DAYS 1-5 (MAY 7-11)
A wave of low pressure on a front is resulting in a wet start to the day over the southeastern corner of CT, across much of RI, and southeastern MA, but as this low pressure wave moves by, the front will be pulled offshore and these areas will dry out from west to east by late morning – rain lastly exiting Nantucket and Outer Cape Cod. A clearing trend works in from the west – blue sky is already visible to the west and northwest early this morning if you are in the I-95 belt westward. Some fair weather clouds can pop up this afternoon but after the rain exits southeastern areas we’re looking at a dry, breezy, and cooler day. Tonight’s fair and cool. Friday’s weather is generally nice but a cold pool of air aloft serves to provide some instability so diurnal clouds pop up again, and I cannot rule out a couple of isolated showers too. Saturday, a wave of low pressure associated with an upper trough will move quickly toward and into our region, with a period of rain from midday into Saturday night. This arrives from the southwest, so areas to the south and west of Boston will see rain earlier, while the NH Seacoast is the last to see the rain arrive and holds onto dry weather longest on Saturday. After this system exits, we look for a mostly fair and milder day Sunday, but again with some lingering cold air aloft I cannot rule out a pop-up shower or two in a few locations. Yet another wave of low pressure heads our way from the southwest late this weekend so you’ll see an increase in high cloudiness later Sunday which thicken and lower Sunday night leading to a rather overcast and wet day on Monday, as it looks right now. We do need rain to help with long term dryness / drought, so in that regard the more unsettled pattern is positive news.
TODAY: Rain ends southeastern areas this morning with a clearing trend from west to east into midday. Sun / cloud mix afternoon. Highs 60-67. Wind variable becoming N 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-50. Wind N to NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 58-65. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY NIGHT: A few clouds early evening, clear late evening, then increasing high clouds overnight. Lows 38-45. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Overcast thickens. Rain arrives southwest to northeast mid morning through early afternoon, continuing thereafter. Highs 57-64. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain early, then clearing. Patchy fog. Lows 47-54. Wind variable to SW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. A pop-up shower possible. Highs 66-73 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 48-55. Wind S to SE up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Rain likely. Highs 55-62, coolest coast. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (MAY 12-16)
Early period fair weather, later period unsettled weather as a blocking pattern sends a trough into the Northeast. Temperatures milder at first, then a cooling trend follows.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 17-21)
Unsettled weather early period followed by later period fair weather as a blocking pattern shifts slightly. Temperatures start out below normal then to seasonably milder.
Thanks TK !
Sharp clearing line.

Wordle: fail
Could have had it at 4. None of the variations I tried worked. Good luck !
Sorry Tom. TOO MANY CHOICES!!!!
π
Darn Tom. So many choices lately
Good morning and thank you TK.
50 here
Ocean: 47
Wordle: 3 And that was after ZILCH on 1st guess.
After 2nd guess, I had the last 3 in order. Now there were
no less than 8 different words that would fit there. I went with the 1st one that came to mind and I got lucky as it was the word. Could just as easily been a fail!!! Crazy game.
Superb, JPDave !!!!!
Thanks
It’s amazing that you got it on the first guess with the last three letters. There are 27 five-letter words ending with those three letters. Some could have been eliminated by your first guess, and some are just plain weird – but still!
I had less luck and got it in 5.
Thank you. Yes it is amazing. I was shocked that my 1st guess after getting the last 3 letters correct turned out to be the word. I figured I’d be going down the list with all guesses wrong until FAIL.
I truly got lucky for a change. π
Nice SClarke !
Terrific JPD
π
Nice! 4 here.
Awesome !
Thanks TK
We did, after 3am, have some very heavy rain showers pass through, with a flash of lightning, which stirred our dog π
Local airport shows .25 fell from the heavy showers and we’ve added another .09 in lighter showers that have occurred up to now.
We’ll take that, as most of yesterday’s rain, as expected, passed well to our north and west.
Only .03 yesterday.
But, to get to .37 or so for a total is ok.
Well, it was a nice Monday-Wednesday temp wise.
Looks like we’re taking 500 steps backwards coming up (of course !!!!)

This afternoon, Sunday and next Tuesday perhaps look reasonable.
50s though in May and headed towards mid May, well …. not ideal.
Well it’s May in SNE. It happens!
I remember many Mays in my youth freezing my ass off trying to play little league baseball in May!!!
Me too !
Still like to complain about it, lol. π
Me as well. I am a habitual bitcher. Can’t help it!!!
I am extremely fussy and I want everything just so.
Most frustrating because one hardly ever gets anything just so. π π π
Thank you, TK. 50 after an overnight low of 47
0.22 overnight. 0.43 total two days.
Wordle 4
Got lucky and picked correct choice for guess 4
Good one!
Awesome, Vicki !!
Great
Thank you TK!
Wordle: Happy to have made the 5 car today. Only had two letters after 4 guesses. Phew!
Nice save!!!
Welcome aboard Sue ! (I missed the train, myself π )
Yikes. Greg getting it, Sue!
Iβm hoping I have the correct date for Happy birthday wishes to JimmyB.
Thank you Vicki!

The Drought Monitor shows the conditions worsening:

April was a dry month, so yup!
Up to 59 here.
Thanks Tk . Itβs a beautiful day in Plymouth
Up to 60.
Holding at 58 here
What is concerning about the MA Drought Monitor (posted by SClarke above) is that 98% of the state is experiencing drought conditions. Most of the state is D0 (abnormally dry) or D1 (moderate drought) and a tiny piece of the state in the northeast is D2 (severe drought).
Repost of the link.

At this point, I am unaware of any drought warnings.
The Quabbin is at 348 billion gallons about 84% of capacity. (412 billion). Winter snow melting and spring rains help at this time of year. The daily demand known as the yield, is around 180 million gallons per day right now. It’ll rise to 200+ million in the summer.
The Wachusett Reservoir which fluctuates less is at 58 billion gallons, 88% of capacity.
No one has sounded alarm bells yet
Thanks for this data about the Quabbin.
The GFS op run seems more believable in its long range projected vs the Euro op run.
The Euro op run, when I have had a chance seems so overdone to me. Every cold shot is really cold, similarly, every warm pulse is really warm.
Euro op runs seems to have really dropped in its accuracy and dependability, especially where it had some notable medium and long range successes before recent ‘upgrades’.
Why do people, for the sake of change, like to change things that work so well? I will never understand that.
Happens in the corporate world constantly. π
Agreed !
64 here and absolutely beautiful!!!!!
It is really nice !!
4 straight spring days !
The instability clouds of earlier are gone π

A 10 for sure today!!!!!
I was out and walked down to the center. It was very comfortable with just a long sleeve jersey. No need for sweatshirt or jacket.
