This weekend will feature fair, dry, comfortable weather as high pressure dominates. The high will slide offshore Monday sending warmer air our way, but humidity will stay down that day. It is Tuesday and into Wednesday when we will get a more traditional summer feel with warmth and higher humidity, but also an increase in the chance for showers and thunderstorms. This takes place later Tuesday into Wednesday as a cold front approaches the region. The timing / speed of this front will determine the details when we get to those days – something to sort out going forward.

High pressure brings more dry weather July 14-16. Increased moisture later in the period presents a better chance of shower and thunderstorm activity, but we still have a general northwesterly flow and no sustained heat in this pattern.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 19-23)

Another area of high pressure builds in with cooler, drier weather to start the period, then warmer and increased humidity later in the period when the chance of showers and thunderstorms will return.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 8-12)

A quick shot of warmth and higher humidity, though not oppressive humidity, precedes the passage of a cold front later today. This front will have limited activity on it, with only a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm in the area later in the day. That exits during tonight, and high pressure builds in for a beautiful weekend, coolest both days along the coast, warmest inland, but lots of sun and low humidity both days as well. High pressure will move offshore Monday and a southwesterly wind, the “return flow” as it’s known, will usher in warmer but only slightly more humid air. You’ll notice the humidity more so on Tuesday as well as the feel of summer as we make a rare (for this summer so far) run at 90. We’ll also have to watch for a late-day thunderstorm Tuesday as a frontal boundary will be getting closer to the area from the northwest.

A cold front moving through the area July 13 presents a shower and thunderstorm chance with warm air and high humidity in place. High pressure builds in with fair, slightly cooler, and drier weather July 14-16. Next chance of unsettled weather comes at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 18-22)

Another area of high pressure builds in with cooler, drier weather to start the period, then warmer and increased humidity later in the period when the chance of showers and thunderstorms will return.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 7-11)

Weak high pressure slides offshore today and sets up a southeasterly air flow, aided by the development of a diurnal sea breeze anyway near the coast, so it will be a mild day but cooler readings will be found at beaches. Occasional clouds will cross the sky with some mid level moisture about. Tonight, a warm front crosses the region with clouds but no precipitation. Friday, a cold front will move across the region, but not arriving until late it will give us a chance to feel a bit more warmth and slightly more humid. Generation of showers and possible thunderstorms will be somewhat limited, so many areas may get through this without seeing any rain at all. The weekend will be spectacular, governed by Canadian high pressure, with plenty of sun both days, fairly light wind, and low humidity. We may see some clouds around early Saturday though to start the weekend off as a result of Friday’s front being a bit sluggish upon its exit. High pressure will retain control of our weather Monday with another nice day expected.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 6-10)

A quiet weather pattern will be ours for days to come. High pressure brings fair and warm weather today but with lower humidity and a cooling coastal sea breeze developing. The high moves off to the south and east Thursday and the frontal boundary that went through our area last night will be heading back this way as a warm front, probably never to make it. But it will help increase the cloud cover in the region on Thursday. But that boundary never makes it and a stronger northwesterly flow brings another Canadian cold front into and across the region Friday, bringing the only chance of rainfall during this 5-day period, in the form of scattered showers. Canadian high pressure builds in to provide the region with dry and pleasant summer weather for the weekend…

High pressure will be the main player in our weather at first, and as it shifts to the south of the region the trend will be for weather weather with an increase in temperature and humidity. A frontal boundary moves into the region mid into late period with a shower and thunderstorm threat.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 16-20)

High pressure will be in control much of the time. Originating from Canada it brings mild/dry weather at first before sinking to the south and allowing increased warmth and humidity again.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 5-9)

We’re beyond the big holiday weekend now, which was quite nice for the most part after just some interruption from showers / storms on Saturday. Going through the remainder of this week, we have a couple rounds of unsettled weather to contend with. The first, later today and tonight as a low pressure disturbance crosses the region in a northwesterly air flow. First, the warm front from the system will approach and move through this afternoon with a threat of a little bit of light rainfall, but much of this struggles to make it to the ground as it battles the dry air in place. Moisture spikes this evening ahead of a cold front, which offers a better chance of showers and possible thunderstorms as it moves through the region from northwest to southeast late evening to early overnight hours, basically a couple hours either side of midnight based on current expected timing. Behind this system, high pressure brings nice weather for Wednesday. However, this time it’s only a one-day stand for the great weather, because we’ll already see clouds moving back in Thursday ahead of that frontal boundary trying to lift back as a warm front. That boundary may struggle to get all the way through the region, and will be a general pathway for a wave of low pressure to move across our region later Thursday night and Friday with showery weather. The rainfall and temperature details are a little fuzzy for Friday and are dependent on the exact position of the frontal boundary and track of low pressure – so some fine-tuning will be necessary. Canadian high pressure is expected to arrive just in time for the weekend on Saturday with more great weather – low humidity and pleasant temps!

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 4-8)

Happy Independence Day! This will be a top 10 summer day across our area with high pressure in control, sunshine and a few decorative high cloud patches, and maybe a few fair-weather clouds popping up during the day. The air will be dry and the temperature generally in the range that is comfortable for anyone outside for both daytime (remember sun screen!) and evening (remember insect repellent!) activities. The overall weather pattern we’ve entered the summer in remains with us though, and we’ll be seeing a disturbance move through out region from northwest to southeast Tuesday, bringing more cloudiness and some unsettled weather. However we may get through a lot of the day without rainfall threatening – just having some showers pass by mostly to the north in the morning, with a warm front, and a shower/thunderstorm threat holding off until the nighttime hours, with a cold front. This system exits early Wednesday, and high pressure builds in with fair weather for midweek, then slides away later in the week as the next disturbance approaches with unsettled weather returning for Friday.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 3-7)

Short and sweet update here. Cold front has pushed offshore. Dew points have been lowering from northwest to southeast and this trend will continue today. We start with an extensive high cloud shield over the region but this will gradually clear away and the limited sun will become brighter by midday onward with just a few fair-weather cumulus popping up to decorate the sky, so it does turn out to be a wonderful Sunday, and this great weather will continue through the Monday Independence Day holiday too. Look for some coastal sea breezes though as we’ll have fairly light wind. Our only unsettled weather day in this 5-day forecast is Tuesday, which will feature clouds and a shower chance as a disturbance moves in from the northwest. This is much more quickly and of shorter-duration than medium range guidance had this just a few days ago, so here’s another example about what us meteorologists say about trusting guidance too much too far out and using it wisely. High pressure returns by midweek with fair weather and pleasant air.

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 2-6)

An unsettled Saturday. That’s what we have. But we’ll have our “quiet times” around the region today too. A batch of showers and thunderstorms rolled across New England, thunder focused more toward the South Coast, in the pre-dawn to shortly-after-dawn time frame, and is heading offshore as I write this update. We’ll be vulnerable to showers and thunderstorms at any time here in the WHW today until this evening, but the tendency will be for the threat to diminish from northwest to southeast late-day / evening as a cold front slides through the region. If you have outdoor plans today, keep a very close eye on the weather. Any storms that do occur can be strong to severe. When it’s done, most people won’t see severe weather at all, but those that do can get a pretty solid hit. It’s very important to keep this in mind in any case, but even more so with this being a holiday weekend and many outdoor things going on. After today’s “headache” though, it’s clear sailing for Sunday and Independence Day Monday, as high pressure takes over and sends a refreshing Canadian air mass into our area. Tuesday looks more humid and unsettled as a disturbance moves into the region on a northwesterly air flow aloft, but this should be departing by Wednesday with some improvement in the weather.

Two disturbances should move through the region with a west to northwest flow during this period bringing opportunities for showers/thunderstorms for relatively brief periods of time. Temperatures ups and downs with air mass changes but no extreme heat or cool anticipated during this time frame.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 12-16)

Weaker westerly flow and more high pressure to the south should allow for warmth and somewhat higher humidity to be the rule but with limited shower and thunderstorm opportunities.
