DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 13-17)
The weather pattern is active with a lot to sort out over the next 5 days. So, let’s sort it out! Today we find ourselves overcast and considerably cooler than yesterday as a frontal boundary dropped south southwestward and introduced a light northeasterly air flow and cooler maritime air mass overnight with areas of drizzle and a few showers. As this front becomes stationary, it’s a running board for a couple of disturbances moving through from northwest to southeast today and tonight, bringing opportunities for showers, particularly over northern MA and southern NH, and even the chance of a thunderstorm tonight. The frontal boundary will lift northeastward allowing warmer air to return to our region on Wednesday before a final low pressure area goes by to our north and pulls the boundary back through as a cold front in the afternoon. Wednesday will see some sunshine unlike today, but there is also the chance of a shower with the final disturbance / frontal passage. High pressure builds into the region Thursday with fair weather, but scoots quickly out that night, opening the door to the next quick-moving low pressure area to impact our region on Friday. I continue to lean toward a low pressure track to our north, a warm frontal passage with a slug of rain in the morning, and a cold frontal passage with showers during the afternoon. The timing may be quick enough so that some partial clearing arrives from the west before sunset. There is some guidance that depicts this as a slower process with showers into the evening and clearing beginning later, so in leaning quicker I do keep my mind open that the evolution may be slower. Regardless of timing, the air mass following that system will be the coldest so far this autumn, along with quite a bit of wind to start our weekend off on Saturday, along with a sun / cloud mix and the chance of a passing rain shower – however rain could be mixed with wet snow in higher elevations with any showers.
TODAY: Cloudy. Areas of drizzle. Rain shower chance is greatest north of I-90, favoring northern MA and southern NH. Highs 54-61. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH, a few higher gusts coastal areas and higher elevations.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Chance of a thunderstorm. Patchy fog. Lows 50-57. Wind SE up to 10 MPH shifting to to SW.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of a shower. Highs 67-74. Wind SW increasing to 5-15 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to NW by later in the day.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 40-47. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 57-64. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Rain arrives west of I-95 pre-dawn. Lows 42-49. Wind variable to SE up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Cloudy with rain and areas of fog morning. Breaking clouds at times but numerous showers for a portion of the afternoon. Highs 58-65. Wind SE up to 10 MPH early, then SW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
FRIDAY NIGHT: A shower possible southeastern MA and RI early, otherwise partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sun / cloud mix. A passing rain shower possible which can be mixed with wet snow higher elevations of central MA and southwestern NH. Highs 46-53. Wind NW 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-40 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 18-22)
High pressure builds toward the region with diminishing wind and plenty of sun but chilly air to finish the weekend on October 18, then the high slides off to the southeast with a milder west to southwest air flow and fair weather early next week. Next disturbance / frontal system brings a shower chance later in the period.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 23-27)
Brief shower chance about October 24 with a passing frontal system. A more substantial rain chance later in the period as low pressure approaches from the west, based on current medium range pattern indications.

Lot of moisture today in northern New England for a northern stream system. I wonder if any of it is enhanced at all from Rachel’s remnants?
Super 4s to you and JPD!
Thank you.
Nice 4
Thank you, TK. Terrific writeup.
53/52 with 53 being our overnight low and perhaps not too far off the high for the day.

The light (or lack of it) this morning gives a very different look to the foliage around here. It’s beautiful in its own way.
I got Wordle in 4 today.
Welcome to the 4 car. Beginning to get crowded. 🙂
