Tuesday May 5 2026 Forecast (7:18AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 5-9)

A healthy southwesterly air flow will create a gusty wind today but also transport warm air into our region, making it the warmest day in several weeks in general. Of course, ocean-modified air will keep the South Coast to MA South Shore cooler than the rest of the region, typical for spring. We’ll see plenty of sun, but clouds start to increase later as we see the first influence of an approaching cold front to our west. This front will not have a significant impact on our weather until Wednesday, when showers arrive from west to east. A few thunderstorms are also possible, with most activity occurring later in the day and at night, due to a wave of low pressure moving by on the front, slowing its eastward progress. After the front goes by, a second wave of low pressure will slow its progression offshore. This means that clouds will probably be fairly widespread at least to start Thursday, but most additional shower activity should occur to the southeast, just impacting Cape Cod and the Islands for the most part. But the delayed clearing eventually gets here, and fair weather dominates later Thursday through Friday, along with it being somewhat cooler. Saturday’s weather is in question. Another upper low visits the Northeast, and a disturbance accompanying it may bring back cloudiness and the chance of some wet weather as well. Don’t cancel any Saturday plans just yet. It’s possible this disturbance threat has more bark than bite, or its timing is such that it arrives at night instead of daytime. I’ll monitor trends over the next few days…

TODAY: Sunny to partly cloudy through mid afternoon then increasing clouds mainly west of I-95 later in the day. Highs 59-66 Cape Cod / Islands, 67-74 eastern CT and RI to MA South Shore and Cape Ann, 75-82 elsewhere. Wind SW increasing to 15-25 MPH with gusts 35-45 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A brief evening shower possible southwestern to south central NH and adjacent northern MA. Lows 53-60. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Showers possible, chance of thunderstorms, favoring areas west of I-95. Highs 66-73 except cooler South Coast to MA South Shore. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely, especially in the evening. Patchy fog. Lows 50-57. Wind SW to variable up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of morning showers, mainly Cape Cod / Islands. Highs 58-65. Wind variable to N 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 42-49. Wind N to NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 58-65. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Potential for rain favoring later in the day. Highs 58-65. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 10-14)

Blocking pattern re-establishes. Cooler weather favored with pop-up showers underneath an upper low early in the period. Mid period rain potential. Late period fair weather expected.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 15-19)

Blocking pattern holds as does the cool overall regime but looks drier over wetter.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK

56 here after low of 52

    Ocean: 47

Wordle: 5 way too many choices. I used 3 before getting it in 5, with several choices remaining. Someone could fail by simply not using the correct choice.

Looking at several models, there may be too much of a Southerly component to the wind to allow 80+ in much of the area. Prime area’ for 80+ would be Merrimack Valley and Southern NH. We shall see. Perhaps I am blowing
    Smoke.

  2. SPC does throw a 2% tornado, hail, wind contour across a small portion of far Northern New England for later today.

  3. Up to 62 here.

I am going to reduce my expectations from yesterday and put my Over/Under here in JP at 77. We shall see what happens.

  4. I bet Boston (Logan) gets its first 80 of the season. I believe technically it’s around May 1st.

    1. SOOOOOOOOOO MANY of them today. I went through all the ones I could think of and literally tried to guess which one Wordle was throwing at us. I took me 3 times and I could easily have gone to 6 or failed. I consider myself lucky to get it in 5. 🙂

  5. 64 at the airport where wind has turned a bit more to the West with wind SSW now instead of virtually due South.

    68 here.

  6. I got Worde in 3.

What really helped was getting three letters, including the first one, on the first guess, although all out of position.

    1. That is the same number I chose. Let’s see if we are correct.
That wind shifted from South to SSW. COuld make a huge difference. I may break 80 here yet and dash my over/under. 🙂

  7. Thank you TK!

Well done to the Wordlers on here today. Got lucky with a 4 as there were certainly plenty of choices.

    1. Ironically, I guess Denver didn’t have its avg snow season and I saw a graph where the rec’d a trace of snow for all of February.

      1. Why do you call it the little town of Mendon??? 🙂 🙂
Bean there a zillion times. My brother lives there
and prior to that, used to frequent Lake Nipmuc quite often.
Yes, not a big town for sure. 🙂

  8. We’re at 83F now. The high so far today was 84F.

    “But it’s a windy heat” 🙂

  9. Now 80- here in JP and it feels like it as well. Still a beautiful day!!!!

We were 82 one day last month.

  10. 83° 69°dp here on Siesta Key beach.
There is a live youtube Webcam if anyone up In Woodshill would like to take a look. The camera pans the entire beach. Water temperature is up to 77° running a bit lower than normal. They had a below average temperatures this past winter.

  11. Thanks TK. We’ve certainly beaten the heck of talking about the blocking pattern, though today proves you can still get nice days even in a prevailing cooler/wetter pattern. Still a lot of unsettled times to come though. Maybe a more sustained late spring/early summer type pattern in the Northeast after ~5/20?

In other news, hot off the press:

    https://charts.ecmwf.int/products/seasonal_system5_nino_plumes?base_time=202605010000&nino_area=NINO3-4

Is it possible to forecast a negative number for the Boston snow contest next winter? 😉

Kidding of course, but a major and potentially historic El Nino event is inbound later this year. Global climate implications will be immense.

    1. UGH!!! not sure what is worse the doom and gloom of May blocking or the possible SNOWLESS Winter!!!!!
      UGH!!!!

      Many thanks WxWatcher.

  12. Question and would appreciate any suggestions

A friend who lives near Sutton Center has a pup
Who alerts to thunder storms and is rarely wrong. He’s been acting as if a storm is close for a few hours.

I don’t see anything on radar except up in NH.

Anyone see or expect anything ??

    1. There are no thunderstorms in the WHW region nor will there be this evening. There are storms in far northwestern New England (VT) and parts of NY.

      1. Thank you, sir. I wonder what he senses. And I know animals well enough to know something has him unsettled.

        1. Some of them react to the combination of gusty wind with warmth. One of my brother’s dogs used to do that. That type of weather often preceded thunderstorms.

          1. They are in a really windy area of town. So I don’t think so but will def pass by my friend

  13. Bring back Diggs !!! Not guilty on all charges . She was after his money from the get go , jury got it right.

      1. They can restructure him a very good team friendly deal that he would probably take as he loved being a patriot . If I were Mike I’d be on the phone with Kraft saying make him an offer .

      1. She wanted more ( that’s what phony’s do ) everyone saw right through her . Now he’s no alter boy , but he did not do it .

        1. Her best bet was to take the offer. Now she gets nothing. Not too bright!

    1. Hit them right on the button today.

My spot forecasts were 79 Boston, 82 Fitchburg, 81 Norwood.
The actual highs were 79, 84, and 79, respectively.

Nashua was a little higher than I expected them to be at 85.

  14. With the wordle today I got it in three. I got the first four in the first guess. There were many options so I guessed BLIMP for the second guess which is always my goto strategy when a word can be many things is to make a guess that combines three or more letters that could be that missing letter.
