DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 1-5)
September opens with a stretch of unsettled weather as a couple disturbances move through the Northeast in a west northwest flow aloft. The first one brings fairly widespread showers to our region this morning into midday before tapering off. The second one’s rainfall is to be concentrated in the late night Wednesday to early morning Thursday time frame, with a fairly cloudy but rain-free day between that on Wednesday. Behind the second batch of wet weather Thursday comes breaks with higher humidity as we’re briefly in the warm sector of the second system before a cold front brings a shower and thunderstorm chance later that day. By Friday and Saturday, the system has exited and high pressure attempts to build in at the surface while upper level low pressure lingers aloft. This means that each of those days carries the chance of pop-up showers, but many more dry hours then not, along with cooler weather.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely, especially mid morning to midday before tapering northwest to southeast. Highs 67-74. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Chance of a shower. Lows 58-65. Wind variable to E up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of a shower. Patchy fog early. Highs 67-74. Wind variable to E 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely mainly overnight. Lows 56-63. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy with showers likely early, then clouds break for sun at times with an additional shower or thunderstorm chance in the afternoon. Highs 70-77. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. A shower possible early, especially southeastern MA and RI. Lows 55-62. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sun / cloud mix. A pop-up shower possible. Highs 68-75. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 53-60. Wind N up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sun / cloud mix. A pop-up shower possible. Highs 66-73. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 6-10)
Decreased but non-zero pop-up shower chance September 6. Next frontal system arrives late September 7 with shower chances, mainly at night, so the final two days of Labor Day Weekend are also mainly dry. Shower chances early September 8 and again September 10 with passing frontal systems. Temperatures near to slightly above normal.
DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 11-15)
Up-and-down temperature pattern with a couple unsettled weather episodes with quick-passing systems heading into mid month.
Good mornimg and thank you TK
68 and that was low

Wordle: I am totally lost. After 3 guesses, I have 4 letters, only 1 in position. NOTHING is coming to me and letter substitution has been useless only getting nonsense words. Will try later.
Welcome September! Perhaps the very best month of the year.
Good luck finishing today’s word off.
Ditto on Wordle. I have 3 letters after 3 guesses. No letters in correct position and absolutely no clue on word
I got Wordle in 4. Luckily, I had the first 2 letters in correct position on 2nd guess. You’ll get it.
Nice 4 Bill.
Very nice 4
Thank you, TK.
Thanks TK !
Wordle: 5
7am is early 🙂
At least we got to our big meeting location before the rain started.
Nice 5 Tom. IF I get the word today, it will be a 5 or a 6. Likely will NOT get it. TOTALLY and completely LOST!!!!!!
Great 5
Philip…
In case you missed my answer yesterday…
I asked if you could cite the media source that blamed the Nepal disaster on climate change.
Bedrock failures are not a result of climate change. That disaster was caused by a bedrock failure.
Those floods have been happening in those valleys periodically over tens of thousands of years. This one just happened to cascade right through a region that was built on.
There are many sources. This is one of the more interesting. It is based on the research of multiple scientists. Science.org has a media rating of highly factual. Warming cannot be ruled out.

That is fascinating. Thank you Vicki.
Thank you and you’re very welcome. A lot to digest but fascinating is a great description
Thank you TK!
Wordle: 4
Wow!!! Great job.
Wow. Awesome 4

Wordle. Just had a moment and tried again.
I got it in 5, but should have been 4 as I screwed up on 4th guess.
Oh well. 🙂 PHEW I got it. I feel good about that. 🙂
Awesome. Please send vibes my way
I did the same on my second guess. Left out one of the correct letters I had already chosen. Hate when I do that!
We have 0.13″ of rain so far.
I got Wordle in 3.
Very well done!!
3 is terrific
Nice 3! I’m joking the 4 car
Joking = joining? if so, great job!!!
Well done.
Well done!
Thanks TK! So much for having to be concerned about a flash drought in our area. Went from 12 inches of rain in July to very little in August and now we are getting a nice soaking today. Much needed.
Thanks TK. 64/63 low of 64
Thanks TK
Has anyone seen the new “Virtual Studio” on the WBZ weather segments? Call me a curmudgeon, but it’s a distraction to me. I get nothing from seeing a giant person walking over the map of Massachusetts. In fact, I end up with less understanding of what’s expected. The met is carrying a fairly large screen around and often looking down at it instead of at the camera.
Bring back The Hippy Dippy Weatherman! 🙂
Here ya go

Also a nice statement contained within.
Thanks TK.
We had 1.02″ new in the rain gauge so far this morning when I left Coventry around 9AM this morning for a total of 1.75″ new in the last two days. We are now tracking above normal for precipitation on the year.
Wow. Zero yesterday and 0.35 today
I can honestly say I’ve never spent this long on wordle. Not sure if it’s the word or me. My guess goes to the latter

Decent tiny little vortex
Here is another article supporting what TK said above regarding the cause of the Nepal flood being a bedrock failure:
https://www.theweek.in/news/world/2026/08/28/new-satellite-images-reveal-surprise-cause-of-nepal-floods-not-just-a-glacier.html
Some scientists believe that melting permafrost helped accelerate the bedrock failure which in turn resulted in the massive glacial collapse. However, as noted by TK and noted in the last sentence of the article, destabilization of mountainsides, slope failures, and landslides have been happening naturally long before humans even existed on the planet.
Furthermore, this region is known for its glacier collapses, which are exacerbated by the fact that the Himalayas are slowly rising because of tectonic movement. This causes glaciers to become steeper and more precarious, making it more likely that their lower sections will shear off.
With respect to climate change, that data does also support the Himalayas are warming over time:
https://x.com/paolozamparutti/status/2092970364670235082?s=20
So I think it’s impossible to definitely say what the root cause of this natural disaster was. It was a natural geological occurrence for sure….the question is whether the frequency of events like this are being accelerated by climate change.
Interesting. Thank you. Cook is one of the scientists in the link I shared. I do not believe that anyone can say definitively that it was or was not climate change. Not yet. And warming can definitely accelerate a natural occurrence
The scientists have already done extensive investigations and it seems it will continue

Good grief. Wordle had never taken this long. Not even close. And it isn’t even that difficult

Welcome to the 5 car!!!!
Holy First Day of Meteorological Fall! Just went for a lunch meeting and steady rain and 62 degrees. Yikes!

❄️ Check out the snowy view this morning from the Eielson Visitor Center in Denali NP! The nearby weather station recorded a low temperature of 28°F this morning, with the FAA webcam capturing clear skies and plenty of fresh snow surrounding North America’s highest peak. #akwx

Beautiful
Oh no…I can’t!
This is one of the most insane videos I have seen yet of the Nepal flood taken from the hillside above. Really shows how intense and sudden the torrent of water was racing down the valley. Obliterating everything. No one in its path stood a chance.

Before and after photo of one of the towns in the valley. Note how even those buildings high up above the river were obliterated as the raging flood waters took the entire hillside down that they were built on.

Western part of circulation is impressive.
Gusting to just under hurricane force.
Thanks, TK.
According to a Boston Globe beat writer:
“Chad Tracy said on WEEI that Adley Rutschman’s hyperextended elbow is still an issue and probably will be for the rest of the season.”
My only criticism of Tracy is that he downplays injuries as much as he does around the time an injury occurs. Then, invariably, things go downhill from there, meaning the injury becomes (much) worse over time. While this could be an issue with the medical staff feeding him overly optimistic information, I think it’s best for managers to say almost nothing or leave it vague (“we’ll see how things are tomorrow and later this week … and re-evaluate”), rather than what Tracy invariably says: “It’s nothing really, just day to day, he’ll be fine.”
The team should just concentrate on winning as many games as possible and beat up on inferior opponents to stay ahead in the WC race. A 5-6 game lead is a bonus but can be as quickly gone in a flash.
Forget the Yankees for now. An October date in the Bronx is INEVITABLE!!!
I am now watching CNN and they are reporting that Chinese-Nepal officials are specifically blaming “global warming” for the collapse. Other scientists agree as well.
TK and others – Don’t blame the messenger (me)! 🙂
It was CNN where I first heard the “glacier” talk yesterday btw.
People can blame whatever/whomever they want. It certainly could be global warming but to declare it is absolutely global warming 2 -3 days after an event is more talk than science.
Scientific study is necessary to determine the root cause of the event. There is the natural geologic process of exfoliation that causes small to enormous rockfalls which in turn can cause ice sheets to fall. Is exfoliation the cause? Maybe or maybe not.
Excellent Longshot ! In full agreement !
Typing same time. I obviously agree
Maybe not typing at the same time. I absolutely agree.
There is a left bias with CNN. Both Mark’s and my links are science based. While I understand that no one can say it’s definitely warming, I also believe there is much more reliable research to be done

Beaumont Port Arthur, which appears to be many miles inland.
Strong tropical storm made landfall. Very close to a hurricane.
Trivia question. Been humming this all day
Title and artist ???
…. when the rain beats against my window pane
I’ll think of summer days again
And dream of you
Is that from a group in England like in the 60’s or 70’s?
1964 and yes from England
About 90 minutes ago the Heat index in Belmar, New Jersey was 104 while the actual temp here on the South Coast was 61. What a difference. Setting the stage for big storms tomorrow night?
Disturbance crossing PA across that boundary firing big storms in PA, near NYC, into NJ, etc.
Warm air and warm front will provide some rain in New England Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
https://radar.weather.gov/station/KDIX/standard
Rough, rough weather.
Yikes
Raining so hard at US OPEN you can hear rain hitting roof while watching on tv
Sox getting bombarded in the 2nd.
7-1 bottom 3rd.
They shouldn’t be having these pitching issues at home, especially against sub-.500 teams.
Tonight is a case where they didn’t have anyone available on the major league staff to pitch the game.
They called up a minor league pitcher to save the pitching staff. He’s not MLB level ready. He’s given up 8 runs and they are leaving him in. It’s a sacrifice to save the staff, basically understanding it was going to be difficult to win this one game. That’s why last night’s win was so awesome and crucial.
If Baltimore wins tonight, they are 5 back and Sox play in Baltimore a 4 game set this weekend with an injury depleted bullpen, without Contreras and some aches in their starting rotation.
Nothing as far as a wild card spot is yet guaranteed.
I know it’s early, but I’ve been playing around with some coding and AI combos with temp and Precipitation anomalies based on the climate models. I have my doubts lol. Its spitting out avg to slightly above normal snowfall for New England
Not out of the realm of possibility, especially interior New England. Should have the moisture to work with given the El Nino and there will be other indices, if they work in our favor, that could get some cold shots in here. Not to mention a mild and above normal precip winter does not necessarily translate to below normal snow.
The 2012-2013 winter comes to mind…it was an El Nino year (albeit weak) and I received 100″ of snow in Coventry. An early season noreaster the weekend after Sandy, the 32″ blizzard in Feb 2013, and a 20″ wet March snowstorm off a norlun trough from a storm 1000 miles out in the Atlantic were some of the highlights. It was a mild but above normal precip winter. Lots of snow overall but it melted in between storms and we never had a consistent snowpack.
Not expecting the cold winter we had last year with a deep snowpack for 2 months but I could see us pulling off another above average season with a couple of El Nino fueled coastal storms.
Hi Matt. Great to see you here. And that works for me.
Thanks TK.
Looks like it’s rained some the last few weeks, kids had the dog in Maine while we were at and they did say that it rained a little more than what they’ve noticed recently.
Just returned from an amazing adventure in Africa. TK’s forecast was spot on. Visited Rwanda Kenya and Tanzania with the company I work for. If you are on social media and friends with me you will see the highlights.
One major observation and I am sure others see this traveling is that the world is going have serious issues when it comes to clean water. You might not see climate change in your backyard, but Africa tells a very different story. Animal migratory patterns, tribals relocations to be water sourced areas etc.. lack of clean drinking water in general. You might question it has a hoax, not serious issues bc of your political beliefs, bc it doesn’t directly impact you etc.. Traveling will change that for of thinking and traveling to africa will have a far bugger impact on how you think about.
All I can say there are many misconceptions about Africa, I mean places had issues but where doesn’t. The joy and happiness from the people is breathtaking. Go if you ever get the opportunity and fly business if you can 🙂
Welcome home. Sounds like an awesome trip! Definitely would love to get there one day. It is on my bucket list.
Welcome home. Happy to see you here. Exceptional post.
Mac spent years testing air and land and water. I’ve said here often that he warned about water. And that was in the early 2010s. Yet we do nothing.
