DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 12-16)
A low pressure area quietly passed south of the region overnight without any fanfare other than some high clouds moving across the sky, and now just a few high thin clouds and some lingering high altitude wildfire smoke will give the sky a hazy look today while sunshine dominates with moderate humidity and seasonably warm air. We’ll have humidity spike on Thursday as a low pressure area passes to our north and brings its warm front / cold front combo across our region. The former will produce showers and possible thunderstorms in the region in the morning to midday hours, while the latter brings a shower and thunderstorm chance later in the day. This will be followed by low humidity air and fair weather Friday and this weekend, although clouds will start to return later Sunday ahead of the next trough as we are now in a progressive westerly (zonal) flow pattern.
TODAY: Early clouds limit sun South Coast / Cape Cod before sun returns. Mainly sunny elsewhere. Highs 80-87 except 73-80 shorelines, coolest Cape Cod. Dew point falls under 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear early, clouds return later. Lows 61-68. Dew point heads back toward 60. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Showers and possible thunderstorms morning to midday, then another shower or thunderstorm possible later in the day. Highs 78-85. Dew point 65+. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 57-64. Dew point falls into 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 78-85. Dew point near 50. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 55-62. Dew point below 50. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-82. Dew point upper 40s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 53-60. Dew point near 50. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Sunshine, then increasing clouds late-day. Highs 76-83, coolest coast. Dew point 50s. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 17-21)
A passing trough and frontal system brings higher humidity and likely showers / t-storms August 17. Generally fair and seasonable weather thereafter.
DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 21-25)
One or two quick-moving systems can bring brief unsettled weather otherwise a mainly dry pattern.

Awesome 4 also
Joining the 4 car!
Nice
Wow. Fun 4 car. Well done
I also got Wordle in 4.
On the coast yesterday, the slight drop in the dew point was “refreshing” in a relative manner. I was able to do some yard work for about 1 1/2 late yesterday afternoon and the slight breeze kept me comfortable. Looking forward to the weekend.

Very nice 4!!

You got it. Excellent.
I did not.
Wordle fail
So sorry. You do NOT fail very often,
My mind just wasn’t in the game. Tough sleeping night too which fortunately doesn’t happen often.
Looking forward to your result tomorrow 🙂
Phew, you made it.

Thank you, TK
69/64. Low of 61
Thanks, TK.
I like Chad Tracy. But inexperience in the big leagues has been a problem. I think it started with the strange ways in which he’s handled injured players. Remember when Roman Anthony’s finger injury was a “day-to-day” thing. Now it’s going on 4 months. Is this Tracy’s fault? No. But he kept saying in May that Anthony would be back “very soon” and even refused to say when Anthony didn’t come back that it was a “setback.” “No setback,” Tracy said. We’ve had similar reactions from the manager to other injuries. It’s probably best to say nothing or keep it vague than to sugarcoat it.
On managing player off days and rest, I get it that you want to have players as fresh as possible. But every game counts and this is magnified in a playoff race in which SO many teams are contending. The Red Sox are closer to being in last place in the AL East than they are to being in first place. You must try and win the ones you have a legitimate shot at. There have been winnable games like yesterday which were poorly managed.
Thanks Tk
Up to 75 but dp holding at 64
Thanks TK

Wow you got there quickly. We are 78.

Awesome. Welcome to the 3 car
Wow. Yay Sue! I’m pumping the car behind the train
Hopefully this will post and land directly to the video looking at the sun for the eclipse.
https://www.timeanddate.com/live/eclipse-solar-2026-august-12
Got it, Tom! Thanks! I am going to watch the coverage on TVE, the BBC of Spain in a little while.
Here are two photos that I took of our total eclipse on April 8, 2024.
The “real” one is from my deck with my SLR camera with a filter. The other is the speciality donut treat sold by my local Dunkin to celebrate the event! 🙂

My playlist this afternoon:
Blinded by the Light ~ Manfred Mann’s Earth Band
Sunglasses At Night ~ Corey Hart
The Fly ~ U2 “They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by the moon.”
You’re So Vain ~ Carly Simon (taking the Lear Jet to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun.)
Ain’t No Sunshine ~ Bill Withers
Among others…
Since the sun coverage in Taunton will only be 14.2% at 1:56, I will only listen to 14.2% of the above-mentioned songs.
🙂
Enjoy, Captain !
Perhaps TK or others also use it, Eric Fisher likes to use the term seasonal step down, that transition period coming out of one season and into another.
My random thought is, this has been an airmass step down, with a loooooonnnnnggggg staircase.
Sometimes you go from 94/dp 72 to 81/dp 52 the very next day.
This seems to have gone from a few days of 90/72F to a few days of 88/68F to a few days of 86/61F and now to perhaps 85/59F. Steady but very incremental.
Whereas the upcoming Thursday cool front should really change the airmass.
Yes, it has been a slow step-down. It’s quite warm outside. More comfortable, to be sure. But 85F is above average for the 12th of August and when in the sun, as I was just now during my run, it feels hot.
Granted it is still very much summer.
The real cool-down lies ahead.
Although Thursday itself may end up exceptionally muggy for several hours.
I like The term step down. Is it ok that I’m just hoping we skip it though and have a crash
Haha, love it !
That’s the way I feel in spring, let’s lift off as fast as the space shuttle.
Unfortunately, it’s crawling along like a turtle and no that’s gets turned around some time and has to double back 🙂 🙂 🙂

Found my eclipse glasses! Just peaking now.

Let’s see if this works….
Nice !
Awesome. Saved to show my grandson

Eclipse showing on North Atlantic visible.
I wonder how much that temp drops if …… there’s high pressure over central Greenland with all the glaciers.
There was a discussion on this blog referencing the demise of radio. It’s a sad phenomenon. I’m lucky to have experienced radio’s heyday. And it was epic in Boston. We had some great stations.
There still are nuggets of good radio. Usually, it’s the college stations. I’m listening right now to Harvard radio’s classical programming: A medieval mass (choir). Stuff you just won’t hear on commercial or even public classical radio.
One of the best things about the heyday of radio in this area, there are a couple of channels on YouTube with a plethora of old recordings of radio from all different times. Listening to them is like taking a trip in a time machine.
I was listening to an afternoon segment of the old WHDH 850-AM coming out of song to the news update, traffic, weather, and I swear when I closed my eyes I could smell mom’s supper cooking on the stove and smell the warm summer air blowing through the screen in the window above the kitchen sink. 🙂
Nice. I don’t get those feelings.
I always have been able to transport right back…
Emerson WERS. Is a dandy.
So true, Joshua
86/60
I had my brother wheel outside early so I could meet him with the eclipse glasses and we took a look at peak, and I got a photo of it.
Just 16% of course, a far cry from 4/8/2024, but still just to think about what’s going on there is spectacular. 🙂
In other news, I’d checked the afternoon stuff and there are no changes to my ongoing forecast…
I find it interesting at a measly 16% glasses are still required. Am I correct that a 100% total eclipse no glasses are required for viewing?
This means that only 16% of the sun is blocked and the other 84% is not, so it would be almost as bad as looking at the usual sun.
99.9% would still require them.
Unless the sun is 100% covered, looking at it will cause you major eye damage unless you have protection.
With regard to radio, I am now into the “new” WMEX 101.1 FM. They play Oldies (60s/70s) 24/7. It’s located right here in Quincy too. 🙂
Reception is perfect! My past experience with “Oldies” radio has been the station dying around sundown then barely audible overnight.
Cool. Wmex was the station to use when I was a teen. Thank you
Thanks TK.
NHC update:
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Cristobal has formed in the open northern Atlantic and is moving east, forecast to weaken, and will be a fish storm.
Invest #92 is about to strengthen into a depression and then possibly a tropical storm as it makes a beeline towards St Lucia and the Lesser Antilles this weekend. Hoping it is out of there by Sunday PM and does not affect our flight (we are going through Charlotte with a scheduled arrival there at 2:30PM).
There is another healthy looking wave off Cape Verde maybe 3 days behind that also heading west and the NHC now puts formation chances on that at 40%. We will need to be watching that one as well.
This is what happens when you book a trip to the Eastern Caribbean in mid August, even in what is shaping up to be a light season. Dodging bullets!
At least we don’t have to listen for days on end to people mispronouncing it on the air. 😉
I watched a video of someone on TWC trying to do it, on air, live, for about 2 minutes, and never got beyond “crystal ball”. It was painful to watch.. hahaha.
The accent is on the “to” ,,,Cris-TO-bal
Unless there is a written accent mark, the natural accent on most Spanish words is on the next-to-the-last syllable.
Thank you.
As my dad would say, “You’re putting the accent on the wrong syl-LA-ble.”
Yes. I took Spanish and learned that, so such a name and many others of the kind are not an issue for me. 🙂

Sox are 3 and 8 against Toronto this year. It shows. They’re overmatched somehow.
Losing again tonight.
This is when they need their fans the most. I’m hoping Boston can step up to that.
I don’t know what the fans can do Vicki. We can’t play their games for them. They just need to snap out of it somehow within themselves and get back to winning again.
The social media trolls are going to have a field day online trashing them if they haven’t already.
Hopefully they can win tomorrow so they don’t get completely swept at least. I don’t know if baseball teams have “player only meetings” like in football but the Red Sox players need to conduct one soon.
Maybe this will help. If a child or a friend is struggling, do you fault them or do you encourage them? It’s as simple as that.
The fans can do a lot by encouraging them and not complaining or booing them
This I know for fact.
If the trolls fault them, then speak out to them.
If Boston shoots itself in the foot, then it needs to accept some responsibility
Well, this is the only “social media” platform I use so I’m certainly not the one to lecture them. I highly doubt they listen to any who disagrees with them anyway.
Again, it’s ultimately up to the PLAYERS on the field and at bat to stop their losing ways. The “interim” manager has done all he can imo.
Wow. Some action in Western Connecticut.
New post…
