DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 15-19)

Yesterday’s light snowfall event set the stage for reinforcing cold, and today will indeed be an icebox day as a modified arctic chill dominates. The core of this cold will be here for a limited time though. Tonight, a weak disturbance passing through can cause some light snow showers, and then we’re back to fair weather for a few days along with a gradual temperature moderation into the middle of the week. Thursday and Friday, we’ll see low pressure track through the Great Lakes and into southeastern Canada. This will drag milder air into our region on a strengthening southerly wind Thursday into early Friday, until the low’s sharp cold front comes through from west to east with a band of rain Friday, then a return to windy, colder conditions behind the front later Friday. Watch for a few snow showers by Friday evening as a much colder westerly air flow is established.

TODAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs 22-29. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH. Wind chill often below 20 and at times below 10.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered snow showers, favoring areas south of I-90. Lows 13-20. Wind NW to W diminishing to under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 32-39. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 15-22. Wind WSW up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 37-44. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows Lows 25-32. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. Highs 44-51. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Widespread rain showers arrive west to east late evening and overnight. Lows 37-44 early, then rising slowly. Wind SW to S 10-20 MPH.

FRIDAY: Overcast with widespread rain showers morning, may end mixed with snow in higher elevations well northwest of Boston midday. A sun/cloud mix remainder of day with a chance of evening snow showers north and west of Boston. Highs 48-55 morning, followed by falling temperatures. Wind S 10-20 MPH, higher gusts, shifting to W.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 20-24)

Pattern in the days heading toward Christmas will feature up and down temps, leaning toward colder, and a couple minor precipitation events, details of which can be fine-tuned as we get closer to this time frame. The winter solstice occurs at 10:03 a.m. EST on December 21.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 25-29)

Up and down temp pattern continues. Another couple precipitation events likely occur but no major storms indicated by the overall pattern.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

15 here after low of 14

    Ocean: 46

Wordle: 4. Odd word. Thank you “Love Actually” for allowing me to know the wprd.

    1. Nothing with 1sr guess, 2 in correct position with 2nd guess. 3rd logot one more in correct, allowing for the 4th guess to be correct.

  2. Thanks TK !

We ended up with 3″ or so of snow.

The first 3/4″ were very wet and the majority fell in the early hours of Sunday morning, pre sunrise.

It kind of snowed the rest of the day, but very lightly and nothing took and then from 4-8 pm last night was a steady to moderate, if not occasionally heavy snow that was powdery and gave us at least another 2 and 1/4 inches of dry, powdery snow.

      1. I didn’t even give a rat’s ass about taking any kind of serious measurements. System was not worthy of that. 🙂

Logan had 1.3. I suppose if one accounts for some melting and the added small amount last evening, I suppose we came in “around” that amount.

      1. May I join the co engineers with 4 please. Julie love seeing you play. Great wordling for all. Also have not seen love actually so wasn’t sure it was a word when I entered.

        1. You haven’t seen Love Actually???

GREATEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!

My favorite. There are a couple of gratuitous nudity scenes that are just simply NOT necessary (covered by gratuitous). I try to overlook that because the rest of the movie is extraordinarily excellent!!!

I know each scene by heart, but love it each and every year we watch it.

My next fav is Miracle on 34th street.

My wife’s fav is It’s a Wonderful Life.

          1. Love the original 34th street. Will watch love actually. We have an old member who loves it so I’m surprised I have not seen.

      1. No. When we moved into our current house 20 years, ago I had the cable disconnected while I did some renovations in the living room. The renovations didn’t take too long, but we haven’t watched anything on TV since then!

When our children were younger, the TV screen became known as the “Bob the Builder Display Device.” The children seemed to have reached adulthood in good shape despite growing up in such a bizarre home! 🙂

  3. Non weather:

What the heck is going on with the world?

Maybe it’s always been this bad and modern technology makes it easier to be aware of it.

    Australia.

Brown University and now, it turns out, they don’t think they have the suspect.

And I am old enough to have watched All in the Family and so very often in syndication. What a tragedy and even more so, if the stories out there are to be believed.

Everyone seems so angry or mentally unwell. It’s depressing and sad.

    1. You are correct. The world is totally and completely messed up (please substitute a more vulgar word there)!!!!!!

My wife believes it has something to do with the pandemic.
Whatever it is, it is horrific!! Just too many EVIL people in this
      world.

      1. Bondi Beach also. And now the Reiners.

I agree re pandemic as part. But I have another theory on where hate, violence and biogotry are fostered and encouraged

        1. I’ll say it. Part of the problem rests at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but this crap has been going on long before
          that MORON was in office.

          1. So true. It didn’t start there but I think it’s given a whole new set of permissions. Although I know from Mac’s family friends that we are not the only country currently struggling with the same philosophy

            1. I am shocked that this happened in Australia as some time ago, they basically ELIMINATED GUNS from the general public. Which is something this country should do!!! Certainly get rid of the assault rifles which are designed to KILL as many humans as possible in the shortest amount of time.

  4. Thanks, TK!

21 at 11 am, up from a low of 11.5

There was 2″ of snow up against the snowstick in the backyard. 1.4″ was the official total at the National Weather Service office just up the street.

We’ve picked up nearly a minute for this afternoon’s sunset since last Monday!

  5. Really beautiful winter’s day outside.

But this past weekend was brutal in terms of the news. Reiners killed, massacre in Australia, mass shooting at Brown with gunman still at large, U.S. soldiers murdered by ISIS.

    A festive season turned grim.

Christ’s message of peace is something we all can believe in. The optimist in me always hopes for peace. The realist in me knows that some humans are just evil.

  6. Thanks TK.

Was 9F when I woke up this morning with 2.5-3″ of fresh snow on the ground from yesterday. Definitely a mid winter feel out there. There were actually many school delays in CT this AM I’m sure due to a combination of the cold and frozen slush/black ice on the roadways.

Bob Maxon on NBC CT this AM said when asked that the chances of a white Xmas this year are slim but not zero. I do think our better chance for some snow/frozen precip will happen after Christmas but we’ll see. After the cutter and a brief spike to the 50’s later in the week, we are going to be near the boundary most of the second half of the month. Lots of ups and downs and weak, fast moving disturbances passing through.

      1. Oh and if you couldn’t tell, I also think our chances of a White Christmas (in Boston anyway) are SLIM and NONE. Here’s hoping for a sneakiy little system to deliver 3-6 inches.
Don’t need a block buster, just a little something close enough to Christmas that we DON’T lose it.

    1. That doesnt look realistic up north at all. The mountains have a ton of snow (60″ depth on Mansfield at last check) so unless this late week system totally decimates them, I think they will weather the storm better than the GFS is indicating. The zero snow depth in most of SNE though could very well verify.

  7. I have to be honest and say, I wouldn’t mind a 7-10 day break from the cold …… its expensive for one thing and I feel like we’ve worked hard to keep the thermometer temp low to avoid a ridiculous bill.

So, I’m bummed to lose the snow cover but perhaps we could get a light snowfall on December 25th …………

  8. Here’s another bone headed “headline” that came up on MSN:

“Winter weather warnings issued in 21 states for additional 22 inches of snow”

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/winter-weather-warnings-issued-in-21-states-for-additional-22-inches-of-snow/ar-AA1SoFjG?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=69404c3bcc904e26b21c29cd06a87651&ei=36

It then goes on to mention in the last paragraph of the story that 16-22″ of snow were projected for some town in Alaska.
