Friday March 12 2021 Forecast (6:50AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 12-16)

Three cold fronts bring us back to reality and then some over the next few days, reminding us this is March, and for a handful of days-to-come, still winter. We start out pleasantly mild today as the first cold front goes through with a few sprinkles or light showers of rain (one occurring here as I write this at 6:30 a.m.), and the wind kicks up but we don’t really see any cold air with this first front, just a step-down from yesterday’s warmth, however still significantly above the mid March normal. It’s when the second front comes through tonight, perhaps with a rain or snow shower, that we see the first wave of cold surge into the region, accompanied by more wind overnight and into Saturday, enough that a few isolated power outages from downed tree limbs may occur. The wind will back of a bit during the day Saturday and while it will be significantly colder than today, the strong mid March sun (mixed with a few clouds) will keep it tolerable. The third cold front will come through during Sunday with a few clouds and an outside risk of a passing snow shower, but mainly its effect will be to bring in even colder air for Sunday night and Monday. The biggest question of this forecast is Tuesday. Low pressure will approach from the west with cold air still in place. The medium range guidance, no surprise, ranges widely in its outcomes from a miss and continued dry weather, to a measurable snowfall. I’ll put it as a chance for a variety of precipitation and will fine-tune from there.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy with a possible rain shower early morning, then mostly sunny. Highs 60-67 except 52-59 South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH shifting to W with higher gusts.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. A brief rain or snow shower possible mid evening. Lows 24-31. Wind NW 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-45 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 38-45. Wind N 10-20 MPH, gusts to around 30 MPH in the morning, diminishing in the afternoon.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 24-31. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy Highs 40-47 in the morning. Falling temperatures in the afternoon. Wind 5-15 MPH morning, shifting to N and increasing to 15-25 MPH with higher gusts afternoon.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 13-20. Wind N 10-20 MPH, higher gusts. Wind chill near to slightly below 0 at times.

MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 30-37. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, diminishing.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clear evening. Increasing clouds overnight. Lows 15-22. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of snow/mix/rain. Highs 33-40. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 17-21)

We’ll be just on the colder side of a boundary between a continued cold Canada and a warmer US Southeast, as previously mentioned. What remains to be seen is if and when any storminess will impact our region. After eyeing a potential for Tuesday, we look for another one around March 18-19 based on current timing. While the general pattern is not too tough to see, the day-to-day weather is, so this is an area that much more analysis will be needed going forward.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 22-26)

The overall regime will keep us in a battle zone between lingering winter cold in Canada and warmer spring weather in the US Southeast, again typical for this time of year. This pattern leaves us vulnerable to quick weather changes and temperature swings.

  1. Good morning and thanks TK. Could certainly get used to the current temps.

Quick question on the wind tonight. NWS seems to paint a more dramatic event while TV Mets and you give top gusts around 40. Does it look less of an impact than last week? Also hoping for low level event Tuesday as I have first moderna scheduled.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

We made it to 73 here in JP yesterday and we are now sitting
at 57 with plenty of sunshine out there. “Should” make mid
    60s. We shall see.

  3. Thanks TK. Pre-registered my wife and I on the new State covid site with ease just now. Everyone can register and when your phase comes at some point once in that phase, you will be contacted for an appointment to accept. You have to accept or decline the appointment within 24 hours once you get contacted.

      1. Yes, it is! We did that this morning too, and it was easy.
Then I “randomly” found an appointment at a CVS! You never know….

        1. Excellent. My wife is in Roxbury now right down the street from my work getting shot number 1.

  4. Thanks TK. I’m hoping for a miss next Tuesday as I finally was able to get a vaccine appointment for my Dad and it is that day.

  5. Pats fans got great news today , YEAH RIGHT signed cam to a one year deal , oh well !!

      1. Nope , unreal. I’m sorry he definitely is not your fix & it’s ridiculous what they are giving him .

  6. Had Logan not adjusted their thermometer awhile back, their temperature yesterday would have easily been recorded at 77 or 78. Of course, if skies had been totally clear from the start of the day, those temps might very well have been achieved anyway.

Since it was cloudy much of the morning, I was starting to wonder if any record would be broken.

      1. Yes, can void after 1 year.

I think its a contract re-do to lower Brady´s salary impact on the Bucs cap. They are still over after franchising Godwin and signing a couple other defensive players who were going to be free agents.

  7. DP´s have fallen off the cliff today.

Know NWS put out a special weather statement for fire weather today.

With breeze, full sun and extremely low RH´s, hope anyone doing a spring burn today is being very careful.

    1. I was thinking the same. Do most towns require either permits or notification by the person planning to burn? Although that doesn’t include fire pits. I’d hope people are smart enough not to use.

    2. Heard big backyard fire going on I Halifax Tom with boats & cars on fire . I do not know anything else just what was posted on Facebook.

  8. DB …
To answer your question from this morning, I don’t think the wind event will be nearly to the magnitude of the one we saw just over a week ago.

As far as the Tuesday thing.. jury’s out.

  9. Topped out at kids were playing in hose day. Thinking colder than yesterday temp wise, but then it is all relevant when you are a child.

  10. I hope Cam Newton wins 10 games next season so the whiners all over Facebook can shut their mouths and just enjoy the damn game for what it is. My goodness. Patriots Nation has become a bunch of spoiled brats. 😛 Yeah, he wasn’t great last year, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to suck this year. If you give up on them before we even remotely get close to the season, please do yourself and the rest of us a favor and ROOT FOR TAMPA BAY! (Rant over.)

    1. You just echoed my thoughts. They hate Brady for leaving when BB took advantage of him the entire two decades and they hate cam for ?..well, who the hell knows. I seem to recall someone saying something about Boston fans…..just cannot recall who

      1. I continue to hope TB has success with TB. I’m of the opinion that folks who think he “screwed us over” or something by leaving are a little to full of themselves, as if he was giving them the finger when leaving. I don’t get it…

        1. Agree. He was taken advantage of for the entire two decades. He gave his all. The powers that be did not

  11. Rain and wind in the low countries. Yet another gale along the immediate Dutch coastline. That’s been a theme this week and will carry on into next week. A parade of lows coming in from the Atlantic and making their way across the North Sea. The Netherlands hasn’t had a sunny day in about 10 days.

    1. Joshua, I mentioned that storm a couple of days ago as my brother who lives in Denver told me.
He has promised to send pics which hopefully will be good enough to post for all of us to see “spring time in the Rockies. “

  12. Staggering numbers, quite frankly, particularly when you consider how high the baseline already was. See graph with increases in cases in the past 2 weeks across Europe. You can see the countries that have been doing well recently – Spain and Portugal – and the ones that have not. By the way, this analysis includes days through March 10th, but doesn’t include yesterday and today when the highest case numbers were recorded in the Netherlands since January. https://twitter.com/AndyVermaut/status/1370449815692185602/photo/1

  13. Patriots last year were 4 to 6 plays away from being 10-6/9-7 and being in the playoffs. They were competitive against play off teams.

Cam before covid was throwing the ball the best he has since his rookie season. He did not have the best of passing stats but I believe he had the second most rushing TDs by a QB. after the covid that he had, he had 2 real bad games.
He did not have an off season, did not have time with the receivers. Byrd was considered top 5 in terms of getting off the line of scrimmage. Meyers was getting use as well. Harry of course I just dislike and think he needs to go.

My point is that I feel like on offense, we were a Receiver, TE and O-Line member away from being in the playoffs even with Cam.
Defense getting many people. back from covid
I also feel the pats signing Cam does not mean they will not select a QB in the draft.
