Monday Forecast

7:52AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 21-25)…
The very mild pattern likely peaks this week. After this, slight pattern instability and climatology will battle against allow it to become this mild again, though the long term still looks mild overall. Of more immediate concern is wind. As the pressure gradient tightens up today between low pressure to the west and high pressure offshore, we’ll see a moderate to strong southwest wind, making the mild temperatures reaching around 50 feel just a little cooler than that. Sunshine will also be lacking as high and mid level cloudiness will be plentiful. By Tuesday, the warming atmosphere will yield some rain for a period of time before a break arrives and lasts well into Wednesday. One more surge of wet weather will come through Wednesday night, and a mostly rain-free Christmas Eve is expected, when it may be warmest of all. A couple troughs and a front may cause a few rain showers as we transition back toward cooler at night, and by Christmas Day itself an area of high pressure should bring fair weather and temperatures, though cooler than the day before, will still be above the long term average.
TODAY: Limited sun, lots of clouds. Highs 47-54. Wind SW increasing to 15-25 MPH, gusting 35-45 MPH but gusts as high as 50 MPH possible over higher elevations and exposed locations in southeastern MA.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Light rain possible before dawn. Lows 40-47. Wind SW 10-20 MPH and gusty during the evening, diminishing overnight.
TUESDAY: Cloudy through early afternoon with periods of light rain. Breaking clouds and some sun possible later. Highs 48-55. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 41-48. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. Late-day rain southern areas. Highs in the 50s.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Lows 45-55.
THURSDAY – CHRISTMAS EVE: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Highs 55-65.
FRIDAY – CHRISTMAS DAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 26-30)…
Possible rain late December 26 into December 27. Fair December 28. Possible mix to rain (most likely just rain) December 29. Fair December 30. Temperatures variable, still averaging above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 31-JANUARY 4)…
Mainly dry weather. At this time it looks like any meaningful storminess will be pushed to the south and any energy from the northern jet stream would produce no more than a few rain or snow showers. Trending a little colder – temperatures above to near normal.

Sunday Forecast

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Wind light S.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 46-53. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain late. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
THURSDAY – CHRISTMAS EVE: Partly sunny. Chance of rain showers early. Lows in the 40s. Highs 55-65.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 25-29)…
Fair and cooler December 25. Unsettled weather possible from late December 26 to early December 28 depending on the track of low pressure and the position of a front. Fair late in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 30-JANUARY 3)…
A mainly dry and mild pattern is expected though it may turn briefly colder later in the period.

Saturday Forecast

8:24AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 19-23)…
In these final days before Christmas we’ll see a shot of cold air then a return to mild weather again. The weekend will be a chilly one with Saturday having a gusty wind and a few scattered snow showers as a rare cold air mass from Canada comes across the Great Lakes into the Northeast. The chill will hang around Sunday though it will begin to moderate a little and will feel even milder with much less wind. High pressure sinks to the southeast by Monday with a milder southwesterly flow and mainly fair weather. A weak cold front will produce more cloudiness and a few rain showers early Tuesday followed by drier weather as a weak bubble of high pressure moves in. A broad disturbance and more prominent southerly flow will bring unsettled weather into the region Wednesday, though the system may lack some support leading to a more meager rain risk than might have been expected.
TODAY: Variably cloudy – clouds most dominant this morning with sun more dominant during the afternoon. Isolated snow showers. Highs 35-42. Wind W 10-20 MPH gusting over 30 MPH. Wind chill 25-30.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Wind W 10-20 MPH gusting over 30 MPH. Wind chill under 20.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs 45-55.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 24-28)…
Upper level high pressure will be centered off the East Coast but will be knocked down a little bit but a fast-moving trough in the northern jet stream. This will bring a change in air mass in southern New England by December 25, which will mean a cooler Christmas Day after a mild Christmas Eve. Rain shower chances should be limited to the early part of Christmas Eve, that is the morning of December 24 with an additional rain shower possible early December 25, otherwise mainly dry weather will dominate. A broad low pressure area to the south and west by later in the period will send cloudiness back in and eventually rain chances as the mild air will continue to be dominant.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 29-JANUARY 2)…
Unsettled weather may start the period (rain/mix/snow – too early to tell), but then as 2015 ends and 2016 arrives, expect the overall pattern of mild/dry weather to continue.

Friday Forecast

7:29AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 18-22)…
Wave of low pressure on departing cold front holds clouds over the region for a while today, including a little additional rain on Cape Cod, before the clearing trend begins later today. A decent shot of cold air comes in for this weekend bringing temperatures all the way back to near normal, which is quite an accomplishment for the pattern we’ve been in! A few snow showers are possible Saturday and sunshine will dominate Sunday. Turning milder early next week and a disturbance may cause a few showers most likely Tuesday.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy through midday including a risk of some rain Cape Cod. Partly sunny later in the day especially Boston west and north. Highs in the 40s. Wind W to NW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts late in the day.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 20s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated snow showers. Highs in the 30s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH and gusty.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 50s.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 23-27)…
Chance of rain December 23. Chance of rain showers early December 24 and again early December 25 with a series of disturbances, but much of the time will be dry. Very mild Christmas Eve December 24, windy and cooler on Christmas Day December 25. Fair and mild December 26. Chance of rain later December 27 as a wave of low pressure gets close.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 28-JANUARY 1)…
A stretch of fair and mild weather is likely to end out December 2015.

Thursday Forecast

7:29AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 17-21)…
Again carrying the same ideas forward. A broad area of low pressure will cross the region today and tonight with episodes of rain. Fair, windy, and cooler weather returns during Friday other than perhaps brief additional rain near Cape Cod from a wave of low pressure on the departing front. The weekend will see windy and colder weather Saturday with perhaps a passing snow shower, and fair but more tranquil though still chilly weather on Sunday. An approaching disturbance may bring some cloudiness at times and milder air for Monday but moisture for that system may be lacking so rain chances will be low.
TODAY: Cloudy. Patchy drizzle. Increasing risk of rain especially midday-afternoon. Highs 48-55. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of fog. Lows in the 40s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy start then sun/cloud mix. Clouds and a little rain may hold on over Cape Cod into afternoon. Highs in the 40s. Wind W to NW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated snow showers. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 22-26)…
Still like the idea of less amplitude and a little more progression than many models have been showing. Fair December 22. Mild with possible rain December 23 and rain showers December 24. Fair, windy, and cooler December 25. Fair and milder December 26.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 27-31)…
Risk of unsettled weather December 27 to early December 28 then fair weather returns. Temperatures continue to run above normal.

Saturday Forecast

7:54AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 12-16)…
A split weather weekend, today being a day with plenty of sunshine and very mild air, then Sunday being a cooler and cloudy day after a cold front slips down from the north northeast tonight and puts itself southwest of southern New England before coming to a stop. As low pressure then passes north of the region late Monday and early Tuesday, another weather change will take place. First, the front that went by us will struggle to return as a warm front during Monday, but will eventually do so by late day and evening, while at the same time the low’s trailing cold front will push eastward and eventually offshore by early Tuesday. This process will be accompanied by wet weather, but again rain instead of snow as it will be very mild. A gusty wind and a mix of sun and clouds will make it feel somewhat cooler Tuesday. Winds settle down and air will finally feel a little more seasonable by Wednesday, though it will still be milder than the long term average.
TODAY: Areas of fog early. Mostly sunny. Highs 57-64. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Patchy fog late. Lows in the 40s. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Windy with sun/clouds. Temperatures falling through 50s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 25-35. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 17-21)…
A progressive trough of low pressure will temporarily change things a little during this period. Mild with a few rain showers possible later on December 17. Isolated rain or snow showers and trending colder December 18. Isolated snow showers and seasonably chilly December 19-20. Fair and cool December 21.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 22-26)…
Milder December 22 into December 23 with another system producing rain showers at some point. Briefly colder later December 23 to early December 25 with a few rain/snow showers possible later December 23 or early December 24 otherwise dry. Fair and milder at the end of the period.

Friday Forecast

7:24AM

A disturbance or two may bring some precipitation in a couple of episodes but overall mostly fair weather with temperatures near to above normal.

Thursday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 10-14)…
5-day mild spell.*
Spotty drizzle and light rain showers this morning and midday from a combination of moisture from the south and a disturbance from the west. Low clouds to start out Friday but a brighter finish. Nice Saturday. *Sunday’s temperatures and cloud cover dependent on the position of a front that tries to push in from the north. Approaching cold front from the west will bring wet weather in during Monday.

Wednesday Forecast

8:39AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 9-13)…
An low level inversion (cold air trapped underneath a layer of warm air in the lower atmosphere) will keep a blanket of clouds across much of the region today though there will be areas of less cloudiness with some sunshine. The inversion will get wiped out by an increasing southerly wind tonight/Thursday but still lots of clouds will prevail as the wind carries up moisture from the south. A weak disturbance passing through early in the day Thursday may produce a few light rain showers. The wind turning a little more to the southwest Friday will allow for a sun/cloud mix and a warming trend that will last into the weekend, if not through it. The wildcard is that a bubble of high pressure in Canada may push a front southward on Sunday introducing cooler air and possibly some cloudiness.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Highs in the 40s. Wind light variable.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy drizzle and fog. Chance of a rain shower overnight. Lows around 40. Wind light S.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of a few rain showers early. Highs around 50. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 35-45. Highs in the 50s.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 14-18)…
A storm will track to the north of the region pulling up warm air and causing wet weather December 14. Fair and cooler December 15-16 but temperatures still above normal. Additional rain showers December 17 followed by drying weather December 18 as the milder than average regime goes on.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 19-23)…
One or two disturbances may produce some unsettled weather early to mid period though odds favor rain over snow. A colder and drier trend toward the end of the period but no major cold.

Tuesday Forecast

12:05PM (EDITED for discussion 8:00PM)

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 8-12)…
Low pressure intensifies well offshore but sends a little light rain into southeastern MA today. A low level inversion will trap some cloudiness in the region Wednesday though there will be areas of sun as well. A developing southerly wind ahead of an approaching trough will warm it up on Thursday but there may be a few light rain showers. A broad but weak high pressure ridge will bring fair and mild weather for the end of the week.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Some light rain southeastern MA. Patchy drizzle elsewhere. Highs in the 40s. Wind light N to NE.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Wind light variable.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 18-22)…
Mild and mostly dry weather, though it may turn a little colder by the end of the period.

Monday Forecast

7:37AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 7-11)…
High pressure weakly hangs on today with fair and mild weather. Low pressure south of the region on Tuesday will result in lots of clouds and maybe a little rain near the South Coast and Cape Cod. Cloudiness lingers Wednesday between that and a weak system approaching from the west, which may bring a few rain showers but otherwise continue the theme of more cloudiness during Thursday. Improvement is expected Friday as that system moves away and high pressure moves in.
TODAY: Partly sunny. Highs in the 50s. Wind light variable.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Wind light E.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of a light rain for a while mainly South Coast / Cape Cod. Highs in the 40s.
