Thursday October 8 2026 Forecast (7:12AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 8-12)

Low pressure cutting across southeastern Canada will drag a trough then a cold front across our region today. These boundaries, while advancing rather quickly, have little moisture to work with, thus limiting the shower chance with just isolated to scattered activity occurring along each boundary. Post cold front, there will be a quick clearing trend so that most areas from the I-95 belt westward end the day with abundant sunshine while the last of the clouds push through RI and southeastern MA with the last of any showers exiting those areas by sunset. While we have a mild day today, the breeze will be active, shifting from southwest to west, then northwest as each boundary moves through. Tonight and Friday see the delivery of a cooler air mass on a northwesterly breeze with dry weather. High pressure moves overhead Friday night, setting up radiational cooling under a clear sky with calm wind. This leads to the chance of frost again mainly in areas away from the coast and urban centers. Saturday itself will feature plenty of sun and a nice temperature turn-around after the chilly start. High pressure slides off to the northeast by Sunday when we’ll see increasing cloud cover ahead of incoming low pressure. This system, a combination of a mid latitude system from the west and tropical moisture associated with whatever remains of Hurricane Isaias in the Gulf – expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast this weekend. While the storm will rapidly weaken once it does that, the moisture plume associated with it will join the system from the west and bring us a period of rain Sunday night into Monday before exiting the region. Based on current projections, I am not expecting that system to be excessive in terms of rainfall, and not a strong wind event either. I will monitor trends for a more precise timing prediction and refine that soon.

TODAY: Variably cloudy morning-midday with passing showers possible. Partly to mostly sunny remainder of day with a slight chance of an additional shower RI & southeastern MA mid to late afternoon. Highs 67-74. Wind SW shifting to W and eventually NW 10-15 MPH, higher gusts of 20-30 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 42-49. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts during the evening.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 60-67. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts especially midday.

  1. Thanks TK !

I made the train, lol. Barely: 6

Could have hopped on many cars down the line, but the 2nd letter cost me 2-3 cars. I’ll still take it 🙂

  2. It’s funny when you get an upper 30s to near 40F morning, like yesterday and then, 24 hrs later at the same time, it’s 60F. In, and of itself, 60F is not noteworthy, except that after yesterday, it felt like deep summer out the door this morning.
