DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 29 – SEPTEMBER 2)

As we head into the final weekend of August, there is a little update on the outlook – not a huge change, but the timing of the next disturbance is faster, so that clouds and a passing shower chance come back during Sunday afternoon and evening. Otherwise, it’s a fairly dry weekend with high pressure in control today and early Sunday before it slips offshore to make way from the disturbance from the west northwest. This system goes by quickly enough so that Monday, the final day of August, looks quite nice. September opens with a bout of unsettled weather from a pair of disturbances traveling through our region in a west northwest flow Tuesday and Wednesday. Episodic showers are likely, but the exact timing / details are to-be-determined as we get a little closer to those days.

TODAY: Partly cloudy this morning. Mostly sunny this afternoon. Highs 75-82. Dew point in 50s. Wind W to variable up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Ground fog patches. Lows 56-63. Dew point in 50s. Wind W under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sunshine most prominent morning, then variably cloudy with a passing shower possible afternoon. Highs 77-84. Dew point sub-60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes then S up to 10 MPH late-day.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. A shower chance early. Patchy fog late. Lows 58-65. Dew point sub-60. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 76-83, coolest eastern coastal areas. Dew point sub-60. Wind W shifting to NE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Fog patches. Lows 56-63. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Highs 66-73. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Chance of a shower. Lows 58-65. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs 67-74. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 3-7)

Trending fair early to mid period before unsettled weather chances return toward the end of the period. Temperatures near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 8-12)

Fair weather early and late period with unsettled weather between that at mid period. Temperatures somewhat variable but fairly close to normal overall.

    I think the DP in Marshfield was 72F well into the evening yesterday after a decent rain shower around 6pm.

    No longer :). I opened the window and was met with a huge change and can see the DP is now not much above 50F.

  7. Vicki SPC has maintained that risk for my area now in the day 5 outlook. Yesterday they had in the day 6 outlook which is rare for the SPC to highlight an area in the northeast that many days in advance. Just looking at the area highlighted it looks like a potential MCS.

    2. Yup.

      500 mb ridge centered over the Ohio Valley.

      A bit of a 500 mb low or disturbance in east-central Canada and btwn those 2, a strong WNW flow nearby the northeast.

      High heat in the Ohio Valley, mild in southern Canada.

      Disturbances traveling in the strong WNW flow and with that big temp contrast, I think a decent potential for an MCS from this far out.

  9. Tom it seems that signal has been there for this potential particularly on Wednesday. I expect this to change multiple times between now and then.

    1. In its location, yes.

      My guess is a slight southwest change to the location.

      Maybe western NY state to central PA to the mid Atlantic and then a shower area further northeast of that.

    Sox are playing a day-night doubleheader today. The first game is on now on NESN. Sox are up, 1-0, top of the third. The night game is at 7:15 on FOX.

    Tomorrow’s afternoon game is at 1:35 on NESN.

    Im a bus to Vermont. A 10k tomorrow early morning. Part of my London marathon prep. Hard to believe, but just 4 weeks from now the green leaves I am seeing here will be many different colors. Blessed autumn.

      1. If they can get a sweep tonight they’ll be a guarantee to at least split the series. They need to stay as close to the Yankees as possible for a shot of home field in the WC.

        Otherwise it’s consecutive games at Yankee Stadium in the WC…Y-U-C-K!!!

    1. The pattern there changed a while ago. Also, it wasn’t all of Europe. The media only talked about where it was hot, not where it wasn’t.

      Additionally, rain at one location does not inform of the weather for the entire continent. It’s important to look beyond Ireland for that context.
