Warm front comes across southern New England Monday, followed by a cold front Monday night and early Tuesday, and high pressure Wednesday. The next low pressure area approaches Thursday. The resultant weather expected is broken down in the next several lines.

As April turns to May, we have a bit of a tricky forecast situation coming. But first, a weekend that will be fairly decent, though will exhibit 2 distinctive feels. Today, a taste of summer. A cold front will come through later and may trigger a shower near the South Coast but otherwise its main impact will be to bring much cooler weather for Sunday. This front will then attempt to come back north as a warm front Monday, but probably won’t fully get through here until Tuesday. So Monday’s forecast is a little tricky. There should be a lot of clouds and some wet weather, and for now I will lean to the cooler side with the front taking its time. The warmer weather should be back by Tuesday, only to be pushed out once again Wednesday as a slightly cooler airmass comes down from Canada.

But Monday, a warm front is again trying to push through the region, returning clouds and unsettled weather.

The final 5 days of April will present a few different kinds of weather generally typical for this time of year, first the continued damp/cool variety today as low pressure continues to coming up the East Coast, weakening, then the clouds-hanging-on variety tomorrow as the nearly dissipated low is slow to depart. After that the warmer southwesterly flow takes over but clouds will still be dominant Friday as a trough moves through from the west and possibly kicks off a few showers. We do get a summer preview again on Saturday with more sun but still a risk of a shower or thunderstorm ahead of a stronger cold front which will open the door to high pressure from Canada, but centered far enough east that the wind will come in from the north to northeast Sunday with much cooler but dry weather.

The departure of these systems can be hard to time, but currently expecting it to do so during Thursday as a very weak system, bring replaced by a warmer southwesterly fair flow.

High pressure centered over the Canadian Maritime Provinces noses southward toward New England and continues to send an Atlantic air flow into the region today. Low pressure will move into the St. Lawrence Valley tonight into Thursday and send a front across southern New England which will then settle just to the south and provide an avenue for another wave of low pressure to come along on Friday. The front will never get that far away and a fairly cool north to northeast air flow is expected by the weekend as another high pressure area builds across eastern Canada. This type of weather pattern usually produces plenty of cloudiness, limited sun, and occasional wet weather in southern New England.

High pressure to the north of New England sends a northeasterly flow into southern New England today, which then shifts more southeasterly by Wednesday. Low pressure approaches from the west later Wednesday into Thursday but weakens during its passage over the region. A second, slightly stronger low comes along with its center probably passing just to the south of the region Friday and lingering offshore into Saturday. The trend is for cooler and eventually more unsettled weather with this pattern.
TODAY: Sun to start, then clouds moving in from the ocean (northeast to southwest) more solidly in the NH Seacoast and eastern MA coastal areas and less so further south and west. Highs 48-55 but may drop to the lower 40s eastern coastal areas later in the day. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.

A fabulous weather day, maybe a little warm for some runners of the Boston Marathon, but about as nice as one can expect for being a spectator of the great race, or being at Fenway for a Red Sox game, which hopefully they are able to win today. There are no weather issues for traffic around Boston but these factors, a work day for many, and a Bruins playoff game this evening will all combine to make it a crazy day getting around the city. At least the weather is not going to hamper that. Bringing us the nice weather is a high pressure area centered over eastern Canada, but this high that is our friend today may become a little less friendly especially for coastal areas by Tuesday as it moves in such a way to change the northwest wind to a northeast wind and this may bring in low clouds and possible drizzle. Additional moisture will be added through Wednesday as winds shift more to the east then southeast, and then we’ll add low pressure into the mix as a couple areas move out south of New England during Thursday and Friday adding wet weather at times under a more solid overcast.
