Thursday Forecast / Two Cool

2:05AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 9-13)…
Two cool days courtesy a northwest flow and a trough of low pressure over New England. The trough will result in occasional cloudiness, but there will not be enough instability or moisture around for any shower activity across southern New England through Friday. An approaching disturbance from the Great Lakes will turn the wind more southwesterly Saturday, allowing it to warm up somewhat, but cloudiness will also eventually dominate and this may lead to some shower activity at night or early Sunday. During Sunday, a cold front will sweep through the region from northwest to southeast, and send another unseasonably cool air mass into the region for Monday as the trough sharpens up just east of the region again. In fact, low pressure forming on the cold front after it goes by may intensify fairly rapidly offshore, almost like a cold season system, aiding in the delivery of cool air, but probably too far out for any wet weather.
TODAY: Partly cloudy. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH with gusts 30-40 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows upper 40s to lower 50s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with gusts around 30 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows middle 40s valleys to lower 50s coast. Wind light W.
SATURDAY: Sun followed by clouds. Risk of showers at night. Highs in the 70s.
SUNDAY: Cloudy to partly sunny and breezy. Risk of showers through midday. Lows in the 50s. Highs around 70.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy and windy. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 14-19)…
Low pressure offshore may keep it quite cool and breezy with at least some cloudiness Tuesday June 14. Dry weather is expected to dominate the remainder of the period with below normal temperatures at first, moderating to near normal by the end of the period (June 18-19 weekend).

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 20-24)…
Pattern re-configures itself to eventually let high pressure dominate the upper levels, centered in the Midwest but pushing the jet stream further north and allowing some warm to hot weather to push eastward and push temperatures to near to above normal levels with mainly dry
weather, just a couple episodes of showers/thunderstorms possible depending on the track of passing disturbances.

  1. First in the batting order!
    Good morning, everyone!
47.7 degrees right now in the Westside of Taunton

  2. In 2008, we were in the midst of a brutal, four-day heat wave: June 7-10:
    93, 96, 99 (the high 8 years ago today), and 101 degrees on June 10, 2008.

All temperatures were measured at the Taunton National Weather Service office.

    1. Your post caused me to look at Logan for these 4 days and even they were 90F+ all four.

That must have been miserably hot in school, but I’m not recalling it. 🙂 🙂

I kept looking for the rest of that summer and it ended up being the hottest stretch. July was warm, but not overly hot and August was below avg by 2F.

  3. Thank you TK.

Great info Captain. Looks as if tom is playing clean up. Grand slam I’d say 🙂

  4. We are now experiencing our earliest sunrise (5:07 am) and will continue until the first day of summer on June 20, then goes back in the other direction the very next day. Thuse darker mornings will be back before you know it. 🙁

    1. Thanks, Philip. Coincidentally (completely) I looked out this morning a bit before 5:00 and thought I was imagining that it looked to be lighter. I always appreciate your sharing this info!!

      1. There’s actually some light on the horizon a little before 4am now (says the guy who gets home from work between 3:30 and 4am most nights)

  5. Good morning and thank you TK.

At 7AM it was completely sunny and by 8AM it was 75-80% overcast.

    That was fast.

Reminds me of many April Days.

Would not surprise me in the leas bit IF these clouds spring a shower/sprinkles or 2
    here and there.

      1. Yes, I was able to see that not too long after I posted.

The way those clouds all blossomed so quickly I thought
that they might spring loose a shower or 2.

Happy to know there is “too much Drying”.

        We need that sunshine.

62 at Logan as of 10AM. That is a bit chilly. Let’s see what we can do to get it up around 70 or so.

      1. Sure ….awesome when Joshua posts. 😉

Seriously, someone needs to knock my snark out today !!

  6. I know some will disagree, but I could do without the cool, overcast, and blow your head off wind

      1. I’m just out and about today in the city and its not too pleasant trying to get around town.

          1. Sorry – I’m just teasing you! Seems to be my mood for the day. I actually love this weather and find it incredibly invigorating.

            1. As long as there is “reasonable” sunshine, I have no problem with it whatsoever.

Make it overcast and I do NOT like it.
Add mist/drizzle/showers to it and I
              DETEST IT!

    1. Indeed it does. I was going to post that.
A very nice day, a bit on the cool side, but with ample sunshine to
      make it pleasant. 😀

  7. In terms of the cool weather, I like this weather when its April/early may. October Then I want 80s/90s can do with out the humidity thats what makes me sleepy and not want to do anything. This cooler than average temperatures, means that I have gone biking about once or twice a week. I want the Beach weather to come though. I want to break in my new shore Break Skimboard.

  8. While it’s a bit on the cool side – it’s nothing compared to June of 1816. New England saw several snow events that month, and southern Quebec was worse:

    https://pastnow.wordpress.com/2016/06/06/june-6-1816-snow-storms-in-june/

Found these factoids on a site describing weather in QC:

The first snowfall of winter for Québec City normally arrives in October.

The season’s last snowfall typically happens in April although in some years a late snow lands in May or even June.

For about 141 days a year, Québec City has at least a centimetre of snow on the ground. In mid-winter the snowpack averages 53 cm deep.

Québec City is normally free of snow every year from July to September.

    1. Thanks, Joshua and very interesting. I am back on my computer now so can actually type your name correctly. Apologies for mistype earlier.

This is also Good for people to know who have been considering a move to Canada in case of………..well, just in case 😉

      1. blasphemy!!

Hopefully, people will come to their senses and a move to Canada won’t be necessary. 😀

      2. blasphemy!!

Hopefully, people will come to their senses and a move to Canada won’t be necessary. 😀

  9. Ok I may be snarked out.

So turning to weather. 63.4 with a 42 DP and wind gusting to high teens. Trees are awesome to watch as they seem to be swaying to some imagined tune.

    1. blasphemy!!

Hopefully, people will come to their senses and a move to Canada won’t be necessary. 😀

      1. As the post gets dropped in the wrong place. Ahh word press,
you blow more than the wind!

        1. That’s ok – I laughed when I saw the post. As usual we are on the same page…perhaps not in the right location but the same page at any rate 🙂

    2. I was thinking something along those lines after watching Eric last night.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

  10. Best instability Saturday looks to stay west of SNE in New York State. Some instability touches far western parts of SNE.
    Tweet from Eric Fisher
Elevated overnight instability…will be keeping an eye on storms coming down in northwest flow ->

    1. And where is this showing? I can’t find it. Can anyone point me in the correct
      direction?

      Thanks

  11. Thanks TK. Weekly drought monitor was released today; D1 level “Moderate Drought” is now invading MA. Would not be surprised to see areas of “severe” D2 drought later in the summer.

    1. Thank you, WeatherWx.

I will have to take a drive by my old neighborhood. When we left in March, the Sudbury river was very low. But in this area everything was high. Now, the areas I drive by here are much lower with much of the water having that stagnant odor.

      Very, very concerning

      1. I just don’t see it. Drove by the Charles River in Dedham last evening and it was still HIGH as in Bank Full. Higher than normal for this time of year.

It’s like real estate. Location, location, location.

  12. In spite of the gusty NW breeze, it is not chilly in the least. A light jacket is barely needed. If this same setup were in even late April, we would still probably have to bundle up head to toe.

    1. Yes, I was out at lunch. Fine day out there. As long as I am not headed to
the beach, this weather is AOK with me. 😀

  13. Actually, what was not clear to me at first but is more clear now, is that Eric was
talking about overnight instability Saturday night.

Ahh, I feel better now. 😀

  14. From Eric Fisher

One of the Top 25 deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history, right here in Massachusetts ->
June 9th, 1953. I can remember that day. I was not quite 6 at the time. I was living in
Norwood, which was 30+ miles from Worcester. It was cloudy and coolish there,
as Norwood did not break into the warm sector like Worcester did. I can remember
pieces of roof shingles falling from the sky. Amazing.

    1. Vicious storm. My father used to tell me about it.

Thank you for sharing your memories. Given that I was born in 1964, my first real memories are from the late 60s. You know, memories of Joplin, Hendrix, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Jim Morrison, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, Jagger, Richards, Lennon, McCartney, …

      1. Me too. Like all of those names. Saw the Rolling Stones
at the Old Boston Garden in the Fall of 1965. Great show!
I loved it. They are perhaps my all time favorite band, much more so than the Beatles. Of the Beatles, I liked John and George better than Paul. They had a rougher/harder edge to them than did Paul.

I was and still am a rocker from way back.

Next to the Stones, my favorite band is a band most don’t even know about at all. Social Distortion
Orange County, CA by way of Stoneham, MA.

        😀

      2. Love reading those names. Another pause and sigh moment. So many now gone but what an music era.

  15. Vicku, no need to apologize. Hope your car’s maintenance went well. I had mine done on Saturday, and the old jalopy passed the inspection. Yay!

    Joahua

    1. hehehehe – very well played!!

Was just the 5000 mile but the dealership (I cringe as I never use a dealer once I buy a car) where I purchase was bought out so they don’t have an inspection station. So now I still need to get a sticker.

      1. There a good mechanic shop in grafton. Mobile station on 122 across from the CVS. I’ve used him for years.

        1. Excellent. Thank you. Right now all is free including oil but I won’t use a dealer for anything else. Son found one in Webster that he likes a lot but suspect yours is closer. I’ll let him know. Appreciate it.

  16. Latest Tweet from Eric Fisher regarding Saturday.
Some guidance bringing showers/storms over us Saturday PM…but thinking CT/NY/PA/NJ areas should be favored. Something to monitor

  17. Anybody know if Pete B does a daily blog over at NECN? I’ve looked. It I can’t find one. NECN’s site is s little difficult to navigate.
I miss his blog posts. I always liked them.

    1. Ahhh a man after my heart. I have looked also but will check again. I stopped reading any mets when he left and just come here

      1. He’s on FB and I’m following but for some reason never see his posts. I need to figure why.
