so, drifted up to 68.5 here. Gorgeous out
there!!!! 3Pm at Logan 53 FACUCKTA DEGREES!@#&&!@*(#&*(&!@#!*&&*(@#!*@#*! 15 degree difference over 6 miles.
        Amazing!!!

    1. It (the east wind) is stubborn out at Logan …..

Up 10F in the last 40 minutes in Marshfield, 63F to 73F, with a now gusty SW wind.

  13. Mr. Kelly, GIVE IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bot 8th: Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 1
Joe Kelly walked seven and allowed six runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings today in Toronto.

  14. Up to 80 here with a DP in the low 60s. Tomorrow is going to be very warm day with highs of 84-88 and summer like humidity in much of SNE, except the south coast.

I have been on the warmer / drier edge of the forecast envelope for much of the last 10 days and I was too cool most days (significantly so on some days) with my Springfield / Lawrence challenge. I underestimated the strength of the S/SW flow. The warm / drier trend is something I need to continue incorporate into my forecast thoughts and modify guidance output with those thoughts.

  15. Anyone ever caught a white crappie
Around here. Stopped fo 10 min
And caught 2 I think unless they were
    Discolored black crappies.

  16. I’m going to be updating soon and taking a whole bunch of degrees off of Monday’s forecast temps…or at the very least we’re going to see a significant drop after a warm start.

We’re likely to get back-doored again.
