Boston Area Forecast – Sunday Quick Update

1:44PM

Once again Mother Nature shows who’s boss and screws most of us forecasters over with an inversion and a deck of stratocumulus obliterating the sunny sky that was over far eastern MA. Clouds rule for the afternoon. The rest of the forecast is remaining unchanged  for now, except tweaking Thursday’s sky and high temperature, until I can examine things this evening, at which time The Week Ahead will be posted!

Have a great afternoon everyone!

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Low 40-45. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 50-55. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

  1. Beautiful weather on the Cape yesterday and even today. Now home, sitting in the clouds and cool air. Saw interesting forecast yesterday that seemed to back off today for next weekend as far as a noreaster and inland snow. Will have to get caught up on the weather…..Any kind of coastal storm Friday or Saturday would be a coastal flood threat with two extremely high noon time tides both days.

    1. Glad you had a nice weekend Tom. We will be heading to the cape next weekend,
well I hope. My son has a rash all over his body, this could cancel the weekend get away.

      1. Hope it works out that you can get down there. I enjoy the Cape in the offseason. Still enough things open for things to do.

        1. Waiting to hear what Tk has to say on the weather conf he went to yesterday. I am sure they must have talked about this winter. Saw some postings that you wrote back in dec.
It was cool reading on that dec 26th storm. I did not find you guys till mid January or so on wbz, so it was cool. I also remember Todd Gross had a cool website. I went on there last night but has not been updated.

  2. Through October 22nd, Logan is at 6.6F above normal. Every day since October 7th has been above normal. Today is probably going to average right around normal, but will be a little above Monday and Tuesday……..Interesting to see how much is taken off the above normal departure starting Thursday and into next weekend. Even 4 days of 15 to 20F below normal temps would result in October ending up around 3F above normal.

  3. Joe D’Aleo and Joe Bastardi gave an excellent talk at yesterday’s Southern New England Weather Conference. Their winter outlook is identical to the ideas I hinted at previously. Seeing how we are all in agreement, I’ll give a quick roundup of what all 3 of us think…

    Winter Overall
    Temp: Slightly below normal.
    Snow: Above normal.

    December
    Temp: Much below normal.
    Snow: Above normal.

    January
    Temp: Near to below normal.
    Snow: Near to above normal.

    February
    Temp: Above normal.
    Snow: Above normal.

    March
    Temp: Above normal.
    Snow: Near normal.

Octobers that are warm and dry tend to lead to mild winters with little snow.
Octobers that are warm and wet (like this one) tend to lead to snowier winters.
Expect the regime change (switch to more persistent cold) to occur by Thanksgiving. This is a little later than I have been indicating. HOWEVER, we will get some advance shots of much colder air (such as late in the coming week). Despite this, we’ll continue to have mild spells into mid November.

    More to come…

  4. I am going to disagree with that. I am thinking near to slightly above normal in terms of temperature for the winter as well as snowfall. I also feel less coastal storms than last year but 1-2 of those will be a level 3 storm with snowfall between 10-20 inches.
I don’t think we will see a level 4 of 20 plus inches this winter.
