DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 26-30)

Down the home stretch of November we go. Coming out of Thanksgiving Weekend we have some weather changes ahead. Today’s not a bad day to finish off the long weekend – a tad less chilly than yesterday, but we’ll start to lose the sun as the day goes on. We have a trough approaching from the west and low pressure approaching from the southwest and the two will combine to bring us a slug of rain later tonight and early Monday. The low pressure area to the south will be tracking right across southeastern New England (just a little further north than I’d forecast previously). It’s also going to be intensifying fairly rapidly as it passes by and exits via the Gulf of Maine Monday morning. This is going to create a period of strong and gusty winds for eastern MA, particularly Cape Cod, where gusts over 50 MPH are possible for a few hours. While it stays windy, the winds will diminish a little bit as it clears out during the day Monday with dry air moving in behind the system. Tuesday through Thursday will be dry days with a chilly northwesterly flow to start and slightly milder westerly flow after that. This pattern comes about by us being between low pressure in eastern Canada and sprawling high pressure that moves from the Plains to the Southeast. A trough swings through the region later Wednesday or early Thursday but is not expected to produce any precipitation – just some clouds.

TODAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 42-49. Wind variable to SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Thickening clouds. Rain late evening through overnight hours. Lows 38-45. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Cloudy through mid morning with rain ending west to east. Sun/cloud mix late morning on. Highs 47-54, warmest southeastern MA. Wind variable 5-15 MPH with higher gusts early becoming N 15-25 MPH with gusts over 30 MPH inland and over 40 MPH eastern coastal areas, strongest Cape Cod, becoming NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts midday on.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 22-29. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 35-42. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 20-27. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 36-43. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 23-30. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 40-47. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 1-5)

Minor precipitation threat exists late December 1 to early December 2. Another precipitation threat, more likely rain than snow, December 4. Pattern doesn’t favor major storms as systems organize after they pass. Temperatures variable, averaging near normal.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 6-10)

Continued idea of a pattern that keeps southern stream moisture to our south and minor system passing through from the northern jet stream. Temperatures variable, averaging near normal.

    1. Thanks, JJ. The story of Humarock and rhe Portland gale has always fascinated me. Somewhere i have a book dedicated to it. Lots of warnings were ignored. But what fascinated me most of all was the storm separated Humarock from the Scituate mainland between third and fourth cliffs making humarock an island until the original mouth just north of Rexhame beach was closed.

Tom, I’m sure you know this story far better than I, please correct me if I have my cliffs wrong. I have always tended to get them confused.

      1. If I remember correctly, the change in Inlets also allowed more salt water to reach the marshes and damaged some of the grasses.

  1. I happened to turn to Iowa St vs Kansas St last night and enjoyed watching a few minutes of a game played in decent snow.

The field was covered, a few inches deep, but they had the yard lines fairly cleared off.

  2. Scandinavian high is trying to build, which could produce some wintry mix weather across the British Isles along with sunny and cold spells. Similar for the low countries. But it appears that this batch of relatively cold weather is coming a bit `too soon,’ just like here. Feels like winter, to be sure. But not quite cold enough to support snow and definitely not consistently cold to support ice on the canals.

  3. For those of you following the news reports from China and elsewhere – pediatric cases of pneumonia – I worked on an article over Thanksgiving. My piece suggests that mycoplasma is a likely main culprit. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2023/11/25/mycoplasma-likely-main-culprit-of-outbreak-of-pediatric-cases-of-pneumonia-worldwide/?sh=49e50efe1176

I basically worked all weekend on research and articles.

Here’s one on Rosalynn Carter and mental health. She was a trailblazer. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2023/11/23/rosalynn-carter-leaves-behind-legacy-in-efforts-to-reform-us-mental-healthcare/?sh=4ba1d3c166d0

And I wrote one on perhaps the single greatest public health achievement of 2023, as it will lead to saving countless lives against a scourge – malaria – which claimed between 150 and 300 million lives in the 20th century: https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2023/11/22/in-africa-rollout-of-life-saving-malaria-vaccines-accelerates/?sh=5403f5d61115

    1. Thank you. Have not read all of them, but went to the malaria article first. I feel the vaccines have not rec’d the media attention they deserve.

    2. I saw a tweet? from you on the pneumonia..I think.

Thank you for Sharing these. I always enjoy your articles. .

  4. It’s marginal, probably favoring the higher points in the VT/NH mtns, but there’s a chance some places get a heavy fall of wet snow over a few hours overnight.

  5. Mac Jones is horrible! He has gone straight to the bottom of the barrel. And yes, I realize it could be directly attributable to the coaches! Mac needs to go somewhere else where he can shine!!

    1. I 100% agree. If a person is repeatedly told he is a failure. If a person is told he’ll be benched if he makes one mistake. If a person is the subject of mind games. I don’t care who that person is or what he does, he cannot perform to his best ability

  6. Thanks TK.

Jones needs a fresh start but unfortunately he’s a back up moving forward. Nobody is giving him a starting spot unless there are injuries.

    1. Agree. And I’m afraid belichick damage may have gone too far. Or perhaps a year as backup is what he needs to find what belichick took. I will always be a pat’s fan. I will not watch another game as long as belichick is head coach. I am disappointed with myself for not listening to you years ago, Hadi. And what makes me feel even worse, is the proof was right in front of me all along.

  7. Thoughts on the Patriots today
    1. Defense did all they could today, I been saying they have not been able to get pressure on the qb for a while well they did today.

    2. Receivers are not bad but not great. They need Douglas, Kb and someone in the draft and free agency.

    3. Oline is getting better each week but there will have to be one or two new people from the draft/free agency

    4. QB play is getting worst every week. Last year it was on Patricia, This year, Mac Jones is just not executing what is needed and is costing the Patriots games. Seriously at times I feel he is sabotaging games.

    5. Though our record is 2-9 a few plays there and there could have painted a much different record.

Draft needs Receiver, QB, OL, Edge, third down back
    Need to resign Tes
    Need to extend Judon
Keep the two Bills, we need consistency in the coaching, part of what I think has happened is that there has been way to much change in the coaching over the past 4 years.

    1. I think the team is currently UNFIXABLE.

I am beginning to think that Kraft does NOT want to sink any money into the team.

      1. Bill coild never draft. How many times did Brady give up salary to keep players or beg bill to draft him weapons that could help him. We finally lost Brady because of it

    2. I like a lot of your ideas Matt.

      Respectfully disagree with keeping BB

In my opinion, he doesn’t have the experience for the modern game. We can see that in the players he goes after. He’s more excited about a special teams player than a good receiver or QB.

Thanks for everything Bill ! We can build him a statue for his accomplishment. But, also, see ya !

    3. Receivers aren’t that bad? Matt they are awful. Defense played the worst offense in football.

Just like my Commanders, it’s time to blow it all up and start fresh.

Vicki, I wish I was wrong but you are right I have been saying this for 20+ years and was always told I had no idea what I was talking about, made fun of etc…. I even had folks tell me to focus on how bad my team was. I will always be a Redskins/Commanders fan as well.

      1. I remember thinking you were a pats hater. There were many who truly were. Please please accept my sincere apology. I am beyond sorry.

A bad HC is not the worst thing. But one that destroys the career of a player is unforgivable. Even as a fan of my team, it just isn’t in my makeup to watch more

        1. No apologies needed, just glad his time is done. I never was a hater. I lost respect for him when he humiliated Joe Gibbs years ago. He’s everything I teach my kids not to be and the way he treats people is simply awful but everyone put up with it because they won.

  8. Oh I didn’t see the keep BB, no way he stays. Time to walk away and don’t hurt your legacy more than it already is.

And BTW saw Brady’s podcast and sorry he’s flat wrong about the league. He won’t be a good commentator either.

    1. Do you have a link to the podcast? Gronk disappointed me today too. But I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he is playing the game
