Saturday Forecast

8:57AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 2-6)
Transition from humid to dry today and this may include a few additional showers around as there will be a little wind convergence line in eastern MA down into RI and eastern CT through mid afternoon before drier air takes over enough to end the threat. But a largely dry day so don’t cancel any outdoor plans in these areas. A dry but cool day Sunday thanks to high pressure over eastern Canada. This weekend is big for outdoor weddings and graduations so overall, not turning out that badly for those events! However, fair weather won’t be around too long as low pressure to the south of New England makes a northeastward run and brings a wet and very cool episode of weather in Monday. It will continue unsettled and cool into midweek as upper level low pressure hangs around and another surface low possibly impacts the region. Forecast details…
TODAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, favoring southern MA, CT, and RI until mid afternoon. Becoming less humid. Highs 68-73 Cape Cod, 74-81 elsewhere. Wind light S to SW shifting to N 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 50-55. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clouding over. Lows 48-55. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Rain developing. Areas of fog forming. Temperatures steady 48-55. Wind NE 10-20 MPH, higher gusts near the coast.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 60s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 7-11)
Drier weather most likely June 7, 9, and 11, while disturbances bring shower threats June 8 and 10, based on current timing. Temperatures average below normal for the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 12-16)
Cooler/dry weather to start the period followed by a warm-up but some showers may accompany the transition.

        1. Superrefraction, or, the radar beam gets bent earthward and starts picking up widespread dust, pollen, bugs, low level moisture, the tops of trees, really tall people, etc. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. For early June? Quite nice. It’s still spring, and we are getting spring weather. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Exactly. And early Juneโ€™s with low temps well Into the month are not as uncommon as we think

    1. Lawrence was one of 4 stations I have many times mentioned problems with temps and/or dew point. Just ignore the reading from there until such a time (if ever) that they fix the problem. Beverly and Marshfield are also messed up, as is Boston (who consistently runs 1 to 2 degrees too high on their temps).

      1. Example: Boston reports 80 as of 10AM. I can pretty much promise you it’s really 78 or 79 there. But nobody is interested in fixing that issue apparently.

  1. Up to 80 with 71dp but, like you Tom, a gusty ENE wind

Of course as I type that I looked out the window and it was calm

  2. I see ever so slight a trend to the dew point lowering and it appears to
    be coming from the Northeast.

Dp here in JP has been as low as 66.

    Currently temp 82m dp 67

    Logan temp 79 dp 67.

63 dp in Provincetown and 57 in Yaremouth, NS.

          1. Actually darker clouds to my east and west. Iโ€™m under a strip in the middle of blue sky but some towering clouds

  3. Dew Point down to 64 here. Beginning to feel the difference.
Decent NE wind. Temp still 80 here.

    1. I think that was a pre-frontal trof that switched the wind to NE. But behind that trof, the airmass didn’t change much.

The real cold front with much lower humidity is to our north, perhaps where a new shower area is developing in east central NH and western ME.

Once that comes through in a couple hrs, the dewpoints will fall very quickly.

  4. WOW!

    Boston Buoy Water Temp: 60.6
    Stellwagen Buoy: 59.7

Really not too shabby for this time of year.

Still, should allow temperatures to fall to upper 60s to around 70.
    We shall see.

    1. I’ve had a chance to get into the ocean a bit this past week.

While still very chilly, you can be in it for a while and it doesn’t hurt your feet or ankles.

  5. At noon, 65+ dewpoints still reach up to Concord, NH, Portsmouth, NH, etc.

The sub 60F dewpoints are from Burlington, VT southeastward to Bangor, ME.

  6. I have not checked but was just sitting out after my trip to the farmers market and you could feel the air changing.

  7. Brief shower where I am. Yesterday with the humidity felt like Florida. Today I didn’t find it as bad.

  8. I’m right in the bowling alley the last couple hours. 3rd shower, with #2 and #3 being quite heavy.

  9. Im sure this is not as uncommon as I think but I donโ€™t recall seeing it before

    Beach Hazard Statement

    10:09 AM EDT, 6/02,expires 8:00 PM EDT, 6/02

… Beach hazards statement remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening…

    * location… coastal western Maine and New Hampshire.

    * Beach hazard… the warm air temperatures in the upper 70s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the low 50s.

    * Timing… Saturday.

    * Winds… north winds 10 to 15 mph.

    * Impacts… the cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. Anyone on boats or paddlecraft should use extreme caution to avoid this threat.

    Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A beach hazards statement is issued on days when a significant number of boats and paddlecraft are expected to be out on the water and when warm air temperatures may cause people to underestimate the danger of the cold water. Paddle smart from the start. Always wear your life jacket. Be aware of wind conditions, tides, and localized currents.

  10. So it is still 80 with a 70DP. Neighboring stations say the same. No idea why it felt as if it were drying out earlier. Must have been hallucinating. And I canโ€™t figure out if Iโ€™m hot or cold. I am wearing shorts with a long sleeve tee. I think my thermostat needs calibrating.

  11. 73 here but dp still a disgusting 66!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. On another note, pollen is through the roof. I have piles of yellow on deck and I swept it….not my best idea…..around noon. My car changes from dark grey to blue to black normally depending on its mood….registry and dealer couldnโ€™t figure what to call it. I suggested they call it a female. Today, it is yellow.

  13. Good Sunday morning. Lovely start to the day. 56 with 50 DP. Gusty SE wind

Enjoy the morning with your mom, TK. Please say hi. Sue, suspect itโ€™s a bit nippy in Maine. I always liked cool mornings in the mountains. Have a perfect day, Sue, and everyone
