DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 7-11)
Another discussion written while waiting for my medication to correct an atrial fib episode, so keeping it a bit brief. No big changes anyway. Windy/chilly weather today and again Saturday after a brief lull in the wind tonight. The wind gusts can exceed 50 MPH especially in higher elevations and open areas today, with scattered tree damage and resultant power outages. Some Great Lakes moisture can produce a few stray snow flurries mainly west of Boston later today, and with the help of a quick-passing disturbance a few snow showers can occur overnight / Saturday morning. Here’s your like-it-or-not reminder that we make the switch back to Daylight Saving Time by “springing forward” early Sunday morning (2:00 a.m. becomes 3:00 a.m. officially). The wind diminishes on Sunday, another fair but chilly day. Sunday night and Monday morning a small low pressure area will dive east southeastern from Canada through the Upper Great Lakes and across the Northeast and can trigger a few rain and snow showers. That moves on quickly and more fair weather is ours late Monday through Tuesday.
TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. A stray snow flurry is possible, mainly west of I-95. Highs 35-42. Wind W 15-30 MPH, gusts 45-55 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. A passing snow flurry possible. Lows 18-25. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusts 30+ MPH.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated to scattered snow showers until midday. Highs 30-37. Wind W 15-30 MPH, gusts 35-50 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 18-25. Wind W diminishing to 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 37-44. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusts 20-25 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 20-27. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of snow showers except rain or snow showers south of I-90 during the morning. Highs 43-50. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 33-40. Wind S under 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 50-57. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 12-16)
Fair weather for a few days followed by an unsettled weather potential for the March 15-16 weekend.
DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 17-21)
Additional unsettled weather and variable temperatures during this period. Vernal equinox occurs early morning on March 20.
Philip .. this is how close we came. I wasn’t kidding when I was eyeing the potential several days ago. But this is why we update. Nothing is a guarantee in the medium range.
Here’s the forecast for just 2 states away…

Yes !
Last night on the Ogunquit webcam, I’m 99% sure it was snowing about 10pm, so that came really close to coming together for even our area.
It was a very close call. But this is why I say what I do about not ruling things out. I know all about climatology, and now it becomes less likely with time as you move through late winter into spring. I learned that long ago. 😉
But you get it, so I don’t need to explain that to you. 🙂
Thanks TK! Of course Maine almost always gets the good stuff we in MA miss out.
Maine gets more snow because of location.
We in SNE are never in the right “location” for snow.
Except when we are, several times every winter (and sometimes Spring).
Never?
Boston’s average is 49.
They also just came off the snowiest 30 years in recorded history.
Ok I agree. Not too shabby. 🙂
Thanks TK !
Walked out the door this morning to what had to be a 50 mph wind gust.
Oh, most importantly, I hope the meds kick in soon to ease your latest episode.
They kicked in a bit faster this time. Just under 2 hours. 8 days ago it was just over 2 hours. 🙂
Awesome news. I hope you continue to feel better
Thanks TK
Good morning and thank you TK
Good morning, thanks tk. Your medication had better kick in soon or else I’m gunna shrink down Rick Moranis and direct him to pump your heart in rhythm.
The constant wind has sounded wild outside all night. In Hingham a big tree fell and caused outages near worlds end. (Thankfully not near my house!)
I’m back in NSR!
Thanks TK.

The Quabbin.
The Quabbin as of March 1st is at 345 billion gallons which is about 84% of its capacity, 412 billion gallons. On March 1, 2024, it was at 407 billion gallons.
The water level is lower than it has been in quite a while … years actually. However, 84% is considered within the normal range. The Quabbin fluctuates quite a bit especially when compared to other reservoirs such as the Wachusett Reservoir. I think the normal range for Quabbin is 80% of capacity or higher.
For the past year, I have been reading, off and on, about reservoirs in MA . What I have read is surface level stuff (yes, pun intended) and I think I would have gotten an F if I had been a student of hydrology.
Thank you, Longshot. The larger water areas out this way seem low to me. I’m still not as familiar with them as I was the Framingham Wayland Sudbury areas
I’m throwing in the towel on snow…putting the boots and snow pants away. Hopefully that prompts a big storm…and if not at least the mudroom is a little less cluttered.
According to the science of meteorology, it should work!
“snow pants”
Haven’t heard that term since I was a kind.
My snow pants = JEANS
Thank you, TK. Hopefully, you can have a restful day.
Total Snowfalls to date: ❄️
ORH = 33.3”
BOS = 28.1”
NYC = 12.9”
NYC should be done with snow. The “postseason” is now BOS vs. ORH with BOSTON looking for #5! ❄️ 🙂
And here’s the BIG board for all of the Northeast:

Thanks & feel better tk . I am not exaggerating the wind here has been absolutely intense since last night . It is really blowing hard ( damaging winds )
Thanks, TK.
Hope your meds kick in.
Thanks, TK…
Feel better soon, amigo!
Yeah, the winds woke me up 2-3 times overnight.
It’s been a very windy winter, hasn’t it?
The wind events are happening more & more .
We just came off 3 years of below average wind.
Wow would have never known that with all the events that we have had
Recently, we’ve had a lot. But over the 3 year long haul, not that many.
Thanks TK. Hope you are feeling better. Two day wind event. Hopping no one gets damage.
Thanks TK, glad to hear you are feeling better.
Wind was intense in Coventry last night as well and woke me up a few times. Kids actually had no school today due to power outages at the high school and trees down locking a few roadways.
20,524 without power right now in CT and 11, 462 in MA as of noon.
Ugh. I turned fridge down and am keeping devices charged.
Thanks all.
Tired but good! The tiredness is a combo of the med I had to take and being up since 4:50 a.m.
Feel better TK
Wind blew scaffolding down in Back Bay. Don’t think anyone got hurt. Fell to the street on top of cars.
They left the tarps on. Bad move.
Yup!
Yikes. Bad move indeed
My wife is about leave South Carolina and fly to Boston. Do you still think it will be an uneventful trip due to the wind? She lands around 630 and it does seem winds diminish somewhat by sundown. Thank.
Are the Bruins having a fire sale?
Marchand gone, coyle gone carlo gone. wha is happenibg???
Time to clean house. Maybe the Pats should take a hint. 😉
TBH, I’m not surprised at any of this. We develop attachments to players. It happens, but they have decided they are going to really clear things out. Now, can they properly rebuild? It’s not going to happen overnight, so I hope fans are patient.
If you’re referring that the Patriots should clean house, I thought that’s what they’ve been doing since the last game in January. How much more cleaning is necessary?
You really should become a member of Celtics nation for now!
They have been, but maybe they didn’t quite finish the job. I don’t know. We’ll see. 🙂
They have had problems all year. They have player problems and problems managing the puck at key points in the game. The offense needs strengthening and the discipline and energy has fallen way off. They are going to have to turn it all upside down. Of course, i still watch every game.
Just down the road (across the main road I live next to and down a side street) a tree has come down across lines. Power out nearby. We only had a brief interruption here then it came right back. Others not so lucky. That road is closed while the tree is removed and repairs are made to the lines.
Today is the anniversary of the loss of my oldest brother. He passed on Friday March 7 1997. I was very sick with the 3rd of 3 straight infections, this one a strep-pneumonia that I’m 99.9% sure I acquired in the hospital several days prior while visiting my brother. Regardless, it was nasty, and I was too sick to return to see him again after March 3, which was the last time I saw him. While it’s a tough anniversary, I’ve turned it into a happier occasion over the years with musical memories of my brother. This afternoon I’ll visit his memorial bench and the Angel of Hope statue at Horn Pond in Woburn, where he has a brick memorializing him. My son will come with me. He never met his uncle, but is very inspired by his musical talent and musical taste, which he has experienced through recordings I have. Some of it is inspiration in his own work, and the work we also do as a duo.
I’ll be back a bit later with some weather commentary, but at quick glance I might not need to add anything to what I already wrote in my discussion…
Sending love to you, your mom and your brothers, TK❤️
Go ahead and do whatever you need to do to honor your brother. No rush to return here. 🙂
It looks like the Sox just won a pre-season football game 20-5 🙂
Thank you TK!
TK, may your brother’s memory be a blessing. Although his passing happened 28 years ago, still it’s a forever moment. You lost your brother at a young age. That’s painful.
Take care.
Thank you, and thank you to everybody for kind words about my brother and my mini health war (which I won). 🙂
Today is National Brian Day – a day to show some appreciation to all the wonderful Bryans or Brians in your life
I know one Brian I am very thankful for
Brians are usually pains in the butt. 😉 I lead that parade..haha!
j/k
Haha. I don’t believe it for a second.
Thank you! TK
