  1. Philip makes a good point. Every body reacts differently to vaccines. I had no reaction at all to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines. But, the combination of a shingles and influenza vaccine has knocked me out. Floored in terms of fatigue. I’ll get through the day on strong coffee – Gevalia (it’s Swedish coffee; dark roast) – as I work to meet a deadline.

Vicki, I’m unsure whether the shingles vaccine I received was a one-off dose, or that I must go back for a second. I wasn’t told I had to. I’ll ask my PCP.

Decorum is important. And, I think politicians, who are role models to some, should refrain from ugly insults, particularly when directed at people who are in public service, trying their best to help.

So, when Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said this: “I have heard enough of that sniveling little twit Dr. Anthony Fauci” I was taken aback. These kinds of comments deserve censure or some kind of reprimand. This applies on both sides of the aisle, by the way. Democracy has a stronger future when we don’t resort to pejorative, name-calling. Criticize all you want, yes. But ad hominem attacks should be called out.

    1. Ad hominem attacks are the final resort for folks who never had anything worthwhile to say from the start. Respect is a must in every exchange. We all can fail but that is where the words I’m Sorry come in

  2. On boosters here are the biggest differences between Israeli and U.S. policy recommendations:

Israel recommends booster for >5 months after 2nd shot.
U.S. recommends booster >8 months after 2nd shot.

    Israel: >40 years of age.
    U.S.: >18 years of age.

  3. My last post for a bit, as I must get back to work.

Pay attention to Scotland’s trajectory. It looked good a few weeks ago, but no longer. Why? Likely due to school reopening. https://twitter.com/dgurdasani1/status/1428624432294137856

I am NOT saying that the implication of this is do not reopen schools. In fact, as you all know, I’m a proponent of schools being in session, in-person. But, we do need to be aware of the risks and act accordingly: Ventilate as much as possible, self-isolate if sick or testing positive, and the use of masks and other measures.

    1. Thank you, Joshua. How are you feeling today?

I would support schools if we were willing to follow your well stated guidelines. Far too many are absolutely not willing to do so. We know parents will knowingly send children with covid. We know, even in more liberal MA, parents are at the point of needing police at meetings because boards of health won’t let them decide whether their child should be masked.

Masking seems to be working in schools. Although, I will say the folks mentioned in this article are the same ones who tended to send mixed messages. But at least let’s just do what is best for children and school staff since the plan is to force in school as the only option.

  4. There’s this person at work (I’m a state employee) said a few months back he got vaccinated. Literally everyone knows he was lying and that he just wanted to be able to walk around without a mask. Now with Bakers vaccination by october 15th for all state employees I legitimately wonder what this guy will do. Originally I figured he would just try for the religious exemption… but how can you try for that if you already “got the vaccine.” Do you admit you lied and put a mask on? If so, shouldn’t there be repercussions?

    1. With a very deep sigh. This is where we have come as a country. Oh, I know it was always there under the surface mostly. But it is coming out of the dark in spades.

Yes. There should absolutely be repercussions. The reason folks get away with this is because there are few or none.

    2. Since our agency gets funding from the state, I am hoping this mandate will apply to us as well.

We have 150 employees and only 89 are vaccinated. (at least as reported to us and I keep track of this stuff)

I will NOT return to the office if there are any unvaccinated employees, even if it mean quitting (retiring for good). Many of our employees live or come from communities that are resisting vaccination. One person’s response was that we should just try to boost our immune system! YIKES!!!

      We’re all F***D!(@**#&!(*@&#*!@*(#^!*(&@^#&

  5. Vicki, I’m really wiped out, as I mentioned above. No DPT, MMR, and Covid-19 boosters for me today. I think my immune system would go into overdrive and cause a cytokine storm.

But, I’m managing to get through the day – I have an upcoming deadline – aided by strong coffee from Sweden; Gevalia dark roast.

    1. Oddly, the first post I saw here today was your second post. Apparently, the page never completely loaded. Sorry about that. And I’m sorry you are still struggling. Gevalia may help. It is too strong for me, but Macs sister loved it

      1. No problem, Vicki.

It’s not that bad. I’m reporting it to underpin what Philip said about every body responding differently to vaccines. Some have no side effects from one type of vaccine, yet a strong reaction to another, and vice versa. Immunology is fascinating. What happens inside our bodies when we get vaccinated is nothing short of a miracle. I imagine the `struggle’ going on inside my body right now: Joshua’s immune system says “hey, what the heck is this [referring to the shingles vaccine injected into his left arm] … and now a few seconds later that [influenza vaccine injected into his right arm]. Oh, brother, better get to work. Joshua’s not going to like this …”

  6. Finally, some common sense from DESE

Massachusetts Education Commissioner Riley to ask state board for authority to mandate masks for all K-12 students and staff

  7. As for that state employee who lied about getting the vaccine, my suggestion is that he gets the vaccine “for real” ASAP! There are plenty of locations available now most anytime during the day with no need to register or make appointments. If others know, most likely his boss/Supervisor already knows as well. 😉

  8. Sad state of Mississippi: https://twitter.com/thehowie/status/1428777245187903492

Governor Tate Reeves doesn’t want any mask or other NPI mandate anywhere. My question to him is, even if it just helped a little – to prevent several deaths a day – wouldn’t it be worth it? Or, are you so ideologically opposed to mandates that you’ll object to them no matter what?

    1. Biden should briefly address the nation live and tell these Governors to…STOP IT RIGHT NOW!…or face repercussions!

      1. Bingo.

Although I don’t think he has the authority to enforce. Or does he? He did try with desantis.

  9. Fool me one shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me

Shame is on me. I should have known better

First, Riley waited until many schools had the mask mandate in place. That I can sort of give him a pass for.

But his proposal is in place till October 1. If MA reaches 80% vaccination rate, it will be lifted.

I’m sure he means 80% for all children ages 2-18 since those are a large number of the folks he is supposed to protect.

    1. I believe the lifting of the mandate is intended for middle and high schools; it’s my understanding that the school has to reach an 80% vaccination rate.

    2. It’s 80% of the school population, and then they can apply to allow vaccinated students and staff be without masks. I imagine many will still require masks when they hit the 80% threshold.

      1. I came here to post that as I just found a better explanation. And it’s is 80% of school population. You are absolutely correct. Last I heard vaccination in school age children is on the lower side so we shall see where that goes.

I’m continuing to read more and his approach will not help with any of the war between pro mask and no mask parents . We already have a war between parents when it comes to masks. It will trickle to the kids There is already a bullying potential because of masks. This Will only add to it

  10. My company, a small Cambridge biotech, just announced that they will be mandating the vaccine, which is great. You have to send a picture of your vaccination card to the head of HR, so you can’t fake it. They’re also slowing down the return to the office because of risk to unvaccinated kids plus waning immunity/need for boosters. Very sensible approach.

    1. Simple, logical, common sense. Good for your company. Clearly they care about employees and all others.

I nominate your company management as a whole for Governor …and if they go for that, I’ll fry for president.
