Saturday January 10 2026 Forecast (7:15AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 10-14)

A brief warmer wedge of air came in last evening just ahead of a cold front to bring us our highest temperatures of the day, which also translate to today’s highest temperatures having already occurred at about midnight. Since then, a cold front quietly slipping through the area has turned things back around. This front is not introducing colder air in a blast and rapid temperature fall as several have done so far this season. This one is more of a colder air leak at low levels into the region, which combined with the rising sun holds the temperature fairly steady in the upper 30s to middle 40s today. An area of low pressure heading for the Great Lakes will increase our cloud cover as the day goes on, and as we reach evening, a modest temperature fall will occur as a light north to northeast air flow continues. When the low pressure area’s rain shield arrives, it can be in the form of sleet and maybe pockets of freezing rain in some areas generally north of Route 2 and west of I-95 for a while tonight. While this is not going to be a widespread occurrence, where it does take place there can be some slick spots on untreated surfaces, so keep that in mind if you are in an area that it can occur. The low pressure area will redevelop, without rapid strengthening, near or just south of Cape Cod tonight and early Sunday. After this it will head northeastward toward Atlantic Canada slowly intensifying. At first this keeps our rain chance going, especially in eastern areas, into Sunday morning. After this, drier air takes over from west to east and we see the day evolve into a windy, chilly one with a sun/cloud mix eventually. By late day and evening, we have a partly cloudy sky, temperatures in the 30s, and just the chance of a passing snow shower or two. These conditions are also what to expect for the Patriots playoff game at 8:00 p.m. Sunday in Foxboro, with a slow temperature fall and a gusty wind. Monday and Tuesday will feature fair and chilly weather, with a gusty breeze Monday and less wind Tuesday as high pressure moves across the region. By Wednesday, this high will slide offshore and we get into a milder southwesterly air flow with more clouds being delivered by a trough approaching from the west. For now, I’m keeping the forecast for this day dry, though some guidance does show rain showers in the region as early as then. So the rain-free forecast on today’s update is fairly low confidence for now.

TODAY: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Rain arrives southwest to northeast by late-day. Temperatures generally steady 38-45. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Overcast. Periods of rain, but some pockets of sleet and freezing rain are possible in interior northern MA and southern NH. Fog patches forming. Lows 31-38 evening, then a slight overnight rise. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Cloudy early with a chance of rain until mid morning. Clouds break late morning leading to a sun/cloud mix afternoon and a chance of a late-day mix/snow shower. Highs 40-47 in the morning, falling into the 30s afternoon. Wind variable 5-15 MPH shifting to W increasing to 15-25 MPH with higher gusts during the afternoon.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 20-27. Wind W 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-45 MPH, strongest in higher elevations.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 33-40. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 19-26. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 35-42. Wind W 5-15 MPH, diminishing.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 25-32 evening, may rise overnight. Wind shifts to SW up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 41-48. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 15-19)

A large scale trough of low pressure moves to the East Coast, likely progressive enough so that main storm development will take place too far offshore to have a significant impact on our region, but we do look for a transition from milder to colder air and a chance of rain showers then snow showers early in the period as the colder air arrives, then a period of dry and cold weather following that. It’s essential to keep an eye on this time of transition in case storm development does take place closer to the coast, which would then increase the chance of a more significant impact.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 20-24)

Colder pattern, and perhaps a better shot of a more significant storm system during this period of time. I’ll be monitoring trends in here to see how things eventually present themselves as right now there is far too much uncertainty to add anything else to the outlook.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    40 after low of 39

    Ocean: 42

    Wordle: 3

On the models, the storms keep coming and going.

  2. For fun ….

    Texans, Bills, Rams, Packers.

For me, my toughest, least confidence games are 49ers/eagles and chargers/pats

    I’ll take the 49ers

Please Patriots win !!!! I don’t think they have a playoff defense, Chargers 37-34. Make me wrong, Pats !!

  3. Thank you, TK.

31 down from out overnight high of 49. Many surrounding low to mid 50s in the wee hours of this morning.

  4. Reading the NWS area forecast and it mentioned perhaps putting up a wind advisory briefly in Berkshires and other areas. Just curious when the strongest winds might be expected in this area. Hopefully after the game. Thanks

    1. During, and I have made no changes from last night’s update on the wind. Exactly as written in the forecast above. 🙂

      1. There’s a very specific bias with the GFS model since the last “downgrade” that has never been fixed. This is a perfect example of it. The key giveaways include too much low pressure intensification and a weird loop that then takes the low center to the southeast, at least temporarily, in a fujiwara with another low that forms to its east or northeast.

  5. Fwiw, the morning tv mets have been eyeing next Thursday and especially Friday.

Of course given the type of precipitation expected the word “potential” is used. 😉

    1. WP will probably never fix it.

Learn how to use Discord because that’s becoming more likely the future of this blog. It has massive benefits that this place does not.

  6. Better chance the Carolina Panthers beating the Los Angeles Rams as a home 10.5 underdog than the 12z GFS for late next week being right.

  7. A weather note impacting sports.

Last week in Chicago, during a relatively warm 2 day period, the Blackhawks had a hockey game. 24 hrs later, the Bulls had a game, but it got cancelled because of constant condensation on the floor. They tried and tried, but could not be made safe.

I bring this up because it was mild last night and relatively mild today.

The Bruins play this afternoon and the Celtics play tonight in the Garden. Interested to see if any issues develop.

    1. Clearly the issue in Chicago was with the air conditioning in the building. Those systems can remove moisture from the air pretty effectively. We’ve had such situations in the current Boston Garden building with no issues, because the air conditioning system was working properly.

  8. Judah’s “new favorite” aka the Canadian model is “ho-hum” on the threat around the 15th. He does have time to switch back to the GFS as his favorite.

(Sorry, he had it coming after what he writes in his X posts .. haha)

      1. I was just scrolling a bit…

You know what the posts are about today (non-met posts, just those stupid pages that shouldn’t exist)?

They are about GFS eye candy. They are not about the actual pattern analysis and why the GFS solution is highly unlikely to verify. They are about what looks big on a particular model run.

This is what is wrong out there. My profession is so undermined now I’m starting to wonder if we can ever get it back.

  9. I know TK and Longshot love hockey.

That was an interesting 1st period.

2 breakaways by the Bruins in the first 2 minutes !!!!! of the game.

And then, the period ends and the teams actually head for the locker room only for replay to notice the Bruins actually scored with 32 seconds left and then they had to replay those last 32 seconds.

    1. Yes that was very interesting indeed!

      Exciting hockey times…
      Today’s game.
      I’ll be attending Tuesday’s game.
Thursday is Big Z’s # retirement ceremony!
The NHL will be taking a break after the first few days of February to take part in the Winter Olympics hockey tournament.

And on the college level, it’s nearly Women’s Beanpot time followed early next month by the Men’s Beanpot.

      1. The opportunities, perhaps few, perhaps more than a few, will be there.

It appears the best pattern at 500 mb we’ve seen in a few cold seasons to drop something substantial.

    1. Yeah, I saw the sfc and the simulated precip features and then also looked at the snow projection and was like, huh?

But I guess the temps are simulated as marginal.

  10. Watching the B’s. They’re up 6-1.

The Pats game looks tough. Of course, both teams have strengths and weaknesses and on balance they net out even to me. The Pats are favored by 3.5, probably a reflection of home field advantage ( which sometimes is given a little too much weight).

The Pats are going to have to play an A+ game IMO. B+ ain’t gonna work.

      1. Agree. The Pats “should” win, BUT there is this saying about the NFL, ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY . So they will play the game to see who wins.

I sure hope the Pats win. I really Don’t want to see a one and done performance!!!

        1. The chargers have a solid coach, a good O, and a good QB. I think they lead the league in time of possession.

          1. And the Patriots have a solid coach, good O and QB. I don’t know about time of possession but we have the best fan base in the league. More than good enough! 🙂

  11. First time the Bruins have reached double digits on the scoreboard since 1988, and the first time since 1979 at home.

      1. Yes.

Zibanejad gave the Rangers a very early 1-0 lead.
Bruins got goals from Khusnutdinov and 2 from Zacha to go up 3-1 after the first. In the 2nd period they got 4 more goals. Fraser Minten put them up 4-1, Marat Khusnutdinov’s 2nd goal put them up 5-1, and Pavel Zacha’s 3rd goal and the first of 2 hat tricks in the game put them up 6-1 before the Rangers’ J.T. Miller got a PPG to make it 6-2 and Charlie McAvoy answered that to make it 7-2. In the 3rd period, Khusnutdinov’s hat trick tally put them up 8-2, Fraser Minten made it 9-2, and Khusnutdinov’s 4th goal of the game capped off the scoring at 10-2.
shortly before that. In the 3rd period,

  12. The Bruins have one very good game and everyone here has them already in the Stanley Cup Finals. I don’t keep up or know that much about hockey. All I know is that the team that puts the most pucks in the net wins, lol. 🙂

I wish there were some basketball fans here at WHW. Don’t look now but the Celtics are now #2 in the Eastern Conference. Not bad considering their star player (Jason Tatum) is out for most, if not all of the season.

As for the Bruins, they have too many streaks, most of them “losing” ones. Hopefully they get their act together after today.

    1. I am a basketball fan and nobody had the Celtics as the two seed in the east right now. My team the NY Knicks struggling with Josh Hart out with an ankle injury are 1-5 in their last six games which allowed the Celtics to go ahead of the Knicks in the eastern conference standings. This season was the first time this century I felt the Knicks could go to the NBA Finals.

        1. I’ve never been a huge basketball fan. I like it. I don’t love it. And the NBA hasn’t done itself any favors with emphasis on star players over the team game. Yes all pro sports do that to some degree, but NBA has always been over the top on it. I’ll watch an entire season of football or hockey on an old black and white TV with rabbit ear antennas before I watch one perfectly visible NBA game. 😉

    2. Get their act together? You talk like they’re in the basement. And who has them in the Stanley Cup finals after one good game? NOBODY here said that. Harsh comment. We were talking about today’s game. You’re not even remotely in the ballpark of being correct on that statement. You’re in an entirely different time zone with that one.

There are 32 teams in the NHL. There are 10 teams with more points than the Bruins in the standings. 11th out of 32 is NOT bad. Could they be better? Yes. But they are not bad.

      1. Sorry. As I stated I know very little about the NHL or hockey for that matter. Take my comments with a huge grain of salt. 🙂

All I keep hearing during sportscasts on the tv news is the Bruins long losing streaks, etc.

  13. The last three 10 goal games for the Bruins…

    March 17 1991, a 10-4 win in Montreal.
    October 16 1988, a 10-3 win in Chicago.
December 20 1979, a 10-0 win at home against Toronto (last time it was done at home).

  14. This afternoon became quite dark and gloomy. Too bad there won’t be any snow event tonight at least to take the edge off.

    The “count” will continue…Sigh. ❄️

  15. Bruins have shown grit this season. Sure, they lack talent. But they work hard and have been a fun, resilient team despite the losing streaks.

On the topic of sports, I was listening to the radio and heard an interview with Trevor Story. He’s a likable guy. Not always cliche either in his answers.

I’ve barely followed the NFL this year so I can’t offer an informed opinion.

I don’t follow the NBA at all.

    1. My pre Mac fiancée and family lived in Suffield CT. I visit on watched basketball in a tiny TV at the kitchen table. Chairs got uncomfortable after not too long. It soured me in basketball…no fault of basketball. Just memories. FWIW they were remarkably wealthy with a lovely tv room

  16. On weather, I can always tell when it’s a cold rain. My feet get cold. The cold dampness somehow gets into the apartment. As I age, I can’t seem to get my toes warm. Probably a circulation thing.

  17. Philip – once again, you continue to irresponsibly make wild accusations without any merit. “Everyone here has them already in the Stanley Cup Finals.” Who on earth on this blog suggested anything such? Yes, you admit you know little about hockey but please pay attention to what the folks on TK’s blog actually impart to you. You seem to make a habit of misrepresenting many things people say including meteorologists from other sources and I can’t stand when someone puts words in my mouth. I have no problem with you stating an opinion. To each their own, but please don’t suggest that people have said something unless you can support it with facts. TK has had to correct you a number of times in the past. Please stick to what is actually real, please and thank you.
