Sunday January 4 2025 Forecast (7:23AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 4-8)

A small disturbance passing by the region today will produce a touch of light snow in some spots this morning and maybe a few additional snow showers later today. The next system in an active but not-too-stormy pattern comes along later Monday when a clipper low from the west northwest moves through with some light snowfall Monday night. This exits but leaves moisture behind with abundant cloud cover on Tuesday. Any clearing that day will be a bonus. Quickly following up that system will be another one heading more to the east northeast, passing to our north during Wednesday. This system brings warmer air in aloft so that some rain will occur, but colder air near the ground can result in some pockets of freezing rain over interior sections early Wednesday. Expect drier weather to move in behind this system for Thursday, along with some gusty wind and colder air returning.

TODAY: Cloudy start with light snow and a couple embedded moderate snow showers with under 1/2 inch accumulation, then clouds give way to sun west to east late morning on. Highs 25-32. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with an evening snow shower possible, then clearing. Lows 10-17. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 21-28. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts early, then diminishing.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with light snow of up to 1 inch accumulation. Lows 13-20. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 28-35. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Pre-dawn light rain and away-from-coast freezing rain possible. Temperatures rise slowly into/through 30s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain. Highs 40-47. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 20-27. Wind W 5-15 MPH.,

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 35-43. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 9-13)

Unsettled weather potential from late January 9 to early January 11 – mix/rain favored over snow but details TBD. Colder air returns behind that system. Next low pressure trough brings a chance of light snowfall late in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 14-18)

Variable temperatures averaging around normal. Active pattern but continued indications for weaker systems and not major storms.

    1. Thanks for the warning. I’ll probably fail.

      Still snowing very lightly.
A solid coating, perhaps 1/4 inch. So sad that our snows are so paltry so far this season.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    26 here, low 25

    Ocean: 42

    Wordle: 4
Was hopelessly lost. Had to waste a word on guess 3 and it got me 2 more letters out of position to give me 3 outcof position and one in position. 4th guess got me the word.

BTW, today marks my longest streak of getting the word 32 straight games.

      1. Yes indeed, very popular car lately, But we are temporarily co-engineers, until someone gets it in 3. Perhaps that doesn’t happen today???

  2. Thanks TK !

    Wordle: 5

Nothing scientific, but when it’s had some chance of snowing this particular year, it has. At least in marshfield, I feel like the snow has overachieved 2 or 3 times now.

    1. For this word, 5 is good

Btw, I was in your fair town yesterday, unfortunately not on pleasure as we were attending a funeral service.

There was noticeably more snow down your way than up here.

      1. My condolences, JpDave.

That system a few days ago, did alright down here. Oh yes, the snow squall one, went right overhead.

      1. I seem to remember a couple days ago you mentioning your wife and upcoming surgery …… I hope she is doing ok !!!

        1. It’s this Tuesday Tom , she’s pretty much been in bed all week & it’s an extremely major , major surgery & a very tough recovery . I will be in & out of work for the next month , I appreciate you asking .

  3. Thank you, TK.

It’s a sign of desperation when we in the Boston area are measuring our snowfall in increments of one-tenth of an inch. The contrast with, say, the snows of 2015 couldn’t be starker.

      1. I still remember all the newspaper stories about how “Is snow a thing of the past?” … Yes, then. I have a couple of them saved. 🙂

        1. I remember not having storms but sure remember a number of big ones. We were married in a huge storm in December 78. And of course there we a few in early 78 😉

Our kids were born in 80, 84, 86 and we have a bunch of photos of them in snow and a few of Mac yelling….where is summer. Skiing was sparse and snowmaking was not good.

  4. The sun is now peaking through while steady very light snow. My maternal grandmother would always say that “the devil is beating his wife” (applies for rain as well). In addition it also means that there will be more precipitation the next day. There certainly will be tomorrow evening. 🙂

I truly believe those old weather sayings have merit!

    1. I was never a fan of that particular one. It’s in my book of folklore that I got a long time ago.

      1. I’m glad that you’ve at least heard of it. It’s certainly going to come to pass tomorrow evening. 🙂

Even I admit that one many times doesn’t pan out for the following day. 😉

        1. Most folkore is very loosely based on the observations of one person or a small group of people over time. So while there is some merit, there’s a LOT of “no, this doesn’t really work for many situations”. If I relied on folklore over science to forecast, my accuracy would go WAY, WAY, WAY down.

  5. I’d like to join the 4 car Also. JPD, I dishes same thing you did and used guess 3 just to get letter placement. Even then, it was not easy

  6. Just walked down to CVS in the Center. BEAUTIFUL day for a football game. A light breeze and decent temperatures 30-31 or so here. (30.5 now).

Go get em Pats. It looks like the #1 seed is almost hopeless with
the Chargers supposedly to rest many starters. What a BUMMER!!

I want Drake Maye to have six (6) touch down passes and 450 yards passing. I don’t want much, do I?

    1. Too bad that all the important games for the Patriots are on at the same time (4:25). The earlier games have no meaning at all AFAIC.

  7. The Jaguars are on now and are up by a lot. If they win and the Pats lose, I think that might make us the 3-seed, and we would potentially be on the road one week sooner.

  8. I have to admit getting a chuckle out of watching the fan population really really want a home playoff game.

I say: It doesn’t matter. And the mostly mythical home field advantage didn’t apply much to the Pats this season…

    Home record: 5-3
    Road record: 8-0

It does not matter where they play. They just have to play better than whatever team they play. That’s it.

        1. More concerned about getting injured players back.
I don’t really buy the “rust” factor. At least not with Vrabel as the coach. 🙂

  9. Went to the pats game today with my Dad. Stadium was full and could feel it shake. Totally different vibe than when i went when it was Bills last game against the Jets.. started snowing when leaving the stadium I will also say food and drink prices surprisingly not bad.
