DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 7-11)

An upper level trough and attendant weak surface low pressure area passing through the region today will bring abundant cloud cover and some precipitation of both the frozen and liquid variety, albeit rather insignificant. High pressure builds in tonight and Wednesday with drier weather and chilly air as low temps fall below freezing through most of the region tonight and stay in the 40s during the day Wednesday. High pressure slides offshore with a steady warming trend Thursday and Friday. A cold front will move through the region Friday night followed by a push of slightly cooler air Saturday.

  1. Thank you, TK

We are 33 up 5 degrees from our low. We have a trace of Styrofoam balls (graupel) on cars and unpaved surfaces.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

39 here with flakes in the air

    Ocean: 41

    WORDLE: 3

      1. Thanks
1 letter in position on 1st and remained on 2nd guess. The word just hit me for guess 3. It happens sometimes, but not very often for me.

  3. Philip on the last blog you declared that Boston was unlikely to snow in April this year ( even though I have literally had it in my forecast for them today for a few days now).

Well, I am pleased to report that your prediction is already incorrect. It is snowing there as I type this. 🙂

  4. Thank you, TK.

Both winter and summer can have extended `stays,’ if you will, in this region. These extensions tend to bring more volatility in spring here than in fall. In other words, there’s more calmness (less oscillation, more just an integral part of autumn) to Indian summer than what often happens here in spring. Old Man Winter can be really grumpy as it nears the end. The vestiges of summer, on the other hand, have a serene character. By late September/October they’ve even rid themselves of cooling off episodes (ie, thunderstorms).

  5. Had to share this, wasn’t sure if it was shared before but the weather channel has a retrocast on their website. It’s a fun throwback!

Be sure to unmute it in the lower right.

  6. Thank you TK! There were flakes in the air as I drove to Plymouth this morning.

    Wordle: 4

  7. Thanks, TK!

    43 degrees.

Back and forth from dark clouds to bright and partly sunny skies, very much like a humid, summer day!

  8. All great wordle scores. I’m getting lonely back here. Please stop by for a bite to eat, a bit to drink and some chat. I have a couple of antipasti platters and wine and sweet tea!

Oh and eggs Benedict for those who like it. I’m making the hollandaise now…. I am doing that part in reality

  9. I just had my phone prescreening for my minor hand surgery. The individual said since there wont be more snow we don’t have to worry about rescheduling for that

Sooooooo. Plan on snow on April 21 ❄️

  10. The squall that passed through mid-afternoon may have had sleet and/or graupel mixed in. Is it possible or was I mistaken?

    1. No, Philip, you’re correct! We had graupel here pinging off the cars around 1:15ish.

    2. Well that verifies my forecast of the afternoon convective activity being rain and/or sleet and/or graupel and/or snow. 🙂

  11. I call upon the media for more education.

    And little things matter…

I saw a lot of people online today “freaking out” (I hate that term but it works here) because the snow was going to kill their early blooms. No. The snow will not do that. In fact, spring snow, provided it is not overly heavy in weight, is helpful for early growth and bloom, including helpful to the soil providing both moisture and elements of fertilizer.

The thing they need to worry about tonight is the fact that many areas will have a hard freeze. The snow was your friend, and had we had enough to cover the plants / flowers, they’d have protected from the freeze.

More people need to know things like this.

    1. “Kill” is an overkill word in this instance. And snow … not really!

I believe the cold might possibly damage some types of vegetation but really slight damage is always a given … as in every year.

Meanwhile Sox 0-0 and B’s 1-1. Ask me if both teams need the game.

      1. The Bruins need their game more than the Sox need theirs. Although two wins there would be nice.

  12. Driving home from Logan on 24 South this evening and it looked like a November sunset… I need some humidity in my life and high dew points.

    1. I go by the angle / position of the sun. It looked like a classic early spring sunset to me. After 7 p.m., stratocumulus clouds in the sky, a fresh breeze and chilly air. This is more typical of the types of evenings we have around here at this time of year. 🙂

Ironically our spring so far is running warmer and drier than normal.

  13. My goodness so many Red Sox fans are miserable people.

Reading their posts and comments online, you’d think tonight was a torture.

    They won.

  14. Boston (Logan) received a Trace today. I guess that means April won’t go in the books as totally snowless after all. ❄️

    Worcester received 0.2” today. ❄️

    Seasonal Snowfall to date: ❄️

    ORH 79.4
    BOS 62.8
    NYC 43.4

    1. I don’t think anybody thought it was going to go into the books snowless.

I had snow in the forecast for about 4 days running going into today, and Boston seldom gets through the month of April without at least a trace of it.
