Friday August 21 2026 Forecast (6:49AM)

DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 21-25)

A quasi-stationary frontal boundary will host a pathway for a few low pressure disturbances to pass by our region through Sunday, keeping the weather somewhat unsettled through the weekend. It won’t rain all the time, but opportunities are there, particularly today into this evening and late Saturday night into Sunday morning, and favoring areas further east and south. A broad trough has to move from the region from west to east later in the weekend and early next week, and this will allow the pattern to warm slightly with more variable cloud cover, but with shower and thunderstorm opportunities Sunday and Monday, perhaps lingering into Tuesday.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Shower chances shift mainly I-95 belt southeastward. Highs 71-78. Dew point around 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Fog patches. Showers most likely I-95 belt southeastward. Lows 60-67. Dew point 60+. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy start with greatest shower chances I-95 belt southeastward, then a sun / cloud mix with a pop-up shower possible. Highs 76-83. Dew point near 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers most likely overnight and favoring the I-95 belt eastward. Patchy fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point near 60. Wind S under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Early morning showers favor eastern areas. Fog patches during the morning. Afternoon pop-up showers and thunderstorms possible. Highs 78-85. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. A shower possible. Lows 62-69. Dew point 60+. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers possible. Chance of thunderstorms. Highs 78-85. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Chance of a shower. Lows 61-68. Dew point near 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of a shower. Highs 78-85. Dew point near to below 60. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 26-30)

Watch for a couple disturbances and shower chances, but overall more dry times than wet ones. Temperatures near normal.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 31 – SEPTEMBER 4)

A couple disturbances may induce shower chances, but the pattern overall looks more dry than wet. Temperatures near normal.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    Ocean: 70

    Wordle: 4

Weather last evening royally screwed up my son’s flight home from Arizona last night.
They were delayed coming into JFK and the their connecting flight to Boston was delayed a bunch of times and finally cancelled. All flights totally messed up in NYC. Airline got them a free uber, hotel and breakfast. They have a rental car at 9Am and will be driving home.

Ugh… he normally would have flown non-stop, but 2 friends took a cheaper flight with nyc connections and he wanted to join them. I HATE connecting flights!!!

    1. Excellent 4, JpDave !

Another big rain event for NYC area airports, sorry that clearly had a big effect on his flight.

      1. Thanks JpDave !

I think a first wordle occurrence for me. On my third guess, I had all 5 letters, 3 in the correct spot and 2 that needed to be switched around. I don’t remember that having happened before.

        1. Me as well. I wonder if the same?

Imgbb is down for maintenance, else I would post mine.
          I’ll try a bit later.

  2. Wordle was a gift. My two starter words gave me four letters ….none in correct position. The word popped into my head immediately…midnight magic

    Wordle 3

          1. Ohhh I like that idea. I’ve never been. The train cars have pontoons, so we are all set. And it’s the weekend

    1. I will help with the engineering duties today, unless someone comes up with a 1 or 2!

My first guess gave me four letters all in the wrong place. The second guess put all four into the correct position.

  3. Up to 0.10 of an inch of rain overnight. Got Wordle in 4, but had 4 letters in correct position on second try. Too many choices.

Also, I was in Bermuda in May. Never have I witnessed such strong wind and I live along the coast. Luckily, it wasn’t my first time there, so the wind and rain didn’t dampen our spirits.

  4. Jumping to front of the train with another 2! Had 4 yellow letters with first guess and picked the right option on 2!

  5. Vicki posted above and from other various prognostications, it seems a common theme of upcoming fall is projections of slightly above avg temps, with accuweather, I believe putting a number range of +1 to +2F in their prediction.

I bring that up because through August 21st, 3 of the 4 major climate reporting stations are running in the vicinity of 1-2F above average. So, relative to August, this is what 1-2F above average feels like. Not too bad.

Incidentally, Logan, as in recent months is running higher in its anomaly at +3.7F lending credence to TK’s thoughts that it’s running a degree or so too warm. I’ll admit I’ve looked at that idea with some question, but now this is yet another month where Logan’s positive anomaly is running around 1-1.2F higher than all the other major climate reporting stations in southern New England.

    1. Thank you Tom

Did you ck the other stations around Logan. I suspect you saw the spreadsheet I kept and Logan was consistently in line with all of them. Still is when I remember ck now.

        1. I saw some of those readings around Logan and imho, many are just as bogus or worse than Logan.

Some of those are home weather stations subject to radiation shield issues causing high temperature readings in sunshine.

          1. The ones I used I believe are Nws stations. Although the Mets that I spoke to did compare to both weather spotters and nearby stations. So far no one has an issue. Two sent the study published 7 years ago and ongoing that I shared here

As I suspect everyone knows, I believe in reaching out to folks to get every side of an issue. Our Mets are great resources and I find very responsive. Their contact info is pretty easy to find.

Andy is a pleasure to speak with. He has said I can share his name.

            1. all well and good, but I saw some of those stations and no one on earth can tell me that they were all legit.
sorry. I call em as I see em. 🙂

  6. https://www.goes.noaa.gov/sector_band.php?sat=G19&sector=ne&band=GEOCOLOR&length=24

Nice sfc low pressure, as far as being easy to find on satellite.

Actually, this has been a nice gentle rain, allowed to soak into the ground very well and it’s probably amounted to .3 to .5 on the south shore and were an area that hasn’t cashed in on some of these large rain totals that have occurred further west in the last several weeks.

It stinks for anyone wanting a beach day, but it’s still very much needed in marshfield, at least.

Temporarily, the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia had some marine level air help out with the wildfires.

    But ….

    https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?m=gfs&p=500wh&rh=2026082112&fh=6&r=ca_w&dpdt=&mc=

Some ridging, along with sunshine and warmer temps have returned and poof, not surprisingly, the wild fire smoke has increased a bit again.

We’ll have to see what gets released and if it gets caught up in the jet stream (500 mb) flow to determine if we see any many days down the road.

  8. If anyone is hoping for it, I don’t see that first, what would be, very, very early fall airmass.

Like sunny and struggling to 72-73F in the coastal plain with a healthy NW wind and dps in the low-mid 60s. Staying in the 60s in Worcester and western Mass. Then, that night, mid-upper 40s in suburbia and Logan getting under 60F. That kind of airmass. Don’t see it.

See avg to slightly above avg. lots of upper 70s to mid 80s on the warmer days. Dps in the 50s to 60s during the muggier days and nighttime’s in the 50s and 60s.

I like it. Not ready for a very, very early cool plunge yet and I don’t want to see heat return that is tough for some.
