Tuesday Forecast

7:34AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 23-27)…
Here comes the 2-part storm system with low pressure #1 delivering mix/snow to ice/rain from late today through tonight and low pressure #2 bringing a round of heavier rain and wind later Wednesday to early Thursday. A trailing trough from low #2 will bring a few additional showers of rain/mix late Thursday. We start out cold and this will be the reason for the frozen precipitation associated with low #1, but much milder air aloft and at the surface will take over as #1 passes and will be in place for #2. Drier and cooler weather is expected for the end of the week.
TODAY: Becoming cloudy. Snow/mix developing mid to late afternoon RI and southern MA, may start as rain South Coast and Cape Cod/Islands. Highs in the 30s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Snow/mix developing south to north then changing to rain except freezing rain interior valleys. Evening lows upper 20s to lower 30s then rising into 30s all areas overnight. Snow accumulation a coating to 1 inch coast from Boston south, 1-3 inches elsewhere. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Overcast. Periods of rain/drizzle, though deepest valleys north central MA and southern NH may still see freezing rain/drizzle early. Areas of fog. Temperatures slowly rise into the 40s but may not get there until evening in some valleys. Wind light E to variable.
THURSDAY: Cloudy through morning with periods of rain showers, possibly heavy, and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Sun/clouds afternoon. Mostly cloudy with a passing rain shower at night. Temperature rise into the 50s morning, may reach 60 some areas, then fall back to the 40s evening.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs 35-45.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 3)…
Currently looks like the coldest air that was previously expected for February 28 will stay to the north and the day will be fair and seasonable. System from the west brings a chance of snow/mix/rain February 29. Fair and colder March 1-2. Storm threat March 3 but not sure on timing or any precipitation type this far in advance.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 4-8)…
Unsettled early in the period and again possibly at the end of the period. Temperatures below normal.

Monday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 22-26)…
High pressure provides dry and seasonably chilly weather today. A complex storm system in 2 parts brings unsettled weather late Tuesday through early Thursday. An initial wave of low pressure will lift northward along the East Coast and run into lingering cold air with snow/mix overspreading southern New England during Tuesday evening before changing to rain at night as it warms up both surface and aloft. A frontal boundary left behind as this wave departs will keep damp to wet weather going on Wednesday then more rain will be generated by a second storm’s warm front. This larger system will pass west of New England and drag its cold front through by early Thursday with a band of heavier rain but very mild air just ahead of the front. By late Thursday and Friday it will turn somewhat colder, with a few rain showers around Thursday evening as a final trough of low pressure comes through, then dry weather Friday.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs upper 30s to middle 40s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear except partly cloudy eastern coastal areas and Cape Cod. Lows in the 20s. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Highs in the 30s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Snow/mix developing south to north then changing to rain. Minor snow accumulation. Temperatures steady in the 30s. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Overcast. Periods of rain/drizzle. Areas of fog. Temperatures rise into the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 2)…
Turning much colder during the course of the weekend February 27-28, coldest on Sunday, with snow shower/squalls possible at some point late Saturday to early Sunday. Chance of snow/mix February 29. Fair/cold March 1-2.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 3-7)…
Timing uncertain but one or 2 storm threats possible during this period. Temperatures below normal.

Sunday Forecast

7:41AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 21-25)…
Weak low pressure skirts southeastern New England with a touch of rain/snow tonight, otherwise generally fair weather will dominate today and Monday during each daytime. Fair weather continues Tuesday though clouds will advance ahead of a broad low pressure area in the eastern US. This low is likely to take a track over western New England or even further west than that by Thursday, returning unsettled weather to the region for midweek.
TODAY: Sun to clouds. Highs middle 40s to lower 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy early with a period of rain/mix/snow possible mainly southern MA to South Coast. Breaking clouds later. Lows upper 20s to lower 30s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH becoming mostly NE to N.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Mix to rain. Temperatures rise 30s to 40s.
THURSDAY: Mainly cloudy with rain, possibly heavy, followed by partial clearing west to east by late. Temperatures rise 40s to 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 1)…
Fair and chilly February 26. Risk of rain/snow showers February 27, slightly milder. Much colder with a chance of snow showers February 28. Fair and cold February 29 and March 1.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 2-6)…
Colder than normal with one or 2 storm threats possible during this period.

Saturday Forecast

9:02AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 20-24)…
Broad low pressure passing north of New England has put us into its warm sector after a period of warm frontal snow in much of southern New England late last night. Accumulations were modest, generally from nothing to a coating, which has since melted as the temperature climbed above freezing early this morning, and will continue to head for the lower 50s in many areas during the day as clouds eventually give way to sun. This storm’s so-called cold front will pass tonight and only knock temperatures down a tick or 2 for Sunday, still quite mild for the season, though like today, if you are outside you’ll have to deal with a gusty breeze, which will diminish later Sunday. A weak and fast-moving low pressure area will come racing along from the west southwest Sunday night and deliver a period of rain-to-snow to a good portion of southern New England, though favoring southern areas more than to the north. Any snow accumulation from this system will also be minor, and it will be gone by Monday. But it’s an active pattern right now, and yet another storm, this one larger, will threaten the region by Wednesday. The range of outcomes with that system is very wide at this stage, so no sharp detail will be attempted in this outlook at this point.
TODAY: Cloudy start with lingering sprinkles of rain then decreasing clouds and a sunnier afternoon. Highs upper 40s to lower 50s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
SUNDAY: Sunny start then increasing high cloudiness probably blotting out the sun by the end of the day. Highs middle to upper 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts, diminishing late.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain arrives, then changes to snow with minor accumulation, ending by about dawn. Lows upper 20s to lower 30s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH becoming mostly NE to N.
MONDAY: Early clouds especially Cape Cod, otherwise mostly sunny. Highs around 40. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny start. Cloudy finish. Lows upper 10s to lower 20s. Highs in the 30s.
WEDNESDAY: Storm of snow/mix/rain likely. Temperatures mostly in 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 25-29)…
The final days of February will likely be active but with low confidence on any details we’ll summarize it as a storm with a chance of rain/mix February 25, and another risk of unsettled weather in the February 27-29 period, and sort out the details as we get closer.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 1-5)…
The early days of March look colder than normal with a dry start and then a storm threat following.

Friday Forecast

1:57AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 19-23)…
High pressure slips off to the east today and a warm front approaches from the west. This front moves through tonight and will produce a period of snow with no more than minor accumulation. As milder air arrives a few rain showers may cross the region early Saturday but the balance of the day will be rain free, windy, and mild, with a sun/cloud mix. A very weak cold front will cross southern New England by early Sunday, and that day will turn out breezy but not really any cooler, with mainly dry weather. But in this pattern of fast-moving systems, another low pressure area will come along from the west southwest and coincide with the arrival of slightly colder air with a period of rain to snow possible later Sunday night into part of Monday. A small area of high pressure will bring fair weather back to the region later Monday into Tuesday, though clouds may return later Tuesday ahead of a developing system along the East Coast.
TODAY: Sunny morning. Increasing clouds afternoon. Highs in the 30s. Wind light N morning, light S afternoon.
TONIGHT: Thickening clouds. A period of snow after 9PM to around midnight from west to east, accumulating a coating to locally 1 inch favoring areas north of the Mass Pike. Lows around 30. Wind SE 5-15 MPH shifting to SW late.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers through mid morning, then a mix of sun and clouds. Highs around 50. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy day. Clouding up night with a chance of rain/mix late. Highs in the 40s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Overnight and morning mix to snow then breaking clouds. Lows around 30. Highs around 40.
TUESDAY: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 24-28)…
A storm of rain/mix/snow likely February 24 into February 25. Fair later February 25 through February 26. Another risk of unsettled weather February 27-28.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 29-MARCH 4)…
Unsettled weather may start the period (February 29) and end it (March 4), with fair/cool weather in between.

Thursday Forecast

7:33AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 18-22)…
A cold front pushes through the early first thing today. A broad low pressure area moving eastward across southeastern Canada, will return cloudiness to the region later Friday with a risk of some light snow/mix later Friday night and a few rain/snow showers Saturday. This system exits on Sunday with fair, breezy, and cool weather expected, but quick on its heals another small system approaches, this one from the southwest, and brings a risk of a period of snow/mix later Sunday night into Monday.
TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Isolated snow showers possible east coastal MA mainly midday on.
Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 20s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of a few rain/snow showers. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of snow/mix late night. Lows in the 20s. Highs upper 30s to lower 40s.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of mix/snow morning. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 23-27)…
Another system likely to impact the region later February 23 to early February 25 with any or all of rain/mix/snow – too early to determine. Fair and colder later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 3)…
Storm threat in the February 28-29 period with rain/mix/snow possible. Fair and cool by March 1-3.

Wednesday Forecast

2:12AM

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 2)…
Storm threat in the February 27-29 period with rain/mix/snow possible. Fair and cool by March 1-2.

Tuesday Forecast

3:29AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 16-20)…
The cold air has been tough to dislodge in the areas it was expected to hang on longest, and that is the interior valley locations of southern NH and MA, but also closer in to the city as well. We’ve reached the point in the early morning hours where it’s warm enough aloft for all rain, but freezing rain has still been falling in many areas. The precipitation has become more spotty overnight and will be mostly done by dawn, limiting additional icing, but still in some areas it has been significant. The freezing line will continue to progress to the northwest with time during the morning and eventually the warm air will win out in all locations. During this time, only spotty rain showers are expected, but as low pressure tracks north northeastward, passing just west of southern New England and moving into Canada later today and this evening, it will drag a cold front eastward and send a ribbon of heavier rain and possible thunderstorms across the region. Behind this system, drier weather will move in overnight and into Wednesday, and it will not be that chilly, so snow/ice that fell should be able to be moved and will melt off many surfaces. A disturbance and secondary front will bring a few snow showers and some colder air in by Thursday. High pressure builds over the region late Thursday into Friday with fair weather, but the next system, a broad low pressure area moving eastward across southeastern Canada, will return cloudiness to the region later Friday with a risk of some light snow/mix later Friday night and a few rain/snow showers Saturday.
TODAY: A few breaks of sun through fog in eastern MA this morning otherwise mainly cloudy with spotty rain showers, some of which will still fall as freezing rain interior valleys of north central MA and southern NH. Band of heavier rain and a risk of thunderstorms arriving from west to east by later in the afternoon. Highs 48-55. Wind light variable interior valleys north and west for a while otherwise S increasing to 15-30 MPH with gusts above 40 MPH, especially in the afternoon, with some gusts above 50 MPH possible.
TONIGHT: Rain and possible thunderstorms ending west to east early with some clearing following. Lows 35-42. Wind SW 15-35 MPH with higher gusts shifting to W.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the 40s. Wind W 15-25 MPH and gusty.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-32 except 30s Cape Cod. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny with isolated snow showers. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny, then clouds increase late. Chance of light snow/mix at night. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of a few rain/snow showers. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.
DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 21-25)…
Fair and colder February 21. Unsettled period of weather expected February 22-24 with a couple waves of low pressure bringing the risk of rain/mix/snow. Fair and colder February 25.
DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 1)…
Fair early and late period with a storm threat possible somewhere in the middle of the period. Temperatures near to below normal.

Monday Forecast

1:23AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 15-19)…
Today is a holiday (Presidents Day) for many and this week is school vacation week for many as well. Changing weather is expected from the departure of the Arctic air to a storm that starts as snow and becomes rain, to a couple weaker systems and variable temperatures later in the week. The main feature will be a pretty potent low pressure area that tracks just west of southern New England late Tuesday. Ahead of this, overrunning of increasingly mild and moist air over stubborn Arctic air will result in snow developing later today and this evening, transitioning to sleet then rain, with a period of freezing rain causing some icing over some mainly interior areas of MA and southern NH. The entire precipitation area may pivot back to the west in response to the track of the low and the pulling of a frontal boundary for a time during the day Tuesday, but a heavier band of rain should slide back across the area as the low passes, followed by a rapid drying process from southwest to northeast Tuesday night. Wednesday, a much weaker follow up low pressure area will bring clouds and perhaps a rain/snow shower. High pressure builds in late in the week with a cooler and blustery Thursday and a more tranquil Friday, though clouds will return by later Friday as the next system approaches from the west.
TODAY: Sunny start. Cloudy finish. Snow developing CT/RI and South Coast of MA by mid to late afternoon. Temperatures start out the day -10 to +5, coldest interior valleys of MA and NH and least cold South Coast, then rise into the 20s during the day. Wind light variable becoming S up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Overcast. Snow progressing northward during the evening with accumulations of under 1 inch from the South Shore to the South Coast of MA and across southern RI and 1-3 inches elsewhere. Snow transitioning to sleet then rain from south to north by later evening through overnight but a period of freezing rain mainly over interior MA and southern NH with some minor ice accretion favoring locations north of the Mass Pike and outside I-495 in north central MA and southern NH. Temperatures rising from the 20s into and through the 30s. Wind S increasing to 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Intermittent rain in the morning. Steadier rain, possibly moderate to heavy, from southwest to northeast during the afternoon and evening including the slight risk of embedded thunder. Highs 45-50 north central MA and southern NH and 50s elsewhere. Wind S to SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Rain ending southwest to northeast followed by partial clearing. Lows in the 30s. Wind SW to W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Slight risk of passing rain and/or snow showers. Highs in the 40s morning, falling back into the 30s afternoon. Wind W to NW 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Slight risk of isolated snow showers. Windy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly cloudy afternoon. Lows middle 10s to lower 20s. Highs around 40.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 20-24)…
Low pressure passing north of the region will bring possible light mix pre-dawn of February 20 then a few rain showers during the morning. Fair, gusty wind, and cooling late February 20 through February 21. A pair of low pressure systems will bring some unsettled weather, at least cloudiness and possibly some precipitation, during the February 22-24 period, but details cannot be determined just yet.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 25-29)…
Fair and colder February 25-26. Watching the period February 27-29 for possible winter storm threat.

Saturday Forecast

8:57AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 13-17)…
No significant changes from the previous post. To summarize: Arctic front coming through this morning but only a few flurries with it. In comes the super cold air the remainder of today lasting until early Monday. The wind accompanying it will create dangerously low wind chills. Only a slight risk of isolated snow showers from remnants of Great Lakes snow bands may make it into parts of the region through early Sunday. Watching next system which is still expected to track just west of southern New England, but run into enough cold air at the start for some snow late Monday and some icing possible early Tuesday before it’s just a rain event. A follow up disturbance may create a few rain/snow showers during Wednesday.
TODAY: Partly sunny. A few snow flurries mid morning eastern MA. A band of ocean-effect snow showers possible Cape Cod this afternoon with a slight risk of isolated snow showers elsewhere. Temperatures at their highest to start the day, 14-20 except 20-25 Cape Cod, will fall during the day. Wind W to NW increasing to 15-30 MPH with higher gusts, driving wind chills below zero at times.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Snow showers possible Cape Cod with some minor accumulation where they occur. Isolated snow showers possible elsewhere. Lows -14 to -7 interior, -6 to +2 immediate coast. Wind N to NW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chills as low as -25 to -30 at times.

Friday Forecast

7:24AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 12-16)…
It’s already pretty cold, especially in comparison to the way much of the winter has been to this point. And it’s going to get even colder, as a surge of pure Arctic air arrives for 2/3 of the long weekend, which includes Valentines Day Sunday and Presidents Day Monday. Plan accordingly. 🙂 The introduction to the coldest of the air will be marked by a wave of low pressure that passes just south of New England late tonight and brings snow of minor accumulation to far southeastern MA, especially Cape Cod. Additional snow showers may occur here through Saturday with a strong north wind and increasingly cold air. The actual arctic front will sweep through southeastern New England Saturday morning and midday, and may be accompanied by a snow shower or squall. After this front clears the region, the temperatures will drop and we’ll see a challenging of record lows Sunday morning and record cold high temperatures Sunday during the day, along with dangerously cold wind chill values Saturday night into Sunday. If you want to find a positive, it’s that this deep chill will not be hanging around, as the progressiveness of the pattern allows us to warm all the way back to the 20s Monday and further to the 40s Tuesday, during the passage of the next storm system, the center of which will likely cruise up the Hudson River Valley, turning any snow/ice at the start of the system early Tuesday over to rain for the bulk of its occurrence.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Clouds increase late. Highs 18-25. Wind W to SW 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clouding up. A period of snow southeastern MA with accumulation of 1/2 to 2 inches possible. Lows 10-17. Wind light variable.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Any early snow ends Cape Cod. Scattered snow showers/squalls sweeping west to east morning through midday with briefly low visibility and minor snow accumulation in some locations. Additional snow showers return to Cape Cod. Highs 18-25 morning then falling back through the 10s. Wind chill below 0 by afternoon. Wind light SW to W early, then W to NW increasing to 15-30 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to N for a while later in the day.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear except clouds and snow showers possible Cape Cod. Bitter cold.. Lows -15 to -5 interior, -5 to +5 immediate coast. Wind N to NW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chills as low as -25 to -30 at times.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Arctic sea smoke over coastal water. Bitter cold. Highs 5-12. Wind NW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chill often below -10.
MONDAY – PRESIDENTS DAY: Mostly sunny day. Clouding up at night. Lows -5 to +10, coldest interior valleys, least cold Cape Cod. Highs in the 20s.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Pre-dawn to early-morning snow/ice/rain becoming all rain. Temperatures rise 20s to 30s overnight. Highs 43-50 late-day or evening.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 17-21)…
Windy/colder with a chance of snow showers February 17. Fair and cold February 18 and milder February 19. Mild with a few rain/snow shower possible February 20. Fair and a little colder February 21.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 22-26)…Milder with minor rain/mix event possible in the February 22-24 period. Fair and slightly colder late in the period.

Thursday Forecast

7:27AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 11-15)…
The first surge of Arctic air arrives today, producing scattered snow showers and bringing cold air into the region through Friday. The second surge of Arctic air arrives for the weekend as a cold front dives out of Canada and a disturbance passes across the region early Saturday then opens the door to the Montreal Express, bringing the coldest air in during the day Saturday which will last through Sunday. Moderation will begin Presidents Day Monday, but it will still be a cold day.
TODAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated snow showers and snow squalls. Highs 25-32. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
TONIGHT: Clearing. Lows 5-12. Wind NW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chills below 0 at times.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny day. Clouds arriving evening. Chance of light snow late at night. Highs in the 20s.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of snow early especially southern areas. Risk of snow squalls. Temperatures fall through the 20s. Very windy.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows -10 to -3 interior, -2 to +5 coast and Cape Cod. Highs 5-12. Windy.
MONDAY – PRESIDENTS DAY: Mostly sunny. Lows -5 to +10, coldest interior valleys, least cold Cape Cod. Highs in the 20s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 16-20)…
Storm system brings snow/mix to rain February 16 as its track is likely west of New England. Windy/colder with a chance of snow showers February 17. Fair and cold February 18 and milder February 19. Mild with a few rain/snow shower possible February 20.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 21-25)…Milder trend continues during much of this period with fair weather then a period of unsettled weather. May turn colder at the end of the period.

Wednesday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 10-14)…
Low pressure trough slowly traverses the Northeast today and Thursday. The “mild” side of this trough is cold enough to support snow and a disturbance will kick off some areas of very light to light snow this morning and then scattered snow showers and squalls this afternoon. Conditions may be quite variable, especially this afternoon around snow showers, some of which will cause quick accumulation and reduced visibility. Use caution if traveling. As cold air, the first of a 1-2 Arctic punch, flows in on Thursday from the northwest, additional snow showers/squalls are possible but they will be more isolated. Another system will dive through the region late Friday and early Saturday with an additional threat of a period of light snow followed by snow showers/squalls as another system passes just south of the region and tries to toss some steadier snow briefly into the region, especially southern areas. The coldest of the air, accompanied by wind, comes in Saturday and lingers through Sunday.
