Wednesday Forecast

7:21AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 9-13)…
Warm front pushing through first thing the morning with clouds then opening door to the first day of 70+ for much of the region. Exceptions will be the South Coast through Cape Cod and the Islands which will not get above the 50s in most locations. Also, a few east-coast areas may fall short of 70 as well. Cold front sags southward into the region Thursday but may take most of the day to actually push through the region, even into the night or early morning Friday to completely clear the southern coastal areas as a wave of low pressure ripples along it first. Behind this a push of much cooler air arrives for Friday, but a quick turn around as a small area of high pressure then slides overhead and then to the south by Saturday, which will be a warmer day. And then another cold front arrives from the north as high pressure builds across eastern Canada to send the temperature back down again during Sunday.
TODAY: Clouds eastern MA and RI for a while early to mid morning may hang over Cape Cod into late morning. Otherwise, sun will dominate then give way to some clouds again from the west late in the day. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s most areas, warmest Merrimack Valley and southwestern NH, coolest eastern coastal areas, but only in the 50s South Coast through Cape Cod and Islands. Wind SW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 40s to middle 50s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy to cloudy. Chance of rain, especially northern MA and southern NH, favoring the afternoon hours. Highs middle 50s to lower 60s but may fall to the 40s southeastern NH and northeastern MA during the afternoon. Wind W 10-20 MPH and gusty, shifting to NNE in southern NH and northern MA during the day.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with periods of rain. Lows in the 40s. Wind NW to NE 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY: Any early rain ends then clouds breaking for sun. Temperatures holding in the 40s. Wind N 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Temperatures fall to the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 14-18)…
Unsettled March 14-15, threat of rain but may end as mix in a few areas March 15 as it turns colder. Improving weather March 16 then fair with a warming trend March 17-18.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 19-23)…
Mild start to the period but with a chance of rain showers. Trending colder, briefly fair, then a chance of some storminess of rain/mix/snow later in the period.

Tuesday Forecast

7:31AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 8-12)…
Today, I’m making it a short discussion to basically say I’m not making any significant changes, because confidence drops off rather quickly with time in this forecast, but the overall idea remains the same: Nice today, coolest coast. Warmest Wednesday. Cold front drops through Thursday, wave of low pressure brings some wet weather. Much cooler Friday, milder again Saturday.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 50s to lower 60s interior, 40s coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 40s, may rise toward dawn. Wind variable becoming SW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs around 70 except cooler coastal areas especially Cape Cod (50s there). Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows around 50. Highs around 60 except cooler South Coast, but falling to the 40s in the afternoon especially coastal areas and north of Boston.
FRIDAY: Chance of rain/mix early then clearing. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 13-17)…
Unsettled weather is likely at times from later March 13 into March 15 followed by fair weather later in the period. Temperatures variable, averaging near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 18-22)…
Up and down temps with mostly fair weather to start the period then risk of storminess and colder weather goes up later in the period.

Monday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 7-11)…
Disturbance passes today with some cloudiness and a slight risk of brief light rain in a few areas. High pressure builds Tuesday and Wednesday and in comes the warm air, especially Wednesday, but as previously discussed, coastal areas and Cape Cod will be cooler than the majority of the region on both days. A cold front drops through the region Thursday and then provides the avenue for a wave of low pressure. This results in a cooling trend for the end of the week and some wet weather at least part of Thursday into early Friday (timing still not completely certain).
TODAY: Sunshine gives way to lots of clouds. Slight chance of brief light rain but mainly rain-free. Highs upper 40s to lower 50s, except lower to middle 40s southern coastal areas especially Cape Cod.
Wind SW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows middle 30s to lower 40s. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 50s to lower 60s interior, 40s coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with sea breezes.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows near 50. Highs around 70 except cooler coastal areas especially Cape Cod.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows around 50. Highs around 60 except cooler South Coast, but falling to the 40s in the afternoon.
FRIDAY: Chance of rain/mix early then clearing. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 12-16)…
Likely near a boundary with disturbances aplenty, therefore up and down temps and periods of unsettled weather, impossible to time this far in advance.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 17-21)…
A continuation of the up and down may be the case early in the period. Subtle indications of a more important storm system toward the end of the period.

Saturday Forecast

7:33AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 5-9)…

Friday Forecast

7:24AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 4-8)…
A large and deepening storm passes well south of New England today and is only close enough to put some northern-fringe snow over Cape Cod and the Islands with minor accumulation there. Wind will be a bigger issue in that area. In addition, an ocean flow will put some snow showers into eastern coastal areas of NH an MA at times, with minor accumulation also possible there in some locations. A small high pressure area brings fair weather but not quite as cold Saturday, and a weakening low pressure combines with a northeasterly air flow for more cloudiness and maybe a few snow showers Sunday. High pressure building over the region both at the surface and aloft will ignite a significant warm up early next week.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. A period of snow South Coast and Cape Cod with accumulation up to 2 inches possible, and a few snow showers with minor accumulation at most eastern MA and NH seacoast locations. Highs 30-36. Wind NE 10-30 MPH, strongest Cape Cod area, including higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Snow showers possible eastern to southeastern MA evening. Lows 20-26. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape Cod.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow showers. Highs in the 30s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 50s.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 9-13)…
Fair and warm March 9. Turning cooler with periods of cloudiness and some light precipitation at times March 10-13.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 14-18)…
Variable temperatures average close to normal with a few minor precipitation events during the period.

Thursday Forecast

7:13AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 3-7)…
High pressure dominates today with dry and cold weather. The cold hangs on Friday as a deepening ocean storm passes well south of the region and only grazes the South Coast and Cape Cod with some snow. Scattered ocean-effect snow showers are possible in eastern coastal areas due to an onshore air flow. Another high pressure area brings fair weather but not quite as cold Saturday, and a weakening low pressure combines with a northeasterly air flow for more cloudiness and maybe a few snow showers Sunday. High pressure builds back in Monday with fair weather and the start of a significant warming trend…
TODAY: Sunshine, dimming late-day as high clouds increase. Highs 28-35. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Clouding up. Lows 16-23. Wind light N.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. A period of snow South Coast and Cape Cod with accumulation up to 2 inches possible, and a few snow showers with minor accumulation at most eastern MA and NH seacoast locations. Highs 30-36. Wind NE 10-30 MPH, strongest Cape Cod area.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Snow showers possible eastern to southeastern MA evening. Lows 20-26. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape Cod.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow showers. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 8-12)…
Fair with significantly above normal temperatures March 8-9. Turning cooler with periods of cloudiness and some light precipitation at times March 10-12.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 13-17)…
Variable temperatures average close to normal with a few minor precipitation events during the period.

Wednesday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 2-6)…
Today will be a good example of the changing pattern as just within the 12 hours starting with the time of this post we’ll go from very mild and wet weather to windy, clear, and cold that feels like mid Winter, all thanks to a low pressure area moving across southeastern Canada and dragging a strong cold front through the region. The cold that arrives to end the day will be around for a couple days, and as stated yesterday, we’ll have fair weather due to high pressure Thursday and a chance of snow due to low pressure passing south of the region Friday. It still remains to be seen just how important (or unimportant) the snow event will be as this will depend on the exact track of the low pressure center. Still leaning toward a less important event but a greater risk of accumulating snow in southern and some eastern areas of southern New England. More to come on this. High pressure brings fair weather Saturday. A weakening low pressure area and a northeast flow combine to bring more cloudiness and possibly a few mix/snow showers Sunday.
TODAY: Cloudy through midday with periods of rain, some heavy, with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Clearing west to east during the afternoon. Highs upper 40s to middle 50s through midday then falling to the 30s during the afternoon. Wind S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows upper 10s to lower 20s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chill 10 or below at times.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs upper 20s to lower 30s. Wind N 5-15 MPH, diminishing during the day.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow. Lows in the 20s. Highs around 30.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of mix/snow showers. Lows in the 20s. Highs around 40.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 7-11)…
Temperatures warm to above to much above normal with mostly fair weather during this period. Will have to keep an eye out for sneaky cold air from the north.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 12-16)…
Temperatures above to near normal as a few systems bring changeable weather.

Tuesday Forecast

7:27AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 1-5)…
March has arrived! And our weather pattern is…pretty much the same, quick-moving systems and lots of change. Timing is always an issue in a pattern like this, and the madness that can be the March weather pattern will be in full swing during the first days of the month, without question. This starts with a windy/colder morning today compared to the relative warmth of the final day of February under 24 hours prior. A warm front moving in tonight will send cloudiness in advance of itself late today then some precipitation, starting as snow/sleet/freezing rain in some interior areas before rain in all locations as the temperature goes up overnight. We won’t be in the warm air mass very long though, as the low pressure parenting it is also parenting its sibling cold front, which will charge through the region during the middle of the day Wednesday with a final band of rain, followed by clearing and falling temperatures. This will be a significant punch of cold air that will be with us through late week. High pressure will bring fair weather Thursday. Low pressure passing to the south on Friday brings a risk of snow. Though the bulk of this system is likely to pass south of the region, it will be a close enough pass to watch closely as a northward shift would bring more significant snow into the region.
TODAY: Sunshine dominates into afternoon then gives way to clouds from the west later in the day. Highs in the lower to middle 40s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty in the morning, diminishing and shifting to S then SE during the afternoon.
TONIGHT: Thickening overcast. Periods of snow/sleet/freezing rain interior MA and southern NH, especially near and west of I-495, with mix/rain elsewhere. Lows in the upper 20s to middle 30s early, mildest coast, then rising through the 30s into the 40s overnight. Wind light E to SE early, shifting to S and increasing to 10-20 MPH overnight.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy through midday with periods of rain. Clearing west to east during the afternoon. Highs upper 40s to middle 50s through midday then falling to the 30s during the afternoon. Wind S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 10s. Highs around 30.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow. Lows in the 20s. Highs around 30.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 6-10)…
Next low pressure system brings a risk of light snow/mix March 6 and a follow up disturbance may bring a few rain/snow showers March 7-8 with temperatures moderating from below to near normal. Fair weather March 9-10 with temperatures moderating to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 11-15)…
Temperatures above normal during this time with some unsettled weather around the middle to end of the period.

Monday Forecast

1:55AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 29-MARCH 4)…
A pair of cold fronts will come through the region, one midday today and one about midnight tonight. The final (extra) day of February will be quite mild, but colder air will arrive overnight to start March on a chilly note. Quick-moving systems mean that a warm front will approach during Tuesday with clouds rolling in. Its parent low will pass northwest of southern New England early Wednesday with a round of rain showers at some point Wednesday with a cold front. High pressure builds in with fair and chilly weather Thursday. Low pressure develops and moves south of the region by Friday, and with cold air in place we’ll have to watch for some mix/snow, though it’s a little early to determine how productive this system will be here in southern New England. It is even still possible this system is further south and misses most of if not all of the region.
TODAY: Sun starts and ends the day. Variably cloudy with a possible passing rain shower in between. Highs in the middle 50s to lower 60s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W in the afternoon.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear early and overnight. A period of cloudiness and maybe a snow flurry in between. Lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to NW overnight.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs in the lower to middle 40s. Wind light NW shifting to E.
WEDNESDAY: Scattered light mix/rain morning. Rain showers likely early-mid afternoon. Late-day clearing. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow/mix. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 5-9)…
Unsettled weather with possible periods of snow/mix March 5 to early March 6 as low pressure offshore is slow to depart. Fair later March 6. Possible unsettled weather from a weaker system later March 7 into March 8. Fair weather returns for March 9. Temperatures near to below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 10-14)…
A milder start with mostly fair weather then a colder finish with possible unsettled weather.

Sunday Forecast

8:20AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 3)…
No current changes to the discussion from yesterday, i.e., no changes in short term thinking and not confident enough beyond that to change anything that I wrote yesterday, so just an updated forecast…
TODAY: Clouds dominant morning. Sun dominant afternoon. Highs in the lower to middle 50s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers through midday, then becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the lower to middle 50s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to WNW.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Lows in the upper 20s to middle 30s. Highs in the 40s.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy with rain possibly ending as snow followed by late-day clearing. Temperatures fall 40s to 30s.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 4-8)…
A broad low pressure trough carrying a couple of disturbances will bring chances for unsettled weather at times during this period along with temperatures near to slightly below normal. Too early to determine any kind of rain/mix/snow locations and intensity and timing.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 9-13)…
Fair weather returns early into mid period before the risk of unsettled weather returns beyond that. Temperatures near to slightly below normal.

Saturday Forecast

9:35AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 2)…
High pressure retreats today but leaves lingering cold from the polar air mass that it delivered yesterday. A warm front arrives tonight with cloudiness but no precipitation, and brings a milder air mass in from the west for Sunday. Its parent low will travel eastward passing north of southern New England Monday while dragging a cold front through, but this particular front does not have much cold air behind it as it has traveled over a milder portion of the US and is not coming from colder sources further north. Eventually somewhat cooler air will sink down from Canada and this boundary will remain fairly close once it passes, coming back up into the region as a wavy frontal system by Tuesday and Wednesday, with more cloudiness and eventually some wet weather. At the tail end of this unsettled weather, there may be a risk of rain ending as snow as colder air arrives more quickly, but this is several days away and uncertain.
TODAY: Sunshine most of day. Clouds from the west late. Highs in the upper 30s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts late.
TONIGHT: Considerable cloudiness. Lows in the lower 30s before midnight then rising through the 30s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers through midday, then becoming mostly sunny.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 3-7)…
Fair and cold March 3. A broad low pressure trough carrying a couple of disturbances will bring chances for unsettled weather at times March 4-7 along with temperatures near to slightly below normal. Too early to determine any kind of rain/mix/snow locations and intensity and timing.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 8-12)…
Risk of unsettled weather early and again late period, with fair weather in between. Temperatures near to slightly below normal.

Friday Forecast

7:27AM

Very short update today, not only because I was recovering from a minor bug, but also due to a computer crash. I guess it had a minor bug too. 😉

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 1)…
Basically no changes to the previous blog. The chill is back today into Saturday, a warm-up for Sunday and Monday as February comes to an end, and a chill-off to start March.
TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH and gusty. Wind chill in the 20s.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 10s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts. Wind chill below 10 at times.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs around 40. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows around 30. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the 50s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs around 60.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 2-6)…
Low pressure passes northwest of the region March 3-4 with some rain expected. Another system approaches from the west by March 6 with rain/mix possible.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 7-11)…
Unsettled early period and again later in the period (rain, mix, or snow) as temperatures trend to near to below normal.

Thursday Forecast

7:29AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 24-29)…
Regarding the overnight wild weather (wind, thunderstorms, warmth), comments from you all are encouraged below, and I’ll be adding more later today, as my time for this update is limited this morning. As far as the forecast goes, no big changes for this update so will just move onto the updated forecast.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny with greatest chances for sunshine mid morning to early afternoon. Early lingering rain showers and a few downpours Nantucket and Cape Cod. Scattered rain showers returning from west to east late-day. Temperatures falling slowly through the 50s. Wind SW to W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with passing rain showers evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Lows in the 30s. Wind SW to W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy and windy. Highs in the 30s. Wind W 15-25 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs 35-45.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs 45-55.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Risk of late-day rain showers. Lows 35-45. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 1-5)…
Medium range models still having some issues with the pattern but the leaning is now for a rain/snow shower potential March 1, fair March 2, a storm threat with a track more likely through the Great Lakes March 3-4 favoring rain here, and fair weather returning March 5. Will fine-tune in the days ahead.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 6-10)…
Trending colder including unsettled weather threats including mix/snow at least 2 times during the period.

Wednesday Forecast

7:31AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 24-28)…
The weather’s gotten into the mood to be harder to forecast, but we like a challenge. After a nearly no-show on the snow portion part 1 of the storm system, the second part of it won’t be able to pull such a trick, as we’ll see periods of rain/drizzle today and that area of heavier rain coming through in the early morning hours of Thursday, and a trailing trough bringing a few more rain/mix showers Thursday evening and night. Still expecting drier and colder weather by Friday and a chilly start and milder finish to the coming weekend as additional cold air remains locked up in Canada.
TODAY: Overcast. Periods of rain/drizzle, though deepest valleys north central MA and southern NH may still see freezing rain/drizzle early. Areas of fog. Temperatures slowly rise through the 30s. Wind light E to variable.
TONIGHT: Overcast. Periods of rain/drizzle. Areas of fog. Heavier rain and a possible thunderstorm well after midnight from southwest to northeast. Temperatures rising through the 40s evening and into the 50s. Wind light E to SE shifting to S then increasing to 15-30 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Cloudy through morning with periods of rain showers, possibly heavy, and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Sun/cloud mix midday. Mostly cloudy with a passing rain shower late day. Early-day highs around 60 then falling through the 50s and into the 40s by late day. Wind S to SW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a rain/mix shower evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Lows around 30. Wind SW to W 15-30 MPH with higher gusts.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy and windy. Highs in the 30s. Wind W 15-25 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Highs 35-45.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs 45-55.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 29-MARCH 4)…
Mild with possible rain showers February 29. A few snow showers and colder March 1. Fair and chilly March 2. Risk of light mix and chilly March 3. Milder with rain showers possible March 4. This portion of forecast low confidence and subject to change.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 5-9)…
Fair early and late in the period. Unsettled mid period. Variable temperatures, averaging near to below normal.
